Music videos are a means of communicating emotions appealing to an artist; sharing it with the world. My music video of choice is “Wide Awake” by Katy Perry. The song is written and sung by Katy Perry a well-known artist presenting lots of emotion. The song’s story telling promotes youth to adult transitioning, identifying three key phases of development: comfortable ignorance, turmoil catalyzing seeking, and resulting establishment of higher self-awakening. The song talks about being in a good place high above the ground, and the next thing you know you are falling and in pieces on the ground. This happens on a daily bases to everyone in the world, Katy is showing us that everyone goes through it, but it will mean nothing if you cannot get back up and move on with your life, a lesson of learn and forget. Previous releases largely focused on partying, love and sexuality; Wide Awake offers a more …show more content…
In the music video there is a scene in the end of the video where after Katy has been through everything, she is in a meadow with a man that resembles prince charming, they both go in for a kiss and prince charming crosses his fingers and Katy sees that so she punches him on the face and he fall away into a bush. This appeals to logos because if someone who claims to love you really do not love you and has just been using you from the start, a punch in the face is what he would be rewarded with. When someone is deceiving you your logical reaction is to get very angry and that causes us to do stupid things. Katy is telling us through this video that you cannot let someone or something control you, you will get hurt but you will recover. That's the logical thing to do when you're down; you get back up and learn from your mistakes. Like Katy, when we falling from external comforts, we too can “pick up every piece, and land on our feet” with new internal realizations. As she claims, truly, we “Need nothing to complete
I have chosen to do two songs waiting on a woman by Brad Presley witch the whole song makes a gender stereotype about woman always making a man wait. The second song I choose to do is George Straits A fathers Love which enforces it’s hard to be a father and what a good strong dad role model is. Both songs spoke to me in different ways.
My first song I´ve chosen is Sean McGee, song titled My Story. Mainly the song is about him facing different struggles, obstacles, and all the horrible things and situations he´s been in throughout his life. I can connect to this song and the lyrics for many reasons. One of his lines were ¨Do you know how it feels to be left out in the rain¨? And I have faced times like this when I feel like no one is there or have my back, and in the line he´s trying express how it feels to have nobody and be all alone. Also throughout this song he expresses how everyday you wake up your face with something rather it's just a minor issue or something that will greatly impact your life.
Chris Stapleton’s music video for his song, “Fire Away,” is one that grabs those forgotten words by the horns and shows everyone who watches the effect of them on not only those suffering from the illness, but the people closest to
This part of the video persuades the audience to trust that the singer knows what it is like to be under stress from
The music of today has many songs in which there is a hidden meaning or stories behind the song. The song " Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke and Pharrell is a song with a hidden meaning given much to talk about , another song which has a similar meaning with previous song is "You Do Not Even Know It " by Rick Ross. The intent of this paper is to compare song to song through its similar meaning. Both of these songs have a very rough meaning. These songs are inspired in hidden personalities , lies , appearances, violation , drugs , sex, etc. In " Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke and Pharrell it talks about rape and sexual assault and all of these because of the use of alcohol and drugs. In "You Do Not Even Know It " by Rick Ross it also talks about how some people appearencess are not what they really are in
When artists go through an emotional down fall in there career’s you see some stars fall and other’s reflect to back when it all started to better themselves. As Katy Perry stated in her interview with U.S.A Today Prism is “less over-the-top and more “me””. I have come to realize that when artist put out an album, it isn’t just to see how many copies they can sell but it’s about making music with feelings, getting into there inner self and reaching out to those who admire them, the social text of the music is the heart of every song and the album altogether. A lot of the time artist will write about their emotions but never really behind the sense of what occurred. Here I will take two artists and break down there trails and show how they made them into triumphs through the context of there music. I will describe how these artist were able to create pieces of music that took over a particular emotion and were able to get it’s point across to the listener. These artists will be Katy Perry, and Britney Spears.
The music video of “Crooked Smile” by J. Cole illustrates a story that not most people see. The music video reenacts the incident that involved the slain of Aiyana Jones. Although the music video portrays a tragic event, the lyrics of the music video tell a different story. The lyrics tell a message to people, especially females, to love themselves and to not worry what others think of them. In the music video “Crooked Smile,” Cole illustrates the war between the government, drugs, and the innocent victims who are caught in between them. With the song and music video combined, the message to its viewers is to find change and peace not only in the community, but also in our minds.
There is one universal language: the language of music. Music has a special quality and ability to bridge both social and cultural divides. A proposed theory by Dr. Gray, Founder and Director of National Musical Arts’ BioMusic Program; describes music has been around longer than human-beings have. Music is the one thing human beings from various backgrounds can relate to. Every living creature would agree. Music is heard everywhere not just among humans, but in nature as well, through the twitting of birds, winds blowing, the soft sound of raindrops against a windowpane, the ocean waves moving back and forth and the hum of the ocean rushing in a sea shell. There is no escaping it; music lives in and surrounds us steadily. While there are countless songs which confer social or cultural consciousness, this paper will analyze and address the dynamics of M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes”, video. Stylistically, the paper will examine the artist point of view, the unique use of lyrical analysis and sound description in relation to its historical, social, political and/or cultural context. This essay will also trace the lyrical analysis and sound description of song and discuss how the elements (visually, sonically, and lyrically) interplay with the theme of immigration and/or violence.
Don’t pick a song just because you like it, it must have meaning. Your list must be typed and include the following information: Song title, artist, and a short three to five sentence explanation as to why the song represents you.
One of my all-time favorite songs that tells a story is, "Love Like Crazy," by Lee Brice. This song tells about how Lee Brice went through life and how he made it through with the love of his life. "Be a best friend, tell the truth, and overuse ‘I love you,’ go to work, do your best, don`t out smart your common sense, never let your praying knees get lazy, and love like crazy," is a meaningful line from the lyrics of the song. This line of the lyrics tells how a person can get through life through the good and bad times. More people in this world should take this song as advice for life. I have listened to this song over a thousand times, and I get more out of it each time I listen to it. I relate to this song`s story because I am living this story right now in my life. I was seventeen when I found the love of my life. Everyone around me told me I was crazy, and I had no clue what love was. I have proven them wrong so far because I have been with the love of my life for four years now. Also, I am a child grew up with nothing and I have learned that I have to work for what I what in life. I have worked since I was fifteen, and I have loved every minute of it. I also am one who will follow my dreams even if everyone around me is telling me that I cannot do it, or I am not able to do it. This song`s story has been an inspiration to me in many

An Analysis of the Video "Like A Prayer" by Madonna Madonna first arrived in the national popular culture in 1984 with her song "Borderline". She moved very quickly in the ensuing years to make several records (many of which have gone multi-platinum) and to take several world tours with sold-out concerts, and has caused quite a bit of controversy in what she has done in the public eye. Examples include posing nude for Penthouse magazine (and announcing afterwards that she was not ashamed for doing it), marrying (and subsequently divorcing) actor and media-avoider Sean Penn, creating a fashion trend (which was primarily popular with teenage girls), and making truly atrocious movies which the critics hated and the people refused to see (the only two exceptions are Dick Tracy and Truth or Dare, her controversial yet fascinating self-documentary about her tour of the same name). It seems that Madonna seems to enjoy attention, good or bad, and it seems like she feeds on her own controversy. Her songs, and the music videos which accompany them, are no exception to this.
Katy is mimicking the Ancient Egyptian Queen Cleopatra by the way she carries herself. The men bringing the Queen gifts depicts the stereotypical way of how men try to win a woman’s heart by offering them a gift. The music video pocks fun at this by having Katy Perry transform each man who delivers her a gift into an object relevant to their gift, because just offering a gift is not enough for a powerful woman like Perry. Another example of the use of symbolism in the music video was when Perry sings “Are you ready for? Ready for? A perfect storm? Perfect storm?” The “perfect storm” represents the conflict between Perry’s personalities. She is the girl of the men’s dreams, but at the same has the power to crush them if she is crossed in
All around the word there have been many cases of bullying, some that were prevented and some that ended in a tragedy such as death. The song “Mean,” by Taylor Swift is effective in using metaphor, similes, and symbolism to promote the prevention of bullying by letting everyone know to never let anyone push you around and to always stand up for your self. This song was written because, Taylor swift herself was bullied by Bob Lefsetz, a critic who heard her song, "did Taylor Swift kill her career overnight?…Taylor 's too young and dumb to understand the mistake she made.” This are the types of comments that can cause a person to feel worthless and untalented. We can see that no matter what age you are there’s always the possibility of getting
