Will Keith Kellogg was born on April 7, 1860, in Battle Creek Michigan. He was a shy and quiet yet hard-working young man, but he did not thrive in the classroom. He was described as “dim-witted” by his teachers, even though it really was his sight that was the problem- he couldn’t see the chalkboard during classes. Even though he wasn’t unintelligent, he ended up dropping out of school after sixth grade at age 14, a common occurrence at that time.. He then worked a variety of jobs, such as a stock boy and a traveling broom salesman. He worked without anything really outstanding until he was 46 years old. In 1894, while Kellogg was working as a clerk for his brother, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, at the Battle Creek Sanitarium, a world-renowned hospital practicing the customs of the Seventh-Day-Adventist Church that many wealthy people from around the world chose when they were ill, he had an idea. As a Seventh-Day Adventist, he was a vegetarian and he wanted to find a healthy vegetarian option for breakfast food that many people could enjoy. While he was boiling wheat to make into dough, he forgot about it and left it sit for a few hours. When he finally came back, the wheat had softened, but he rolled it anyway. When he rolled it, however, the wheat formed into flakes. He decided to bake the flakes so they would become crunchy, and modern breakfast cereal was born. W.K. and his brother decided to try making more cereal products, and their end result was baked flakes made from corn. It was healthy and tasty, and the patients at the Sanitarium loved their invention, so the Kelloggs decided to start selling their corn flakes commercially.
In 1898, Kellogg and his brother started the Sanitas Food Company. It was a mail-order business m...

Nutri-Grain cereal bars were created by the Kellogg Company and first introduced in the 1970’s Australia. They were later introduced to the United States and other countries. As more women began to work outside the home, the ritual of a family breakfast became obsolete as many individuals turned to quicker solutions for breakfast. The Nutri-Grain bar soon became popular as the on-the-go snack during the 1990’s. The cereal bar also comes in a variety of flavors that kids love, from blueberry to strawberry yogurt and has the texture a soft, homemade cookie. This television commercial centers on the theme of fostering a relationship between today’s kids and nature (see Appendix A). As the youth of today spends more time in the electronic world,
Andrew Carnegie and his philanthropy made him a hero because he helped more people than harm in the long run, by this I mean he helped other countries. He also sets a great example to everyone that helping others or someone is not something you need to wait to do when you are no longer living. If someone needed help and even a stable person had the choice to help but until they are no longer alive has little meaning. Perhaps it would be too late when the person isn’t around anymore. Its about what someone can do to help when they are around, it is about what a person can do in the time of need even if it is not much but a little of anything can go a long way. In (Doc C) there is a list of amounts of money that Carnegie has donated to various places which in total he has donated well over $271m but aside from that his corporation is giving out about $100m a year, most of it to education (Doc C)
A penny saved may be a penny earned, just as a penny spent may begin to better the world. Andrew Carnegie, a man known for his wealth, certainly knew the value of a dollar. His successful business ventures in the railroad industry, steel business, and in communications earned him his multimillion-dollar fortune. Much the opposite of greedy, Carnegie made sure he had what he needed to live a comfortable life, and put what remained of his fortune toward assistance for the general public and the betterment of their communities. He stressed the idea that generosity is superior to arrogance. Carnegie believes that for the wealthy to be generous to their community, rather than live an ostentatious lifestyle proves that they are truly rich in wealth and in heart. He also emphasized that money is most powerful in the hands of the earner, and not anyone else. In his retirement, Carnegie not only spent a great deal of time enriching his life by giving back; but also often wrote about business, money, and his stance on the importance of world peace. His essay “Wealth” presents what he believes are three common ways in which the wealthy typically distribute their money throughout their life and after death. Throughout his essay “Wealth”, Andrew Carnegie appeals to logos as he defines “rich” as having a great deal of wealth not only in materialistic terms, but also in leading an active philanthropic lifestyle. He solidifies this definition in his appeals to ethos and pathos with an emphasis on the rewards of philanthropy to the mind and body.
The founhder of the company, Godfrey Keebler, started with jus a small bakery in Philadelphia, PA in 1853. During the next two generations, local bakeries popped up around the country, including Strietmann, Hekman, Supreme and Bowman. With the introduction of cars and trucks (carrying the Keebler logo), bakery goods could be distributed beyond the neighborhood and regional distribution began.

Firstly, one aspect that is both Mexican and American is the cuisine. The original food for Mexico is very spicy and most of the time very colorful as well. Mexicans use spices, peppers, tomatoes, and cheese in many of the native dishes. They use an assortment of meat: pork, beef, lamb, and chicken. When Mexican restaurants spring up in the United States the food is toned down to appeal to Americans. The Mexican Americans use less spices to make the dishes milder rather than the hot, spicy native food. The food, still Mexican, takes on the likeness of American food. This is shown in the United States by all of the Mexican American restaurants such as Taco Bell. Therefore Mexicans have Americanized their food. “For Hispanics live on this side of the border, where Kraft manufactures Mexican-style Velveeta, and where Jack in the Box serves Fajita Pita.” (Rodriguez 131). Americans complement the Mexican style and the inverse.
“Many of the so called Mexican foods that we love like hard-shell tacos, burritos, and nachos are a Tex-Mex creation.” Anglo people were the first to encounter these delicious Mexican cultures and cuisines, but Tex-Mex did not appear until the 1940s, but in the 1970s everyone mostly knew about Tex-Mex foods because “as more people settled in Texas or wrote for cook books (Diana Kennedy) Mexican food grew and grew. People tried to make these Mexican cuisines by using Tex-Mex foods which are considered to be: beef, yellow cheese (cheddar), wheat flour, black beans, canned vegetables, and cumin which are not common in Mexican foods. Beef and cumin were used in a lot of Tex-Mex creations. Like “beef was the meat choice
The deep connection between the heritage and culture of a place and its food is based on basically “you are what you eat”. Mexican cuisine stems from a long and varied history and throws a lot of light on some of the turbulent times this culture has had to face.
Mexican cuisine is a fusion of indigenous Mesoamerican cooking with European, principally SpanisH elements. The basic predominant native foods such as corn, beans and chili peppers, but the Europeans introduced a large number of different foods, such as beef, pork, chicken, goat and sheep, farm products especially cheese and various herbs and lots of spices. Mexican cuisine is as complex as any of the great cuisines in the world, such as China, France, Italy and Turkey. It is crea...
Food Inc. directed by Robert Kenner gives viewers an eye opening experience to the politics of the industrial food manufacturing and processing system. Kenner is an award winning documentary director and producer since the 1970’s. He has perfected his craft in Food Inc. by allowing the viewer to better understand where processed food comes from and the corporations that own it all. The film takes a look into three of the most popular goods of corn, beef and pork. There becomes a better understanding of the corn industry and how almost all processed food can be traced back to the genetic modification of corn. Beef can be tied into this scenario with the newer practice of feeding cattle corn. The film takes some interest in explaining how corn
Since I was a little girl, my mother always made it clear that a husband was unobtainable if a woman could not properly tend to his needs. I learned how to cook, how to clean, how to do laundry, and I even learned how to take care of my younger siblings all because, according to my mother, these responsibilities were a woman’s duty; it was her job. For centuries, this has been the mindset of every woman, which has been passed down from generation to generation. A stereotype that has influenced a culture and defined a human being. In this 1930’s Kellogg’s PEP Cereal advertisement we witness yet another stereotype defining women into this sexist housewife persona. Through the use of clothing and appearance, text and audience the ad conveys a
Throughout the history of the human race there have been a great number of crops that were discovered, planted, and over time domesticated. Wheat in the Middle East, rice in Asia, and rye in Eastern Europe are all some of today’s staple crops that feed millions every day. Crops like these make up over 50% of the world’s total food supply. However, the third most eaten crop in the world is maize, or corn, which provides 21% of human nutrition. Today maize feeds millions across the world, but its history is different from the others.
