Volunteering is the act of devoting one’s time and resources to help others. For some volunteering is a way to pass the time, while for others it is a major part of their lives. Either way, a person who volunteers has a will to improve the lives of others, and it has a positive impact on the surrounding community. Undoubtedly volunteering has many favorable results, but there are a few that stand apart and certainly make volunteering a rewarding experience. It provides resources to the disadvantaged, allows academic opportunities to the volunteer, and provides support systems to those who need it. For the less fortunate, many do not have strong relationships with their family or community and having people to support them while they try to rehabilitate themselves is critical. Through non-profit establishments Shelter and Assistance in Family Emergencies (S.A.F.E), people are able to have others encourage and aid them through difficult times of need. S.A.F.E is a domestic violence organization that provides housing, counseling, and support to the victims of domestic violence. It provides women and children with a safe haven to escape situations where they are experiencing domestic abuse. This organization is in an unknown location to prevent the violent offender from finding their victim(s). Through this organization, victims have the opportunity to learn valuable job skills, such as resume writing, dressing for the role, and learning how to execute important job interviews (S.A.F.E., Inc.
