Over the last 30 years, videos games have become very desirable for people of all ages, genders, and race. With the rapid growth of technology these games have become very life like and some seem as if you’re actually there inside the games. The rapid growth has made the video industry into a multi-billon dollar industry and this has created much controversy among the people because while the games are becoming very realistic, they are also becoming more violent. Since the creation of violent video games there have been constant disputes as to whether these games will increase violence in the player. Nevertheless, there has been research done to try and understand the correlation between video games and violence. Although video games are solely for entrainment, many of these games contain violent and aggressive content that doesn’t affect the players.
With the rise of technology people have begun to drift away from connecting in person and have adapted to this change by speaking or communicating through electronics. With games like Call of Duty and many others, players are able to communicate with other players, thus creating and maintaining friendships. A topic that is widely talked about in today’s society is bullying and this of course comes from people who are distanced from society and tend to keep to themselves. The media is quick to blame video games as the target and cause of many shootings that have occurred, ever since Columbine and Quake. People have been blaming video games for violence for years now, ever since violent video games have been made. News reports blame video games more and more for each shooting, telling the public how this person played video games for x amount of hours a day, and that video games caused him or her to shoot people, and how video games encourage and reward violence. Anti-video game lobbyists have been campaigning to have violence removed from video games, citing resources that they themselves have created as reasons for such, poorly done studies where they confirm that kids are more aggressive through how much hot sauce they put on someone’s fries. While unbiased studies of video games and their links to violence are hard to come by, recent research has shown that video games do not in fact have a casual link to violence, and may even have the opposite effect. Violent video games have nearly no link to violence in teens or adults.
