Violating The Honor Code Of Cheating

People have cheated in college for years without getting caught; is it right to steal other people's work? A kid in college was the top kid in the class and people had always cheated on him during his academic career. He was too afraid to tell any teachers about the kids cheating and making him do the assignments. Until the honor code was established in their university and a peer noticed the kids cheating and talked to him about turning them in. The net day he told the professor and the kids who were cheating were caught and expelled. This is why Broken Arrow and other schools should establish a honor code.

Violating the honor code comes with big consequences. Philip Altbach is an education scholar at the Boston College, he said he is not

surprised there is plagiarism.¨Plagiarism is more common now it's just easier to do.¨(Altbach 10). The honor code needs to be enforced because ¨Since last spring, 157 students have been investigated by their peers in the largest cheating scandal in memory. 39 of those have of those accused of violating the schools honor code have either dropped out or have been expelled¨(Kahn 10). Plagiarism is more common and more people are hearing about the honor code.
Many people have heard of the honor code. ¨88% of the students in a study said that they have failed because they have violated the honor code¨(Pringle 20). Only 48% of the students say that the code is enforced fairly. People hear the honor code but they still want to cheat. 40% people have cheated and have not been caught. All the people hearing about the honor code feel like it is just a new rule.
College students want trust in their community. Many students worried that the honor code is just another rule that will make them rat out their peers. The consequence for not telling anyone that a peer has cheated is a period of probation. Universities need to establish an honor code so we can all trust each other. ¨I wanted to go to a school where I could feel comfortable taking an exam without worrying about someone looking at my paper¨ (Vangelli 1). People need to trust others that they will do their own work.
Establishing an honor code in Broken Arrow will help future students. The consequences of violating the honor code can be drop-outs and expelled students. Many students hear about the honor code in class, but think it is another rule they do not have to follow. Students just want trust in their peers to do their work. If there is trust in our community, then our society will be better in the future. Also if we establish the honor code earlier in schools, then we could raise a more honest and responsible generation.
