Unit 1 Object 1: An Engagement ring How it relates: Engagement rings are symbols of the love, devotion, and fidelity a couple shares. They are circles of metal which has a very sacred, symbolic geometry. Circles have no beginning and no end and thus represent eternity, renewal, wholeness, and perfection. The gesture of a man presenting an engagement ring to a woman is asking her to start a long term relationship by marrying him. This relates to the Preamble which is the preliminary part of a document, legislation, a contract or a treaty explaining what it is all about and why was it prepared. With the exchange of the rings in a wedding ceremony, it should represent the vows and promises the bride and groom are committing between each …show more content…

The protagonist, a Division agent, assisted in planning the operation with the mission of taking back New York City which was infected by a smallpox disease known as "Green Poison" or "The Dollar Flu ( He could then represent the legislative branch by making strategic plans to combat the pandemic). The agents who undertake assignments to rescue important personnel, helped in restoring the base of operations to full working capacity and combat criminal groups, such as the Rioters, common street thugs in New York who generally want to take advantage of the quarantine, could be considered as the Judicial Branch in enforcing the peace and order of New York …show more content…
Income tax returns are governed by the federal government. Employers should withhold income taxes on wages. Property taxes are imposed by most local governments and many special purpose authorities based on the fair market value of property. Sales taxes are imposed by most states and some localities on the price at retail sale of many goods and some services. Example is that Massachusetts imposes a sales tax but New Hampshire
In Jewish law, a couple’s marriage becomes official when the Choson gives an object of value, traditionally a gold ring, to the Kallah. Under clear view of the two witnesses, the ring is placed on the forefinger of the Kallah’s right hand. The Choson (groom) declares to the Kallah (bride), "Behold, you are betrothed unto me with this ring, according to the law of Moses and Israel." According to Jewish law, this is the central moment of the wedding ceremony, and at this point the couple is fully
Symbolism- “You’re supposed to ask yourself what the ring means. Obviously it has something to do with love, rings always do, and since she’s taken it off, obviously something has gone wrong in the love relationship.” (Arnason, page 228)
The Hunt for Red October takes place during the Cold War, causing much distrust and deceit. Marko Alexandrovich Ramius, a Lithuanian submarine commander in the Soviet Navy and son of a prominent Soviet politician, intends to defect to the United States with his officers on board the experimental nuclear submarine Red October. The Red October is a Typhoon-class vessel equipped with a revolutionary stealth propulsion system that makes audio detection by sonar extremely difficult. Immediately evident to Jack Ryan, a high-level CIA analyst, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Red October is a strategic weapon that is capable of sneaking its way into American waters and launching nuclear missiles with little or no warning. The strategic value of Red October was apparent to Ramius, but other factors drove his decision to defect. His wife, Natalia, died at the hands of an incompetent doctor who went unpunished because he was the son of a Soviet political member. Her untimely death, combined with Ramius' long-standing dissatisfaction with the cruelty of Soviet rule and his fear of Red October's destabilizing effect on world affairs, ended his tolerance of the Soviet system.
Facing hardships, problems, or obstacles shouldn’t discourage one from completing their task or job. Many of authors usually put their characters through tough complications to show the reader that no matter what happens; anyone could pull through. In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connel, the main character Mr. Rainsford gets stranded on an eerie island with a bad reputation. He meets General Zaroff and gets thrown into a huge hunting game, where his life is on the line. In the end, he wins the game and will continue to hunt animals, but not people, as the general once did. He will continue to hunt because one, hunting means everything to him. Two, he will not continue the general’s crazy ways, and resort back to the legal and non-dangerous to other humans sport. Third, he feels powerful when he becomes the hunter and not the hunted. Giving up hunting would be like giving up his life, so just because of a minor block he had to overcome, he will not give up hunting.

During the 17 years of my life, I really get pissed off when I lose at Far Cry 3. It’s a game where a family and friends are taking a trip celebrating the main character, Jason Brody younger brother, Riley getting his pilot's licence. I know it’s just a game and not real life, but I get so intense in the video game it makes me angry. The game starts with Jason his older brother, Grant and brother Riley are skydiving with friends over the Pacific Islands. They reached Rook Island and were taken captive by pirates. Jason and his older brother attempt to escape and Grant is shot and killed. Jason was only able to escape by jumping off a high cliff landing in a river. He is rescued by a man named Dennis and applies tatau on his arm. A tatau is tattoo symbolized the mark of a warrior. As a player you are the character Jason, your goal is to rescue Riley and the rest of the group from the pirates and kill the Pirate Leader Vaas, his boss Hoyt, and as many pirates as you can.
Among a number of puzzling questions raised in the film Full Metal Jacket (1987), one of the most important is “Why did Pvt. Pyle kill the drill instructor and himself?” To answer this question, one must analyse several scenes in the first third of the film where the platoon is in basic training. Right from the start of the film, Leonard Lawrence (nicknamed Gomer Pyle) is singled out from the platoon for poor decision making and simply being physically unfit. Throughout bootcamp, a sequence of events takes place that alienates Pvt. Pyle and eventually culminates in the deaths of the drill instructor and Pvt. Pyle himself.
Work in physics is defined as force acting upon a body, and a displacement occurs from the point of application in the direction of the force. Even the definition suggests a change of course. It provides distraction and a learning experience. The reward is special and unable to be misplaced or embezzled.
Despite people celebrating marriage in different ways it all comes back to one thing; marriage is a social ritual that by which two people affirms one abiding contracts between. The ceremonies are composed of rituals which symbolize facets of married life and the obligations being undertaken. In Hinduism the marriage celebration can start weeks before the actual ceremony depending on the preferences of the family. Once the day of the ceremony comes around the day starts with the brides’ family welcoming the groom into their home and both families are formally introduced. Both the bride and groom sit at the Mandap- tent where the ceremony is held under,-and are offered a drink. Gifts between the two families are generally exchanged at this point. The groom's mother gives an auspicious necklace to the bride, which is essentially an emblem of the married status in the Hindu religion. Then scared fire is lit and a pundit recites t...
In Hollywood there is also a lack of representation with executives because the most of the power resides in people that are ethnically white. Brent Lang and Dave McNary believe that black films are usually not picked up by studios because very few people in powerful positions are black. Therefore, most studios don’t understand what would appeal to black audiences. This causes analysts to undervalue the potential profit of black films, turning executives away from being interested in pursuing black film projects. Examples of black movie profits far exceeding predictions are found in this quote from their article , How Tracking Fails Diverse Movies: “"Straight Outta Compton 's" $60.2 million debut was roughly $20 million more than most trade publications had predicted. "War Room," a faith-based drama about the power of prayer, more than doubled predictions with its $11.3 million launch. And last weekend 's champ, Sony 's "Perfect Guy," exceeded expectations by nearly $15 million when it kicked off with $29.4 million” (Lang and McNary). The history between black and whites in America come into play with the existence of a phenomenon called the “Hollywood plantation arrangement” which alludes to the relationship of black slaves and white slaveowners pre-civil war. This idea describes how “the relationship between African Americans and White Americans is rooted in a tradition of ownership, guidance, and responsibility” which “directly influences African Americans’ ability to access economic power and ownership, thereby limiting creative control and cultural protection (Ndoubou 7). The ruling class, which in Hollywood is the whites, use their power to maintain control by creating these images in media that make the blacks seem lesser...

Engagement rings initially served a double purpose. In the days when brides were purchased, these rings were partial payment for the bride in addition to symbolizing the groom's intentions and woman's agreement. Diamonds were first found in Medieval Italy and due to their hardness symbolized enduring love.
In the modern day era, we find in society a ubiquitous usage of technology that seems to be never ending and forever growing. Included with this notion, the broad subject of surveillance is of course included. Contemporary surveillance, or more specifically technological surveillance, has been described as ambiguous; meaning that it is often misunderstood or open to different interpretations. The representation of surveillance within popular culture has played an impacting role on how we as a society perceive it and this raises certain questions that may reflect back on to society. The 1998 film Enemy Of The State directed by Tony Scott, Starring Will Smith, Gene Hackman and Jon Voight is considered to be a ‘spy-thriller’ blockbuster. Its central themes explore a range of surveillance techniques and equipment and also provides some insights, no matter how realistic or unrealistic they may be, into the real life security organisation; The National Security Agency (NSA). Using this film as an example and analysing how these themes are represented will hopefully allow us to key these ideas back to modern surveillance theories and practices.
The book Patriot Games written by Tom Clancy is a classic read. Patriot Games easily hooks the reader into the Jack Ryan universe by developing the human qualities of Jack himself.
Most compelling about Watkins’ film War Game, was its ability to deceive the viewer. Frequently throughout the film, I found myself questioning where, if at all, the line could be drawn between staged content and unscripted dialog. While the sequences depicting nuclear blasts and the ensuing injuries/fatalities were easily identifiable as fictional events, many of the interviews with the British citizens were much more difficult to evaluate. A prominent example of this is when various individuals–seemingly at random–are asked what strontium-90 is, a question to which none of them provide a correct answer. This scene is particularly difficult to decipher because there are no historical or contextual clues that indicate whether these are paid
