Throwing a ball over the net is not all there is to volleyball. It might seem like an easy physical activity, but it has its complications like any other sport. The beginnings of volleyball go down in history. For being one of the youngest and widely known sports in the world it still thrives today. It all started with the creation of the sport, what it came to be, and how it grew into what it is today. As always, the inventor of the sport comes first.
William G. Morgan created volleyball in the Holyoke, Massachusetts’s gymnasium in 1895 (Jenson 8). He wanted to combine some skills of baseball, basketball, handball, and tennis into a whole different sport (History). He believed that taking aspects of multiple sports and putting them into one, would have a good affect in the sport’s world. In addition, Morgan originally gave the sport the name of “Mintonette” after badminton (history-of-volleyball). Although; he later realized that in the game, players volley the ball back and forth, so he created the name “Volleyball.” The ball used in volleyball is the same name as the sport and the first special designed ball was created in 1900. Furthermore, because basketball had already been invented he chose to create a less violent and intense game for older students. Even though volleyball isn’t a fierce game, a lot of your energy is used. In fact, average volleyball players jump about 300 times in a match. Within volleyball, contact is not permitted between teams, because players are divided by a net anyways. Together with playing the game, there are rules and pointers that need to be followed.
As well as any other sport, volleyball has its basic rules and way to play. Volleyball is played by two teams of six players on a court divided by...

...held in 1949 and 1952 for woman. Moreover, in most high schools around the world, there is most likely to be a girl’s volleyball team than a boy’s. In addition, volleyball is the second most played and popular sport in the world. An interesting factoid is that the sport was 100 years old in 1995 (history-of-volleyball)!
In final consideration, I believe that volleyball is a phenomenal sport. It creates team work, skills, and the confidence to win the game! It has a long history, but it has created something great today. Surely, volleyball will just get better and better as the years go by. The inventor, its basic rules, a different type, and the growth of the sport have all contributed to its beginnings. A volleyball quote says, “Either it is in your heart, or in your face.” So if I were you, I would head out to the court, and enjoy a game of this fascinating sport!
I have played volleyball for 5 years. I have played school volleyball for five years, and club volleyball for four. Throughout my years of playing, I have recognized a significant difference between club volleyball and school volleyball. I have played for two clubs in my four years of playing club. The first two years, I played for a club named Platform Elite. The last two years, I have played for Iowa Select, and this year I am playing my club season with Infinity X. Personally, I prefer club volleyball over school volleyball. Club volleyball and school volleyball can be compared in three different categories: price, competition, and “politics” within the sport and its’ players.
In 1891 James Naismith created the game of basketball, this game started off as a game only man played. James Naismith was a Canadian P. E teacher and invented the game for his students during the winter. The game of basketball started in Massachusetts where Naismith invented the game and has now spread throughout the world. Not only did the sport start to pave its way, but so did women’s basketball. As time went on women’s basketball took off and became more popular with changes along the way.
Volleyball is a great sport, it is very fun!! The attire for volleyball is a jersey, shorts, knee pads and special volleyball shoes. Some equipment that you need to play volleyball with, first of all you need a net, ball, 6 players on a court, court, referee,
Volleyball represents my most meaningful commitment not just because I have invested so much into it, but also because it it’s a passion of mine and has been a part of my life since elementary school. The impact my coaches and teammates have had on my life has helped make me the confident and determined individual I am today. Volleyball also takes up a lot of time and there are many sacrifices that come with the sport and playing on a team. To keep up my skills, I have had to give up a lot of my free time and parts of my summer. Balancing school with practices was also a challenge, but participating in one of my passions made it worthwhile. I have persevered through difficult times and learned new lessons along the way, so there is nothing that could make this sport less meaningful to me. (148)
Not everyone would agree that volleyball is America’s favorite pastime, but I think they're in denial. I spend virtually all my time practicing, playing, or watching volleyball, so that counts for something, right? The fast pace keeps spectators captivated in the simple yet overly complex game. Okay, it's not true that volleyball is “overly complex”
I looked in their faces and knew mine mirrored theirs. I didn’t want it to, but it did. Just ten minutes ago, we all were so jubilant. We were so sure we were going to win. We had all wanted it for so long, but we finally felt is as our destiny just a few moments ago. But as our opponent threw the ball in the air, I knew she was just about to serve another ace. However, when the ball landed three feet in front of our best passer, something snapped inside of me.
Basketball, the sport that has been around for decades. An abundant amount of people play the sport. In my opinion, it’s one of the finest sports invented. The sport itself is mentally and physically challenging. I will be explaining how to play the sport, the history of basketball, and why you should play basketball.
Basketball originated in 1891 when future Presbyterian minister named James Naismith (1861-1939) was assigned to teach a P.E. class at Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) training school in Springfield, Massachusetts. The class had been noted for being disorderly, and Naismith was told to invent a new game to keep the young men occupied. Since it was winter and very cold outside, the game had to be played indoors was desirable. Naismith had a flashback to his childhood in Canada, where he and his friends had played "duck on a rock,”. The game involved trying to knock a large rock off a boulder by throwing smaller rocks at it. He also recalled watching rugby players toss a ball into a box in a gym. He had the idea to nail up boxes and the players would attempt to throw a ball. When he couldn't find boxes he used peach baskets. According to Alexander Wolff, in his book 100 Years of Hoops, Naismith drew up the rules for the new game in "about an hour." Most of them still apply in some form of todays. Basketball was a simple game that could be played indoors during winter. Naismith spread the rules freely, and there was a need for Naismith's legacy included the first great college basketball coach, Forrest "Phog" Allen (1885-1974), who played for Naismith at the University of Kansas and went on to win 771 games as a coa...

Volleyball is a very popular sport around the world. It is especially popular in the U.S., which is where is originated (NCVA). It was created just two years after the game basketball was invented (Hartwell). To create this game, Morgan mixed different things from the sports Tennis, Handball, Baseball, and Basketball (NCVA). “Morgan used the bladder of a basketball to provide a lighter ball with a more lively bounce,” (Hartwell).
Basketball a sport that is played throughout the whole world. When playing this sport all you need is a ball and basket. Though the basket does have to be a certain height kids play it in their classroom or outside. What I mean by this is that kids and even adults in the office treat a trash can as a basket and whatever their trash is as a ball. I got interested in this sport when I was in middle school in eighth grade moving on to high school. I was never interested in basketball until I played it with a group of kids who today are still my friends.
I had mixed feelings towards volleyball for a majority of the season. Earlier in the year I was chosen to be a floater meaning that I would play on both the
Although many sports are not considered American-made, basketball is one of the few that began in America. In fact it is the only major sport that can be considered American-made (Encyclopedia.com, Basketball). The inventor of basketball was Dr. James Naismith, who created the sport in 1891(History.com Staff, NBA is Born). This was all the way back when there were only forty-four states(nbahoopsonline.com, NBA History). He made the sport in Springfield, Massachusetts(History.com Staff, NBA is Born). Naismith invented this sport because he was P.E. teacher seeking a sport with limited physical contact, but it contained running, jumping, shooting, and hand-eye coordination(Encyclopedia.com, Basketball). The game first used peach baskets and a soccer like ball(History.com Staff,
It all began as a lawn game similar to the croquet played sometime during the 15th century in Northern Europe and probably in France and has evolved from that point into present day's style of billiard/pool table and rules. Playing the game moved indoors to a wooden table with green cloth to simulate grass, and a simple border was placed around the edges. The balls were shoved, rather than struck, with wooden sticks called "maces." The term "billiard" is derived from the French language, either from the word "billiart", one of the wooden sticks, or "bille", a ball” (Pool Tables). The story of how billiards came to be has unique qualities such as the way the term “billiards” came to be.
It seems strange that a simple sport can do so much to a person, but it is not just a simple sport. To an outsider it is just volleyball, but to a player it is love, commitment, and family. It is a way to connect with people who become people in your life that are unforgettable. I have spent the past five years playing this sport with many different girls and I watched them as they grew up and went on to college and other things in life, and now I am that girl. I am now a senior in high school playing volleyball for the last year and I could not imagine what my life would be like if I had never tried this
