Being a decorated veteran will change another person’s perspective of someone, even without meeting him or her previously. Barnum argues that these lies are detrimental to society and the government needs to do its job to protect its symbols and awards (Barnum, 849).

America’s veterans should be honored because they have suffered through so many hardships that others could not and have not survived, and they did it for their country that they loved and still love today.
Veterans are a hearty lot. They serve and sacrifice, and having the honor of wearing the uniform is enough thanks for most of them.
“Serving those who have served” (About Disabled American Veterans 1). This is the mission statement of the DAV, or the Disabled American Veterans. The DAV helps thousands of disabled American veterans in their life after war.
Take the case of Chris Tschida, he administered first aid to his soldiers with only one hand and a shattered jaw while being attacked by an enemy. In the article, “Chris Tschida, Medal of Honor candidate,” Jeff Bacon explained that a grenade had begun the trouble, “...the grenade exploded and amputated Sgt. Tscihda’s left hand. Moments later the second grenade exploded inside the tank, severely wounding Sgt. Tschida and two of the other crew members. “ From the start, Tschida was struggling to keep his team and himself intact. It was up to him to make sure that anyone who was alive stayed alive, were out of the tank, and were taken care of. Jeff Bacon stated, “Knowing he and his fellow soldiers were not safe inside the tank, Sgt. Tschida pulled himself out of the hatch… Once both soldiers were safely out of the tank, Sgt. Tschida began administering first aid…” In the middle of a battle, Tschida was brave enough to attempt and save two of his men, when he could have easily assumed they were dead and leave them in the tank to die. Despite his role in the tank, Tschida went above and beyond, showcasing heroic qualities of compassion and leadership and was able to save two men in the process. To top it all off, Tschida was not rewarded for his actions and, as Jeff Bacon said, “has not received recognition or accolades for his heroism and steadfast leadership on May 15, 2005” and initially only told part of his story in a three sentence

“A hero is someone who has given his or her life for something bigger than oneself.” - Joseph Campbell. In Georgia in the United States one of the biggest attractions is Stone Mountain. The largest piece of exposed granite in the United states is also home to a carving on its north face. The carving depicts three confederate war heroes Stonewall Jackson, Robert E Lee and Jefferson Davis riding their horses. To some it may feel obvious that these men deserve to be honored but to others it is less clear. All three of these men deserve to be honored as heroes for their bravery and sacrifice.

...and their families, not all of the wounds are physical and they are not left behind in the cells upon return stateside. The Men who returned home from WWII were welcomed and more importantly celebrated by the entire nation as a whole, yet the efforts of those who returned home from Vietnam War did not reverberate as strongly within the country. The Vietnam POW was lightheartedly honored by our government, but the greater American populist struggled to separate their own personnel beliefs on their discontent with the war and unfairly placed the blame on those who had returned home after doing only what had been asked of them. The then President Nixon briefly spoke during his State of the Union speech saying along the lines that, they returned with honor and we can be proud of our courageous POWs for that they came home with their heads high, and not on their knees.
The Wounded Warrior Project does not have any ties to national organizations because it is one itself. “We have an obligation to empower our wounded warriors to lead happy, productive lives,” said Roger Campbell of the Wounded Warrior Project. The wounded warrior project wants to honor and empower Wounded warriors that incurred an injury on or after September 11. You are also eligible for the charity if you are a family member of a wounded warrior. They offer a combat recovery program, This program helps the warriors forget what happened to them and their friends in combat. Another program that they offer is a Physical health program which helps the warriors get back to their full condition. There are also many other programs those are just a
Everyone has a different definition of war, but the dictionary definition of war is a large scale, usually violent, conflict. Throughout every war, there are a huge amount of deaths on both sides. But who is to blame for the deaths of the soldiers that put their life on the line to protect our country. Tim O’Brien, the author of The Things They Carried, tells us the story of a platoon and the events they undergo. This includes stories about death, happiness, metamorphosis, and most importantly, blame. O’Brien talks about who you could blame for all the death associated with war, like those who made the war, and he then goes on saying, “when a man died, there had to be blame” (O’Brien 169). In the chapter, “In the Field,” Tim O’Brien, tells
