women all over the world are constantly striving everyday to look perfect. They base their decisions of what they eat, what they wear, how they style their hair, and what makeup they put solely ON images projected to them by the media. They view what the world sees as an acceptable body image through the media, and work hard to meet these expectations, so they diet and exercise which when not done appropriately could lead to a number of eating disorders. Therefore they base their advertising strategies on three theories according to Marie D.Smith. The first theory is that a woman’s physical figure is a tool which can be used to market any goods, including herself. The second theory is that a woman life goal is to find the perfect man who will finally give her life meaning. And the third theory is that the body image of a woman is formulated based on men expectations of women’s physical attraction. So women let men expectations of beauty defines their self-respect, and these expectations are the result of uncertainty experienced by both men and women of what they view as “perfect”. The VS notable success has been acquired through exploiting these expectations. In addition, every year VS has epic fashion shows to show of their models body, and their products. These shows are usually widely viewed by people all around the world, and Jamie Utt reveals that most of the camera shots during the Victoria secret show is of men in the audience staring at the models on the catwalk, which she explains present the way power is distributed in society. Men are in control of the gaze, and women are the object of that gaze. Therefore, women’s body has to meet men expectations.
