Vitiligo is a skin disease in which there is a loss of pigment (color) from areas of skin, ending in abnormal patches that feel like normal skin. Vitiligo affects 0.5-1% of people worldwide. That means about two million people are affected by this disease in this country alone. Compared to how many people live on this earth , the number isn’t that large. It’s pretty rare to have this disease. One of the two million people that was affected by this disease was a music icon, the king of pop, Michael Jackson. Throughout his life, Michael’s appearance transformed, especially the color of his skin. The color of his skin became substantially lighter and in such little time. People were thinking the worst. While many believed that Michael Jackson’s changing complexion was due to a cosmetic choice, in actuality, his change was due to the skin disease, vitiligo. Vitiligo was and still is a real disease that many people all over the country and world have. Melanin, the pigment that figures out the color of skin, hair, and eyes, is made in cells called melanocytes. If these cells die or cannot produce melanin, the skin gets lighter or can become completely white. The patches can vary in size and places where it can be located on your body. There are many stages of vitiligo. Michael has gone through all of these stages. He did his best to cover it, which made people criticize him even more and say things like he bleached his skin, when what really happened was that he was coping with a disease as best as he could.
Vitiligo has been around for many, many years. “ Vitiligo has been described in medical literature for hundreds of years. The origination is unknown”, said Dr. Shane Morgan, a dermatologist from Lincoln, Rhode Island. Michael fir...

In the article Skin Deep written by Nina Jablonski and George Chaplin, they discuss and look deeper into the diverse differences in skin color. Our skin color has developed over the years to be dark enough to prevent the damaging sunlight that has been harming our skin and the nutrient folate that it carries. At the same time out skin is light enough to receive vitamin D.
The night of May 16, 1983, almost 50 million people watched one of the most spectacular performance on television (Scott 1). Jackson won 40 Billboard music awards (Scott 1). His lyrics are powerful he also talks about social causes, human race, and relationships. He inspired millions of people with the music he wrote. Since I was a little girl I listened to his music couple of my favorite songs are “Bad”, “Dirty Diana”, Make that Change”, “You are not alone”, “Billie Jean” “Smooth Criminal”. These songs where inspiring to me growing up to this day I listen to him. My siblings and me loved his movie called “The Moonwalker,” It’s about his music career when he was five years old till he went solo as an artist at the age of thirteen. I would watch his movie repeatedly. My sisters and me would try to follow his dance moves but we were always unsuccessful it was a great memory growing up. I loved the part when he turns himself into a bunny as a little girl I thought that was awesome. I would think I had magic And, I remember telling my mom “I wanted to be like Michael Jackson because he has powers” my mother would just laugh. One of his quotes from his lyrics that is powerful to me is “If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself, then make that change,” this
Michael Jackson went through numerous operations of plastic surgery to fix his nose and insert a dimple into his chin. In this time period, he was diagnosed with having a rare skin pigment disease called Vitiligo which turned his skin brighter. The media claimed that he bleached his skin color, also claimed that he was sleeping in an oxygen chamber. The scrutiny and backlash he received from the media steered farther away from the public eye. In 1993, he was falsely accused of molesting a 13-year-old boy in which he settled the case out of court. This caused Jackson to spiral into an addiction to painkillers, which would be ultimate cause of his death in 2009. In 2005, he had another child molestation case in which he was acquitted out all
Xeroderma Pigmentosum was discovered by Hebra and Kaposi in 1874. Kaposi coined the term Xeroderma Pigmentosum eight years later, using the name to describe the symptom of dry, pigmented skin. Further research began after this, leading to the discovery that the disease was caused by a generic mutation instead of a virus or bacteria.
I struggle to understand how his transformation from black to white could have been so easy and flawless. How by simply dyeing his skin, taking medication, and shaving his head he was perfectly transformed. I find it hard to believe that no one would notice his disti...
From a boy with no father, to a civil rights activist, Jesse Louis Jackson fought for what he believed in and never gave up. Jackson was born in Greenville, South Carolina on October 8, 1941 to Noah Robinson, a cotton grader, and Helen Burns, a hairdresser. Jesse’s birth name is Jesse Louis Burns. On December 31, 1962, he was married to Jacqueline Lavinia (Brown) Jackson. Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958. He was one of ten children growing up. Michael and his siblings grew up in a very strict home. He had many conflicts with his father, who was physically and emotionally abusive. Michael’s music career began with the formation of The Jackson 5 in 1963, when he joined his brothers, Jackie, Tito, Marlon, and Jermaine in their already booming musical group. This was the start of Michael’s singing career. He was only five years old at this time, and went solo in 1971 at the young age of thirteen (Internet Movie Database).
This meant that over time, humans lost most of their hair on their bodies, leaving their skin exposed. Sweat glands were going to help the body cool down, but they couldn’t protect the skin from harmful UV rays. This is where melanin works its magic, and it’s the reason for the diversity in skin color today. Melanin helps reduce the absorption of wavelengths into the skin (Chaplin, Jablonski, 59).... ...

Albinism is a genetic condition present at birth, characterized by a small amount of melanin pigment in the skin, hair and eye. Introduction: Perhaps no one has received this title in history “the king of pop”, now a days many artist’s have arisen and have performed but not as the king of pop known worldwide and in history, has dominated the world of pop as Michael Jackson.
In conclusion, melanin production has played a considerably important role in human evolution. Not only does it influence color pigmentation through its protective role of defending against harmful UV rays, but also determines detrimental features such as eye-sight and hearing. Furthermore, melanin production and its evolutionary adaptions mark an important presence upon our biological systems to this day. Therefore, in the process of furthering human evolution, melanin production has played an enormous role in human evolution by selecting for several features that allow for particular adaptions according to the human's geographical location and environment.
Outlier. An outlier is someone who is not considered to be a normal person within society. They have qualities that most people do not obtain. They are the most successful of individuals and many aspire to be them. Michael Jackson is the epitome of what I believe is a true outlier. In his best-selling novel, Malcolm Gladwell stated that we tend to spend more time looking at individuals success rather than looking at things that ultimately contributed to that success, such as their family, birthplace, and even birth date.
Michael Jackson and His Impact on Pop Music Introduction: There have always been pioneers in every field one can think of, no matter what. These people had a great mentality and also a taste for innovation and creativity, so they happened to have a great influence on what they were doing. This is why now they are called ‘pioneers’. Music-wise, no one can ignore the impact of Michael Jackson’s music on the mainstream music in totality and particularly on the pop culture. He started as one of the singers of a boy band and ended up becoming the greatest entertainer of all time (according to Guinness records).
Michael Jackson is one of my favorite singers. He is very famous, so most of all people in the world know him, at least his name. I began to listen to his songs because I was recommended them by my friend, and I was really attracted by them. I have two reasons why I like him.
