Walk Two Moons is a book written by Sharon Creech which tells the story of Salamanca Hiddle, a teenage girl who retraces the journey of her mother who left her. On her journey, Sal is able to relive her own story through her friend, Phoebe, whose mother also left. The book Walk Two Moons is representative of a heroine’s journey rather than a hero’s journey because Sal must leave her home to escape the challenges there, she finds a mentor along her journey which she eventually leaves, and she goes home to share what she has learned on her journey after she has discovered herself. In contrast to a Hero’s journey, a heroine leaves their home in order to escape the challenges or limitations put on them there.
Chapter Three: Symbolism: Why are the notes so important? I think that one of the most obvious symbols in this story is the notes Ms. Partridge sent to Phoebe and her family. This leads to the fact that this conjured up an external force, man vs. man, because Sal shows annoyance for Mary Lou’s two younger brothers doing crazy things which makes Sal frustrated. At the beginning they Sandy & Danny start off with a great relationship. They meet at the beach during summer break. Thinking they would never see each other again they went their separate ways. But Sandy ends up moving and goes to the same high school as Danny. They don’t know that the other is at the same school until Rizzo, one of the “pink ladies” introduces them to on another at the football pep rally. This is when all the conflict starts. Danny and Sandy are so excited to see each other, but all of sudden Danny changes his tone of voice, as well as attitude toward Sandy. Sandy is taken back by the way Danny is acting. On one day Sandy is at the local restaurant with a guy that happens to run track and Danny keeps watching her. When Sandy goes to the juke box she walks by Danny and does not acknowledge his existence. Danny then approaches Sandy and begins to give her a hard time about the guy that she is with. Sandy is very short with Danny and does not let on that she is upset.

The internal conflict is man versus himself because the narrator had to deal with depression and the treatment, which made it worse for her. The central conflict is man versus man because the narrator has to deal with the way her husband is treating her as a human and as a patient.
