The first writing piece i choose from my portfolio was visual analysis. The visual analysis personal was one of the hardest paper I had to write for this semester. It was so challenging because I could not follow the process which I was adjusted to writing to which is, collecting data about a subject and writing about the research I found . With the Visual analysis we were instructed to choose a piece of public visual rhetoric and analysis it using rhetorical terms such as pathos, logos, and ethos. I needed to express my freshly learned rhetoric terms towards a image, than transform what i was seeing into an 4-6 page essay. After revising my paper I was able to see my growth as a writer. It was actually amazing it see the two papers side by side. At first I was …show more content…
Unfortunately the trophy was not descriptive enough for a complete essay. Once I had my meeting with Professor Young she guided me in another direction. The direction see guided me into was the centenary wrestling room. I began to restart my essay this time i was writing about the wrestling room here at Centenary. By writing about the Centenary wrestling room I was able to use all my senses which lead to more Rhetoric. I was able to focus on the physical traits as well as the logos of the room and being apart of the room. One example of the physical traits, is the navy blue walls was and the inspiring writing one those walls. An example of the logos,I was able to express the sweat and blood i saw from my teammates and I, and the awful smells that perfume of the room. One of my favorite parts of the paper was writing about the feeling of achievement and amazement of many recruits feel walking into the wrestling room for the first time. Also I was able to express my personal feeling when i was introduced to the room the first time. Professor Young left
The first media text I chose to create for my portfolio is a blog post because there is no specific instruction to follow as I’m am able to write in my own personal opinion. Writing a blog post allows me to be more creative with my ideas to add in my response. Also I’ve wrote tons of blog post over the course of this semester, so I’ve learned what to have in my post making
Some of the papers that I wrote throughout the course were mostly things that I felt very close to and loved. Whether it'd be sports, family, or friends, I always had something to write about. For how often I chose these topics, I always learned something from them too. Like with the Red Cross, over 95% of the workers there are volunteers that want to help out those in need after natural disasters.
Every kid on the football field has a trophy. Even the kids who are on the losing team. Kids’ and parents’ faces are bright with smiles, and laughter echoes throughout the field. Kids are showing off their miny trophies, each with a bronze football on them. No one is paying attention to the two feet tall, gold, first place trophy that is in the winning team’s coach’s hand. Everybody is focused on the miniature trophies. Why are these trophies so special? These are participation trophies. Every kid gets one just for participatcuing in a game. Kids started getting participation trophies in the 20th Century. They got the trophies to feel more confident about themselves. Trophies should not be given to every kid because of narcissism increase,
Some argue that participation trophies are going to be the downfall of society and human life in general. That is not the case but, there are many downsides of these awards, in this essay a few of these will be brought to attention. Participation trophies do not teach children valuable lessons.
From our very first narrative, “My Writing Story” to the most recent opinion editorial assignment, I can honestly say I enjoyed writing each paper. But, my favorite writing assignment
Todays generation of kids have been crafted to expect praise for everyday tasks and have become entitled all because of something many people thought was harmless, participation trophies. If you ask anyone, they have probably recieved a participation trophy at least once in their life and some will think it was a good thing, but others may beg to differ. In my opinion participation trophies are a bad tool in life because it goes along and is a big part of the we are all winners concept. Trophies should be a symbol of accomplishing something not a symbol of participation in an activity and a few people have written about their opinion about this situation varying from critical writers, to college athletes from around the country here are
The first work I chose was my first paper I had written in college. The literacy narrative which I had titled Think Quick, was a challenge for me to write. I would normally sit down at my computer and just start writing my paper from the introduction to conclusion. This time I decided to try something different, I started with the body paragraphs. I also found it hard to incorporate someone else’s work into my paper. Once my paper was finished, I read over it to find mistakes and correct them.
To start with is the introduction; Nile Kinnick was very overwhelmed and happy to receive this trophy. It was a very classy
The first sets of the visual analysis are on drunk driving and drug use. All of these pictures relate to drunk driving and drug use and why it is bad for us to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In the first visual set, there are drunk driving and drug use advertisement pictures that are more effective than the others.
In this portfolio reflection essay I will be addressing the five essays I have written for my English 101 class. Along with addressing the five essays I have wrote I also will be stating my strengths and weaknesses of those essays. The five essays this portfolio will include is a diagnostic essay, revised narrative essay, profile essay, evaluation essay, and arguing a position essay. Those five essays I have written over the course of this semester have been very helpful towards my writing skills. Punctuating, staying on topic, my introductions, and conclusions are areas I struggle with when writing papers, but by writing those five papers during this semester has helped me improve on those areas.
Growing up, from the time I started my first day of class until walking across my hometowns football field to receive my diploma I never had thought that I let something define the person that I have become today. However, being presented with this essay I have come to the realization that football has defined me as a person. I don’t mean to say that the sport has had this much of an impact on me, I’d rather like to think that the memories associated with the sport has made an everlasting impact on my life.
Over the past semester, I have found the most challenging part of this course to simply be the transition from high school composition classes to college. Because writing expectations are so different in college than in high school, even with AP and Dual Enrollment “college level” classes, I first found myself being overwhelmed with the pressure to write the perfect first draft. The pressure came from knowing how much a final draft of a paper contributed to my grade. This left me sitting in front of my computer for hours at a time with thoughts of what I wanted to say racing through my head, but unable to deliver these thoughts into organized, structured sentences. I learned, through writing my persuasive essay, that instead of trying to write the paper start to finish and already in its perfect form, it is easier for me to look at the paper through its different components and focus on them individually, then work to best organize my ideas fluently.
As I look back on my schooling I can’t believe how many papers I’ve written throughout my life. Naturally as I’ve grown up, my writing has developed from learning how to write sentences all the way up to the pages of essays that consist of deeper criteria. I know for a fact that I’m a better writer now than I was before. College writing is more challenging and I’ve had to learn how to adjust to it.
Right now its Saturday; its the morning of course and I just remembered that my English teacher expects that I turn in the second portfolio of the year. As I look over at the time, I realize that I now have a topic to write about.
The first major paper to be submitted was the reaction paper. I found the paper quite challenging. This was because the topic was based off whatever article I can find about my current degree; BA History. However, the article I found was quite easy and relevant, because it dealt with how the job opportunities for a major are not limited to the common stereotypes labelled. The hardest part about the paper was how I would be able to get my message across because of the different ideas I wanted to combine. In the end with the help of my classmates and Ma’am Maxine, I
