Family, friends, and giving thanks- this is what comes to mind when I think about Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a time for feeling gratitude for everyone and everything one is thankful for. Families and friends come together to celebrate everything that they are thankful for. While being thankful is a huge part of Thanksgiving, it is not a proper holiday without the immense amount of food. I am thankful for many things including my family, my friends, and food.
To begin with, I am thankful for having a family that I can depend on. My family is extremely important to me because they help me whenever I need assistance. Furthermore, having a family means being able to take less stress as one can rely upon their family to help them. Also, I can count on my family to build up my courage anytime I need encouragement. In addition, my parents celebrate all of my accomplishments. This allows me to try harder in order to make my parents proud. Also, my parents have sacrificed many times for my brother and I which is why I strive to do my best at all times. My family is my greatest strength and one of the reasons I try to do my best at everything I attempt to do.

My friends are the only people that I can talk to without getting in trouble for saying something. They understand me and can sense any problem I might be going through. Also, anytime anyone is feeling down, they can make them feel better simply by being themselves. Furthermore, my friends are the weirdest people I know. Somehow, we end up debating over whether or not love lasts and other random topics. These random instances are what I look forward to each day when coming to school (other than English class, of course). My friends are one of the most important people in my life and I am glad that I found
When the great holiday of Thanksgiving comes to mind, most people think of becoming total gluttons and gorging themselves with a seemingly unending amount of food. Others might think of the time spent with family and friends. The whole basis of the holiday is family togetherness, fellowship, and thankfulness for blessings received during the previous year.
Food is an important part of Thanksgiving. One similarity I have with people is that we eat green beans and mashed potatoes. Next, I share having corn and stuffing with a little bit of peers. Lastly, I share having cranberry sauce and mac and cheese with a couple of my classmates.
The table can be filled with many different types of foods, and it differs from family to family. However, there are some foods that are seen at almost every Thanksgiving table. First off, the turkey, it is the most important part of the celebration for most families in the United States. There are multiple reasons to why the turkey has become such a big part of Thanksgiving. For example, a colonist named William Bradford wrote in his journals that colonists hunted wild turkeys during autumn of 1621, which is named as the first Thanksgiving. Another reason to why the turkey is an important part of the holiday is because the birds are big and can feed a lot of people compared to other birds such as chickens (Trex, 2008). Although the turkey is the most important food on the table for most families, it is common for most families to also serve some sort of sweet potatoes, for example, a sweet potato casserole with marshmallows. As Thanksgiving is a feast holiday a dessert is usually also served, one of the most common desserts on Thanksgiving is a pumpkin pie. The pumpkin has been around for hundreds of years, and always been a part of thanksgiving, however, it is more likely that the pumpkin was served after being baked or stewed rather than a pie on the first years when Thanksgiving were celebrated (Trex, 2008). As it is a feast holiday the table has many more types of foods, but it varies from family to family what is put onto the table, however, the turkey, sweet potatoes, and the pumpkin pie is almost always found at every Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is undoubtedly a holiday to celebrate family. It also celebrates many other things, as the name suggests. Thanksgiving is a holiday to give thanks for the things that a person has rather than to wish for more things. Accomplishments and shiny cars are not part of the essence of Thanksgiving, as these do not have the inherent humbleness expected of the holiday. This air of humility and frugality, harkening back to the days of the pilgrims and Native Americans, is probably what lead Ellen Goodman to describe the holiday as a suppressing of individualism. However, the rift between individuality and family that Goodman describes in Thanksgiving is not as deep as she makes it seem, and Thanksgiving Day is hardly the only day of the
A big part of Thanksgiving is a Thanksgiving feast. The feast usually consists of potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, peas, gravy, stuffing, salads, buns and lots of other great food. The main part of the feast is usually the turkey. Other families might have ham, roast beef, duck or chicken. The dessert that is most likely to follow the feast is pumpkin pie. Other people may choose different desserts and food depending on their customs and beliefs for which they choose to give thanks. Let’s not forget the biggest and most important reason for this holiday – giving THANKS! People usually give thanks for everything they have. Their jobs, health, families or just being alive are just a few of the things that people give thanks for.
Thanksgiving is a very important holiday in present-day American culture. People all throughout America take extra care to make this day a memorable and happy celebration. This tradition has been in the American lifestyle since 1621 when it first started. Even though this tradition has been altered and changed the significance and meaning remains the same. The first Thanksgiving was an important landmark and made a huge imprint in the American culture today.
In some traditions and cultures, the items featured may also be tamales, apple cider, oyster stuffing, and rice.6 These entrees listed are examples of the foods we consume during this century’s Thanksgiving holiday. Thanksgiving is a national holiday that we celebrate on the fourth Thursday of November each year. This celebration has been altered over many generations, and influenced through many people. Sara Josepha Hale for example, was an essential person who made a huge impact on this feast. She had the idea of creating meals such as a large turkey, for families to gather around the dinner table, and share a course while in the midst of it, being thankful for everything they have. Overall, Thanksgiving has been substantially transformed throughout the years and is now an official recognized holiday we celebrate each
What fun things do you do for Thanksgiving? Do you have any exciting activities that your family does? Thanksgiving is all about getting together with your family and saying what you are thankful for. Thanksgiving gives people the chance to get to know your family better. I think Thanksgiving is not only for people that believe in God, but for people that like to get together with families in general.
During this time I get to be with my family and do so many fun things together. I am grateful for this time with them because some people don’t have the gift to have a family or spend time with them. Some day in the future my parents and siblings won’t be around, so I have to spend as much time as I can with them. I have to use the time I have with them for the rest of my life. I am thankful for family time because I get to have fun and laugh with the best people in the world. Some things that we do together are going to concerts, watching movies, and doing activities together. I am so glad they are around because I don’t know who I would be today without them. Spending quality time with family is super important in life because you are around people who make you happy. Family is important because you have a shoulder to lean on and you have people who will look after
Thanksgiving is one of America’s most precious holidays and traditions. Even though there are a couple of factors in the way we perceive the day, it can mean different thing to many different people. The Arabic definition for the word thanksgiving is "shukr." There are two main religious thanksgiving days in the religion of Islam: one is Ramadan and one following the pilgrimage rites in Mecca. These days include prayers, thanksgiving means, and generous charities to the poor. Throughout my life living in America thanksgiving was a huge part of my life, but when I moved to Syria we did not really celebrate it anymore. It has been five whole years that I did not celebrate thanksgiving. Luckily, Montclair State University changed that for me.
Thanksgiving celebration started with the landing of the Pilgrims in America in the year in 1621 after their first harvest. The Pilgrims also gave thanks to God for helping them through the struggles in the adaptation to the new environment and meeting the Native Americans who helped the Pilgrims with strategies for survival. Thanksgiving is one of the brightest times in America with a big feast, reunion of families, and most importantly, thanking others for their acts of altruism. In the painting of Norman Rockwell’s Freedom from Want, the family members are gathered around with big smiles. The title summons up the purpose of Thanksgiving, which is freeing oneself from desires by taking time to look around one’s surroundings. There are millions of reasons to give thanks each day, small or big. Giving back to others in need is one of the ways to increase “voluntary
"I love Thanksgiving because it's a holiday that is centered around food and family, two things that are utmost importance to me." Marcus Samuelsson made this known and admittedly, Thanksgiving is an amazing holiday. The turkey, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, and pumpkin pie are just a few key staples to a classic Thanksgiving meal. Thanksgiving is clearly the holiday to celebrate if food is the objective. Although Christmas dinner may fall below the famous turkey and potatoes, it a great way to spend time with your family in more than one way for more than just one day. Food, however, is not just the main objective of a holiday. Overall, Christmas is more important to celebrate and is more exciting to celebrate than Thanksgiving.
Friendships are one of the most important things you can get out of life. It’s something that everyone has to have because without it we would all go insane. Just think if no one talked to each other and we never made friends, this world would be a ticking time bomb. Studies say human need friendships and love to survive. So friendship is a big part of your life.
In the end, my family as a whole is the reason that I am the person that I am today. It’s the way that different personalities all come together as one, the way my family handles hard situations, and the closeness I have with them that has really impact me and my life. I know that I would not be as cheerful, hardworking, or positive without seeing all these qualities around me for a majority of my life. It’s astonishing how just 6 people can change you for the better. I know I would be in a very different place in my life if it wasn’t for my family. Family is different for everyone, and mine is truly the best people for me.
I don’t know where I’d be without my family. We’ve been through thick, and thin. I’m very glad that I have them for moral support, and can depend on them for advice. They’ve taught me almost everything I know about life, whether it’d be household chores, manners, morals, cooking, etc. I’m pleased to have a very caring family that would do anything for me. I feel safe and secure with them. They provide me with the basic necessities such as food, water, and a roof over my head. I would consider all of the things they provide me with as luxuries, because not everyone has a comfortable place to reside in, or food to eat. If I didn’t have these basic necessities, then it would be another thing I would have to stress about in life. I like to joke around with them a lot, and it brings a smile to my face when I see their reaction. Having a loving, and supportive family is what makes me
