The first video response that we did was the movie “Harvest”. It was about three young peoples who have been working for their families just trying to survive. It talks about the hardships they have with finding work and how they bounce around to just find work. They have some very bad lives and people feel very bad for them. Now I am going to describe how symbolic interactionism, conflict theory, and functionalism. Symbolic interactionism is the theory that human interaction and communications is facilitated by words, gestures, and other symbols that have acquired conventionalized meanings. They have symbolic interactionism through words by telling about things they go through on the daily routine. They must get up at 5 am and head out to work even if …show more content…
They liked how they can do what they want. They can work and support their family. You can have as many kids as you want here and there is a better government compared to where the illegals came from. Conflict theory also relates by how these illegals are going against their people. They go against their country because they hate it there. There government warns all their people though that once you live do not get caught because if you get sent back the government is going to kill you. They go against their families by not telling them and just leaving just to show that they can make it. They do that because they want to get to the United States and figure it out and then they want to get their families their so then everyone can be happy. Conflict theory also relates by how these people in the movie have very limited resources in their country. You can tell by how it is very hard to find a job and they all live very poorly. That ends up being partly the governments problems because they are corrupt there in their countries but they have to deal with
During this years America experience a lot of major transformations with culture because a lot of people were migrating here from all parts of the world. Some believe that people who migrated should look up to Americans because Americans believe they were superior to anyone else, and they thought it would only be fair if they follow their customs and beliefs. There was debates weather the Mexican-American culture could draw from two rich culture traditions in the United States. Acculturation was being sued at this time and many people supported because there was a lot of changes that was happening in both cultures but there was also assimilation that was occurring. Assimilation let people adapt to new changes and change their own culture to the new culture they were learning. For many Mexican Americans assimilation was hard for them because of dominant Anglo society and their exclusionary rules. Some were rejected and but they didn’t care to put them in any of the middle class white societies. Many came to a agreement that they could practice there own beliefs without interfering with the other cultures beliefs. This helped created less conflict even if there was still people who had many differences. Assimilation and acculturation is a very hard thing to distinguish where each person should go based on there culture because not a lot people want to adapt to the new life but
Poverty is the greatest challenge in their country, however, some families do not let that discourage them. The families sacrifice the minuscule amount of money they have saved to provide a better life for their children. They want their children to chase every opportunity or aspiration they have. They do not want to subject their children to labor just because they did it for a living. In America, there are limitless opportunities because America is a first world country. Therefore, the country has a lot to offer since it holds power and wealth, but some U.S. citizens do not take advantage of the opportunities. Many people complain about the inability to find a job, but there are new positions opening every day. Americans take the opportunities for granted because they know they will always be there which is why their aggression and motivation has vanished. However, they become furious when the Indians immigrant to their country and take the jobs that were once available for

In sociology symbolic interactionism explains the individual in a society and their interactions with others and through that it can explain social order and change. This theory was compiled from the teachings of George Herbert Mead in the early 20th century. Mead believed that the development of the individual was a social process. People are subjected to change based on their interactions with other people, objects or events and they assign meaning to things in order to decide how to act. This perspective depends on the symbolic meaning that people depend on in the process of social interaction. This paper will examine the movie “The Blind Side” through the symbolic interaction perspective.
...ool to receive an education. However, being new in America, they were apt to make many mistakes, which in some cases proved deadly. In all, their experiences helped them to develop knowledge of their new homeland. They also helped them to make better decisions and better the future for their family.
For this particular assignment I have chosen the movie Django Unchained, which is a fantastic movie and I recommend it to anyone who has not yet seen it. I chose the movie Django Unchained because I believe that it exhibits the sociological theories we have covered in many different ways; and I believe that every person would apply these specific sociological theories in their own ways. The two sociological theories that I plan to apply to the movie Djano Unchained are, social conflict theory and symbolic interaction theory.
Mexicans were happy with their lives and the amount of territory they occupied. They were not trying to take over the world nor conquer America. But when American life came to the west all that changed. Americans wanted more land so we stole it form he Mexicans. By taking the Mexicans land we fought many battles that we unneeded. Mexicans adapted very quickly to the American lifestyle and began to populate many farms and towns in the US. But some were not as pleasant to change with the times. Most Mexicans were thought of as dirty and below Americans, so in that way were treated. But overcoming that Mexicans were hard workers and took many jobs at that time for lower wages, the same is true to this day.
Specifically, one of those was the insecurity felt by the children as they traveled through Mexico. At one point in the film, the boys talked about how they were robbed and abused by Mexican authorities. One of them spoke briefly about how it took several Mexican officials to take his watch off his arm, because he refused to hand it over. This issue leads back to one that was described earlier in this paper, the influence organized crime has on the Mexican government. The major issue that was cited in this documentary however, is the growing number of unaccompanied children traveling to the United States. This issue has two sides to it, the social side and the political side. The first side of this issue starts at the home country of each of these children. Their government is not able or not willing to help them, and as a result they live in poverty and without access the basic human needs; water, food, shelter. This leads the children to want better for themselves and ultimately to take the decision to travel to the U.S. On the political side, the unaccompanied children are causing Mexico and the United States to spend more money on Immigration. This because they have to create more detention centers for minors, they have to house and feed them until they are deported to their country of origin. Throughout the film these issues are put into the perspective of the children. The reason the directors did this, was to show the challenges the children face as they made their journey. The reason they used that perspective is because it is a unique one. It is not every day that you hear about a 12 year old who traveled across Mexico and into the United States
What if your family’s life was in your hands and a decision had to be made, and quickly? What if war was consuming the things that were revolving you? Well that was the case for the majority of the Mexican families living during the Mexican revolution. Many Mexicans fled Mexico moving to America looking for a prosperity, wealth, a better life to live because revolution had taken charge in Mexico, destroying people houses, changing family’s lives.
are the three major paradigms that function in today’s society. Functionalist, and conflict paradigms are macro-sociological paradigms. Symbolic interaction is a micro-sociological paradigm. Functionalist paradigm focuses on the integration of society, while social conflict focuses on the issue of division among society. Symbolic interaction works on communication and social change as a consequence. The three paradigms are completely different from each other in a social point of view. The macro-sociological paradigms view America as an inequality state. The social conflict paradigm fits today’s society.
In sociology we have learned about the three major sociological perspectives which are; symbolic interactionism, functionalism, or conflict theory. Conflict theory is my favorite topic that I learned about this year. Conflict theory was founded by Karl Marx that claims society is in a state of perpetual conflict due to competition for limited resources. Conflict theory holds that social order is maintained by domination and power, rather than consensus and conformity. The main elements in social conflict are that society is created in ways to benefit the higher class, and factors such as race, sex, class, and age are likely to experience social inequality. To a social conflict theorist, it is all about dominant group vs. minority group relations. Karl Marx is considered the 'father ' of social conflict theory. The movie “The Hunger Games” shows many examples of social conflict throughout the whole movie.
Many countries around the world experience great poverty, maybe because the country has little amounts of natural resources or it has never gotten out of a slump that dragged down the economy. The people of the country are affected greatly by this, almost directly, if there are no resources available, people can’t work to refine the resources, make or use them. So instead of using the resources available, the country buys the materials needed. This puts the country in debt, along with the people. In order to get out of debt, taxes are raised and people slowly lose their jobs and their money. The affect of that is turmoil, some people blame their misfortune on a certain race or culture, some on a religion. In the case of Germany in 1938...
Some seasons are being jobless, lack of education, wars in his or her country. People are moving to the USA to improve their life conditions with family and friends. Immigrates are coming from their country to enjoy the freedom in America. . Many people can’t afford to live in Liberia. Africans love America so much, so they try their best to come and live here. America is a free country with a lot of opportunities. My country Liberia was in civil war during the past years so this led many of us immigrating to the United States of America. There are so much good things when living in America such as jobs, money with paying for your school, free public schools for kids and living in a nice and safe environment. Many people do not have these kinds of opportunities in their native country. My favorite thing about living in America is the cultures, food, freedom of speech and learning new things all the
When it comes to immigration, many things come to mind. There are many things that an immigrant faces when he/she decides to migrate to another country. For instance, for an immigrant moving is not an easy thing to do, they will have to leave everything behind and start over again in a whole different country than their own native country. At first it is going to be hard because they do not know anyone, they do not speak the language. Parents will have to look for a house and also look for a job to support their family and learn how to survive in what seems like a different world.
Symbolic interactionism tends to observe things by paying full attention to the micro level of sociology. Instead of focusing on broader aspects you look at things depending upon the individual and their interactions in society. Through the use of symbols we are able to assign meaning to people and things and then develop our own interpretations of those symbols.
