Introduction
Volunteering is something many do to give back to their community. Being a volunteer is an altruistic way to be involved in helping others. I have volunteered in high school, but since college have fallen out of doing so. I have wanted to get back into being a volunteer, but just haven’t found time with being both employed full-time and a full-time student. For this paper, we had to volunteer at a healthcare facility and I was happy to have to get myself out there and start volunteering again. Time constraints made it difficult, but I found time at least once a week to volunteer and I’m glad I did. For this paper, I would like to give an overview of what I learned and observed while volunteering. Then, I will be applying an analysis of course material to what I observed.

I observed this social support from the families of the patients. The families offered emotional social support and they did so within a relationship context, with physical affection and expressing concern. It surprised how many of the families actually waited in the waiting room, which was fairly small, for hours for their loved ones to be done with their procedures. Families could leave contact information and leave and be contacted when their loved one was done, but many chose to simply wait for them. I saw relationship support expressed through the families just being together and waiting on their loved ones. Physical affection by the way the communicated with each other before the patient went back to their bed, many were hugging and kissing, etc. Also, many families who were waiting expressed concern by inquiring on the status of their loved ones. I thought it was great how many of these families chose to stay and wait versus just leave and be contacted, I think it goes to show how deep and meaningful family is and how strong a bond families can
The lunch bell rung at full volume as the main doors flung open. I predicted that a herd of people will rush in like the water from a spill gate. But instead every person was a line; in fact it was a neat single filed line. Another thing I was astonished to see was to the fact that every single person I served to was superbly well mannered. It was the magical word of thank-you which left great remarks in my life and made my volunteering experience an enjoyable one. After the shift, I have come to realize that everything my family and friends have said about impoverished people was nothing but just a stereotype. In addition, I have self-discovered that volunteering is what I want to do on my spare time. The joy from making new friends, appreciated and making a difference in society was too meaningful to put in words. From then on, volunteering had become one of my most highly valued priorities. Whenever I have time to spare, I will go
Growing up, my parents and other influential figures around me modelled the importance of community service through their continual volunteer work and dedication to improving the world around them. Whether it be participation in a well-attended project or persistent contribution to a helpful organization, those aforementioned individuals were formative in guiding me towards a path filled with opportunities for having an impact on my community.
volunteering is a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task. In this report i will talk about the different types of volunteering in the:
Volunteering is productive. It also gives a satisfying feeling, knowing that one is helping people in need. Last year, in the process of getting confirmed in the Catholic Church, this writer preformed charity work such as serving food to homeless people at the Dorothy Day House. At first it seemed that doing charity work would be boring, but it was actually fun, helped people, and made a difference in their lives.
People’s lives are changed every day by their actions and experiences. This past summer, I participated in a community service project, an experience that opened my eyes in many ways. I was a volunteer at the County Memorial Hospital. In my time as a volunteer at the hospital, I was able to meet patients and staff members from all over the world and learn about their life experiences. Listening to all of their stories has made me truly appreciate everything which I have.
It was the summer of 2013 when I was living with my grandparents and they told me about volunteering at the church. I didn’t know what they were talking about, so I took the initiative to go find out for myself that following Sunday. I was in the balcony on Sunday, when I heard the announcements saying we can volunteer for their hope food pantry. I was excited because it was going to be a chance where I can help other and get community service hours. Volunteering I began to think positive thoughts and telling myself “ I am doing a good deed”.
Kim, in the United States, grades are not the only factor in evaluating school applicants and job candidates. From Rhodes Scholar selections to college applications, excellence in other areas such as leadership, volunteer activities, sports and arts is equally important (p82-90). In American schools, students are encouraged to do volunteer work. So much so that many schools have guidelines for how much time students are expected to spend serving in the community. Children learn the value of giving from an early age. Volunteer activities is one way Americans feel a part of things and share the goal of serving and contributing to build their communities. From neighborhood watch programs to environmental issues, Americans do not wait for the government to initiate action: they take action to bring about the changes they desire. Therefore, Americans view volunteer work as a way to teach children and young adults values such as cooperation and teamwork, dedication and work ethics, equality and social justice, leadership, generosity and compassion for

I saw in Egypt a city full of dirt and debris cleaning itself up; a city whose citizens became full of pride to say that they are from Alexandria and a city that is changing. Through volunteerism change is happening around the world, from the Middle East and Eastern Europe to Massachusetts. Through volunteerism a community is strengthening and pride is growing. That is the true impact of volunteerism. I started volunteering nine years ago and I was doing so without considering its impact and accepting what people told me. It wasn’t until five months ago that I got to witness and realize the impact of volunteering. It took me eight years and seven months to discover that the impact of volunteerism is more than what I was told. It took me eight years and seven months to understand that volunteerism impacts
Volunteerism creates a stronger community in several ways. Generally, volunteering creates a better life in citizens and instills happiness. Specifically, in a survey of 101 randomly selected districts in the UK including districts such as; Bristol,
Volunteering enables a person to develop new skills that he or she would otherwise not have been able to develop. Unlike most other organizations, a charitable organization is happy to give positions to passionate, though inexperienced, individuals who desire to help others and benefit the community. Therefore, an individual with little experience in a field of work can gain meaningful skills that he or she can use in the future. For example, while I volunteered at the hospital this summer, I learned about the daily work lives and professional duties of doctors and nurses. Had I not volunteered, I would not have learned about these things. I was always interested in the medical field, but volunteering at the hospital let me explore my interests and en...
Participant observation is conducted throughout anthropology and sociology as a fundamental research method. Moreover, participant observation is rendered through a researcher’s efforts to delve into social concepts and diverse cultures in an interpersonal and comprehensive manner (Kawulich, 2005). Being examined, is an example of participant observation in concurrence with an example of methodology, theoretical perspective and epistemology. The example of participant observation will be addressed alongside a discussion on findings. Further, an evaluation plus recommendations will be made for future research observations.

Personal Final Individual Reflection Raina Sacro California State University, Stanislaus Abstract This paper will talk about Saint Mary’s Dining Room, an organization located in Stockton, CA that helps the needy with programs and services such as the dining room. It will go in detail about my initial expectations for volunteering here versus what really happened while I volunteered here for this organization. I will compare Saint Mary’s Dining Room to Saint Vincent de Paul Alameda County, an organization located in Oakland, CA, that specializes on helping the needy. There I will talk about how my time volunteering at the organization based in Oakland influenced my thinking on how my volunteer experience would be at Saint Mary’s.
Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities. Just a small act can make a huge difference in someone’s life. The future is dependent on the individual person and the people they surround themselves with. Just a few hours will change both the volunteer’s life and the one that is in need.
