Be Responsible for Your Actions In Frankenstein, a gothic novel by Mary Shelley, Victor Frankenstein has created this monster that has been killing all the relatives to Victor to make him suffer like the monster has suffered. The monster blames Victor for all that he has done, but Victor only created the monster. The monster knew what he was doing when he killed all those people; therefore, the monster should be more responsible for all he has done to Victor, and should be punished for murder.
Once the monster was alive, Victor was horrified for how the monster turned out to be. The monster was supposed to be this beautiful being, but instead he was this ginormous, yellow, hideous monster. While the monster was out he ran into this boy (William Frankenstein), at first the monster did not mean any harm to the boy, but the boy kept pestering the monster the boy said he was going to go get his father who was Frankenstein. The monster knew who had created him and knew they were related, “you belong then to my enemy-to him toward whom I have sworn eternal revenge; you shall be my first victim" (Shelley 126). The monster killed the boy and says he should not be blamed because he was never cared for by his parents, but he knew exactly what he was doing because he was not going to kill William until he knew he was a Frankenstein. The monster left William and ran for a barn, where a woman (Justine Frankenstein) was asleep. The monster decided to leave a locket that he grabbed from William with her, not knowing who she was. He did not want to be blamed for the murder, “not I, but she shall suffer: the murder I have committed because I am forever robbed of all that she could give me” (Shelley 127).
