Paragraph 1:

The artwork (Self-Portrait with Felt Hat) was created by Vincent van Gogh in Paris during December 1886 to January 1887. ‘He did an early study in a French atelier Fernand Cormon (1845-1924). He began studying there in the spring of 1886, this artwork was one of his early creations’(Vincent van Gogh Foundation).

Vincent Willem van Gogh, a Dutch post-impressionist painter that was birthed in a Protestant pastor's home, as the pioneer of post-Impressionism era and has profoundly influenced 20th-century art, especially Fauvism and Expressionism. He finally had contacts with the true Paris painters when he moved to Paris and lived with his brother. Impressionist painter influence, and later after long-term painting in the wild, the color gradually changed from a dark color of shades into brighter ones. This painting was created shortly after van Gogh arrived in Paris, and is characterized by a range of earth colors (Debra N. Mancoff ).

Although he has many famous paintings, this one is the masterpiece that recognizes him as a gentleman. Many people say van Gogh was a madman, but it all comes from when he became ill. While only 37 years old, he spends most of his time in continuous creation and learning, I really admire his spirit. In the picture, van Gogh's eyes revealed melancholy and faith of what he believed in, which is why I fancy this painting.

In van Gogh's artwork, van Gogh showed a gentlemanlike style of dressing, and I chose the scarf to reduce the melancholy of the painting. In van Gogh's artwork, his eyes were most distinctive among other details within the artwork. I tried to imitate his looks by adding some facial shadow to create the illusion of a beard. In order to give the proper respect that the author deserves, I also tried to imitate the attitude that the original tried to give to the audience.
