Is it possible that the Disney film WALL-E could have predict the future for technology and humanity? WALL-E is movie that takes places 700 years in the future. Humans left Earth because of the massive amounts of pollution, and they are on a spaceship called the Axiom. While the humans are aboard the ship they left robots (named Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-class) to cleanup Earth during this 700-year period all the cleanup robots are destroyed except for one. These humans are surrounded and controlled by the technology around them, and the only thing that can save them from their ‘enslavement’ of technology is WALL-E. Scientist are inventing many useful tools for helpful innovating reasons, but some other tools may be unnecessary. Scientist maybe inventing different tools, but the high demand for technology means a high demand for natural resources (for example, fossils fuels waters, and minerals) (Natural Resources). A high demand for natural resources can cause a shortage in supply and can lead to these resources vanishing completely. “Smithsonian” online magazine surveyed people and said that “in 10 years’ robots will be caregivers to people”. With the “future advances in technology people will use it more and that will make them depend on it like drug”, says Seteve Slate. (Slate, Addiction) One can only assume that in the future everyone will focus primarily on technology and this can result into isolation and no interaction with people. In comparison to what scientist predicts for the future and WALL-E have similarities like: robots as care givers, limiting natural resources, and potentially losing human interaction.
