Ripple Effect: The Power of One Small Act

A single, tiny act is all that it takes to create a ripple effect of colossal changes. One change that can be perceived as insignificant by others could actually have a huge impact on your life, or the life of another. I recently watched a video called: “How wolves changed Yellowstone Park”. The video was about how the reintroduction of wolves into the park caused substantial changes in the entire ecosystem. The park’s plant life immediately began to regrow at a rapid pace, animals that were previously scarce began rising in population, the physical land began to change as rivers filled and started meandering less. All of this, caused by one small act. I relate to this on a very deep level, because I believe that this idea of one small act creating a ripple effect that can lead to some significant change, can be applied to a lot of situations in life. This really got me thinking about how it applies to my life, and how vital it is to understand how large the effects of my actions can be. I have personally done things that I did not think would change my life in any way, only to realise now that many of my actions caused drastic change. Even though it’s been drilled into my head since primary school that attitude is everything, I’ve never actually realised how differently something can turn out based on attitude. For instance, the process of writing this essay itself started with a negative attitude fuelled by procrastination. After changing my attitude, however, I have fully engaged with the topic I chose and I’m actually enjoying thinking about the effects of small acts or changes and writing about them.
