THESIS: Contact sports have been here since the medieval times. Soccer was also already being put into sport use by china in the dynasties. Implied, players on both teams have agreed to be hit, pushed, shoved, and possibly fought. What can be used for considering when or where a player crosses the line? Using examples from previous court cases, we will examine how players in the NHL could be charged when excessive force against other players in the opposite team come into play. Having hockey being used for an example, we will examine and look at the rules of the NHL, as well as how Todd Bertuzzi from the Vancouver Canucks stepped over the line, and was charged with assault.

The National Hockey League (NHL for short) was founded on November 22, 1917 in the city of Montreal, Quebec. It was intended, at first, to be an unincorporated non-profit organization operating a major professional ice hockey league of thirty franchised member clubs from all around the world. Six of them are in our home, Canada. Moreover, twenty-four teams are in the United States of America. In addition, the NHL is widely considered to be the premier and one of the best, professional ice hockey leagues worldwide. The organization demands highly skilled players from all over the world. Twenty different countries are enrolled with the organization presently. Canadians historically constituted the majority of the players in the NHL however; due to the expansion of the league many years after, the percentages of American and European trained players have increased and have become more common. The expansions were made from six to thirty clubs since 1967, and the increased availability of highly skilled European players was becoming more and more common.
