Experiencing violence is one thing that everyone tries to avoid. But violence happens all around us. As well as one not know that they’re in a situation that includes violence. In the Outsiders, a novel written by S.E. Hinton has violence written all over it. But 90% of the entire book is about gang fights, fights between social classes, rumbles, and even killing. This is very relatable to violence because all the things listed include violence. When someone is angry, it’s not worth putting your anger on someone else because it doesn’t just affect

Some people who put their anger on somebody else don’t realize that it’s easier to talk it out rather than cause a person’s life to be lost. And self-defense is usually what people use to get themselves out of the situation. But sometimes, it could lead to bad things. On page 51 of the Outsiders, Johnny Cade tells Ponyboy that “I killed him, he said slowly. I killed that boy. Bob the handsome soc was lying there in the moonlight doubled up and still.” (Hinton, 51). This shows that violence can most of the times be used for self-defense. But talking it out would have been easier, instead of hurting another. As a result, self-defense can’t always be acceptable since it depends on the situation. And people who use self-defense usually have access to guns or weapons to keep themselves safe. Violence is something that people still tend to do when they know what will happen after. And when people still cause violence, it can cause a lot of problems as well as conflicts. On page 8 of the Outsiders, Ponyboy says that “the medium sized blond pulled a knife out of his back pocket and flipped the blade open.” (Hinton, 8). This shows that Soc’s just do whatever they want without realizing how much problems and conflicts. This related to what is happening in real life. As a result, violence is something that causes most of our problems. And people don’t realize that doing violence will just cause more crimes and
Once, a wise soul has spoken, “Sometimes adversity is what you need to face in order to become successful”. Adversity means having troubles and difficulties. It’s what you need to persevere through in order to do something you’ve wanted to do for a long time. If you want to pass that test, you’ve gotta conquer your fears and fight through all the troubles that arrive in front of you. Become your own hero. Adversity is a situation that took place in the novel “The Outsiders”, by S.E. Hinton.
According to Chris Pine, “The only thing you sometimes have control over is perspective. You don’t have control over your situation. But you have a choice about how you view it.” This quote means you can choose how you view people and things. This relates to the Outsiders because the novel is about how you choose to view people. The Outsiders is about how people shouldn’t judge others based on stereotypes and they should get to know them first.
The Outsiders S.E. Hinton is about two gangs, the Socs and Greasers, who do not get along and are fighting each other as well as society. Both of the gangs are judged by their appearance, social status, and where they are from. One character that stands out in the story is Ponyboy because he is dynamic with many sides to his personality, and he is the protagonist of the story. Ponyboy can be described as sensitive, smart, and brave.
The movie, The Outsiders, starts with the Curtis parents on their weekly, Saturday evening drive to the baking store to buy some ingredients for their boys’ favorite Sunday morning, breakfast treat: chocolate cake. The Curtis boys love their chocolate cake for Sunday breakfast not only because they love it, but also because they appreciate how hard their parents have to work to save the monies necessary for the morsels that put smiles on their faces!
A hero is someone who is admired for his/her courage and his/her need to help others. Some examples of heroes are Spiderman, Superman, Ironman, Superwoman, and Batman. However, the real heroes are strangers that risk their lives to help others. The book, The Outsiders, shows several heroes that sacrifice their own safety for the greater good. This book centers around the gang, greasers, and the feud between the greasers and Socs. Three characters that show enormous courage and save multiple lives are Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally. In S.E Hinton’s The Outsiders, Johnny, Ponyboy, Dally emerge as heroes because they all risk their lives for another.
“I don’t even call it violence when it’s self-defence; I call it intelligence.” - Malcolm X
The story The Outsiders By S.E Hinton is said to be “timeless” because kids can relate to the characters and themes of the story. In my opinion the story The Outsiders is not timeless because kids these days can’t relate to the characters in the story The Outsiders. Kids today aren’t riding in rodeos, roll drunks, jump smaller kids, walk to a stranger's house, or get in a stranger’s car, also they get arrested at the age of 10. Saying the statement “The Outsiders is a “timeless” book “ is an invalid statement. So, Kids today often don’t relate to The Outsiders anymore in many ways.
Violence can be justified if the cause is to protect yourself or others; The Outsiders by: S.E. Hinton gives light to these crimes. Creating change helps the lives of people prosper and grow usually people create change with violence. Our planet changes everyday our thoughts, opinions, feelings and people come in and out of our lives and we cannot change that with anything we do. When reading The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton you get told a story about the hardships of teens living in “the hood”. It brings light to what they go through to protect themselves and their loved
Is it better to be an individual or conform to expectations just to fit in like others? This choice is faced by Ponyboy Curtis, the narrator, throughout S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders. He belongs to the Greasers, a group of delinquent friends, who are viewed by many as poor and dangerous, while the rival Socs are viewed as rich, smart, and powerful causing the Greasers to envy them. Ponyboy learns from Randy Adderson, a Soc who is trapped by stereotype threat, that their lives are not as perfect as he expected it to be and they too face problems. In addition, Ponyboy tries to act tough and fit in with the rest of gang, but his Greaser companions, such as Two-Bit Matthews, teach him to embrace his own characteristics which sets him apart from
Throughout life individuals face many challenges testing their values and personality one situation at a time. In the evocative novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton themes of growing up and innocence are shown. Ponyboy is not your average 14 year old he is part of a gang known to many as the Greasers. He encounters many situations testing his values and beliefs. Having lost both his parents recently he and his brothers stick together like a true family but this relationship is tested when Darry hits Ponyboy. ...ely with one another and lived in peace as partners, the ease of human transgression permits no romanticized view of this Agolden age.@ Finally B and this is a much more fragmentary conceptualization B the story refuses its hearers the luxury of demonizing, suppressing or repressing violence. Violence is not something that others do to us, but something we inflict upon others. The story consequently demands that we confront and internalize deeply the consequences of violence, and in this alone offers a profoundly important model of response.
The notion that retaliation is a factor in the cycle of violence is an interesting one and one I believe in. The New york Times article Bored, Broke and Armed: Clues to Chicago’s Gang Violence by John Eligon and SE Hinton's novel The Outsiders support this assertion. In the novel The Outsiders the Socs seek revenge on the Greasers, “ when the blue mustang pulled up to the park, “ Johnny shook his head.’I don’t know but, I bet they are looking for us. We picked up their girls.’” This shows that because the Greasers picked up the Socs girls they are looking for trouble. This just father proves that this cycle of violence will continue. The Soc beat up Johnny, Johnny talks to their girls, the Soc retaliate and come after him for talking to their girls.
De Becker says: "People don't just 'snap' and become violent. There is a process as observable, and often as predictable, as water coming to a boil." Gaining the knowledge to predict violence is the best way, of course, of preventing and avoiding
