Walgreens was founded in 1901 and provides convenient access to consumer goods and services, pharmacy, health and wellness services (Walgreens.com). Walgreens has a conglomerate diversification business strategy which means they expand not only in pharmacy services but unrelated businesses such as health care clinics and in some areas Walgreens hosts 800 E.V. chargers. This type of business strategy helps to minimize risks due to fluctuations in one industry (Bateman, Snell 85). This type of corporate strategy is working very well for the Walgreens organization. The ability to service customer’s needs in a variety of needs is significant to a successful business. The Mission of Walgreens, “To be the most trusted, convenient multichannel provider and advisor of innovative pharmacy, health and wellness solutions, and customer goods and services in communities across America. A destination where health and happiness come together to help people get well, stay well and live well,” (Walgreens.com). This mission statement can be seen throughout the organization. The front line clerks are exceptionally helpful when a customer needs to locate an item, as well as the pharmacy staff explaining the directions of prescriptions to the patients.
A goal that would be attainable for Walgreens to achieve in the next two years would be to implement more Take Care Clinics into more of the stores throughout the country. Providing a clinic located in the Walgreen’s facility, reaches out to persons to have their prescription needs filled at the attached pharmacy. Loblaw's Shoppers Drug Mart bid escalates grocery war as well as the new competitor Amazon and Walmart. The purpose of the competition is increasing market shares. Loblaw to boost its presence in metropolitan areas and reply to increasing need for smaller stores that provide a wide range of merchandise and are easily accessible in densely populated metropolitan locations. The almost 100-year-old Loblaw chain is great at offering one-stop shopping in large-format stores.

Since 1901, Walgreens has had a strong passion for customer service. The founder, Charles Walgreens, goal was to create a drugstore that was like no other. He said that for as many drugstores as he had worked at, he had never worked for one that had a focus for good customer service and low prices. Walgreens has grown by leaps and bounds since 1901 and is now recognized as the leader in the market with over 7000 stores. Charles Walgreen had an eye for good managers. He said he was able to pick people that he knew were smarter than him so to promote them and make them the heads of his drugstores. As a store manager, not only is it your job to run a store which includes ordering, customer care, and inventory control, but also it is your job to manage the staff. As a part of managing staff, it is their responsibility to hire, train and develop, and terminate if need be. While there are many jobs to choose from when it comes to HR and employee staffing, I choose this one because it is by far to me the most intense.

A survey found that the majority of respondents favored Wal-Mart over stores like Target and Kmart. Respondents claimed Wal-Mart offered lower prices, better variety and selection, and good quality. The needs of consumers is an important economic feature in all competitive environments. What attributes (price, variety, quality, etc.) prompt buyers to choose one retailer over another is very important in the competitive landscape.
Located in Cleveland, Ohio, the Cleveland Clinic is an academic hospital that offers many specialties of medicine to its patients. The Cleveland Clinic also operates affiliated facilities across the world in Florida, Canada, Nevada, and Abu Dhabi. Four physicians started Cleveland Clinic in 1921 as a collaboration to share expertise in various specialties, allowing patients to come to one location for care. They also placed a high emphasis on the academic culture for advancement and improved patient care. A fire at the Clinic in 1929 killed 123 people, including one of its founders. The main facility has more than 1,400 beds and includes hotels on campus for those who are visiting or staying with patients.
Albertson’s is planning many new strategies to try, and grab some of the market share that Wal-Mart has taken from them. The main way they plan to do this is though innovative technology. The reason for this is do to the fact that Albertson’s has vigorously tried to offer many perks to its customers, such as substantially better customer service, as well as convenience. Yet even though this may be true. Wal-Mart’s low prices have seemed to be far superior in generating revenue that has translated into enormous amounts of profits. So this is why now Albertson’s figures that if they cannot beat them on price then they will do it through information technology.

My current employer, Mayo Clinic, is a world renowned not-for-profit hospital that has been established for 150 years. Mayo Clinic is the first and biggest integrated not-for-profit medical group practice in the world and is a well-known brand name that is recognized world-wide. Working for an organization where the primary value is the needs of the patient come first, the organizations domain is held to a higher standard. The mission statement is to encourage hope and contribute to health and well-being by providing the best care to all patients through integrated clinical practice, education and research (Strategic statement of Mayo Clinic, 2012). The vision statement is that Mayo Clinic will offer an unparalleled experience as the most trusted partner for health care (Strategic statement of Mayo Clinic, 2012). In the medical field, innovations, research and technology motivate the business to perform and deliver care in a new standard. Mayo Clinic has a logo of three shields that are interlocked, presenting patient care, research and education.
This is supported by the CVS/Caremark program which offers ways of achieving pharmacy benefits and products as well as mail order services for prescriptions. The Caremark division facilitates payment arrangements for drug purchases along with other measures to monitor the cost of drugs for the customers.
