Recommended: Violation of rights of women essay

Many people say that women have earned many rights and privilgies than previously; however, despite having all these privligies and rights such as voting or working, women are still degraded. Stereotypes and violence towards has been a major issue for many years, but men still continue to violate or judge a women in inappropriate ways. Today, the world is advanced in terms of science and technology, but the world is not advanced in terms of respecting females. I am not saying that all men degrade women or that all females respect each other; however, majority are men that belittle a women. Interestingly, most of science and technology is used to please men. For example, why are video games such as Grand Theft Auto portraying women as these …show more content…

I always knew that women are portrayed as sexual objects in the media, but I never thought that science and technology are socially constructed around pleasing men. The feminist design project and the readings really helped me understand that even a lawn mower is socially constructed around a man. Most people who designs essential objects are men, but it is shocking that they do not even take a women’s health into consideration before creating these objects. For example, my group used the video game Grand Auto Theft as the technology to design. The original design gave women demeaning roles because the designers are supposed to make men feel dominant over females. The technology used in the original design was not helping women and provoked many stereotypes towards women such as women are sexual objects, are dumb, are insecure of their bodies and are desperate for attention. Whereas men were portrayed as strong and smart, therefore their design did not portray any signs of equality. Instead of portraying women as sexual objects, we decided to change the clothing that the females wore, gave them actual character roles, provided them with occupations and gave them appropriate names. The reason why we decided to modify Grand Theft Auto is that we do not want males, especially younger males, to be under the influence that women are not
