The first type of communication I observed during my placement was a form of verbal communication, I observed a face to face conversation between a member of staff and pupil about how the pupil was feeling that day, the purpose of this was to encourage a relationship between the member of staff and student this allowed the pupil to feel comfortable talking to a member of staff about their wellbeing and would allow the member of staff to take appropriate action if it was required.
The second example of verbal communication I observed was the teacher redirecting a pupil when they were of task. The pupil was continuously talking instead of completing their work, the teacher acted firstly by asking the pupil to remain quiet however the child continued

It was led by the senior members of the school this included the principal and the 2 vice principals who all contributed during the meeting. The members of staff discussed matters concerning the different year groups within the school. Other members of staff also contributed by providing different ideas that promoted a better environment for the children. The purpose of this was to negotiate and coordinate with a range of other collages to explain different ideas to improve the college this also improved the exchanging of information with other teachers.
The final form of verbal communication I noticed was a group discussion about the different senses the body has. The purpose of this was to enhance all the children’s confidences in speaking in front of people; it also enhanced their abilities to listen to what other people had to say through turn taking. The purpose of this was to outline what each child needed to bring with them to go on the trip it also explained the purpose of the trip and an itinerary of the day this allowed for the parent or guardian to be fully informed about the trip and what specifically their child would need to bring with them, so they would be fully prepared for the trip. This is beneficial for the relationship between the teacher and parent/guardian as it allows for them to know exactly what their child is going to be doing when they are out of

In every society nonverbal communication is one of the most powerful tools that a person can use to interpret the message that is being delivered. Even though verbal communication is fairly straightforward, nonverbal communication allows others to sense the true emotions of the person that is expressing them. For example even though a person may say that they are not irritated, their usage of voice may display otherwise. Nonverbal communication not only reveals hidden messages, but it also complements, substitutes, and exaggerates verbal communication.
In this assignment, we made observations of nonverbal behaviors which are utilized in everyday life as a form of communication whether we know it or not. There are many ways that individuals’ are capable of communicating without even saying anything, such as, an individual rolling their eyes can display they’re annoyed, smiling at someone can portray that the individual is happy, and so on. Nonverbal communication uses many different aspects of life to portray meaning, such as, behaviors, attributes, symbols, or objects (Seiler, Beall, & Mazer, 2015, p. 109). When partaking in this assignment, I found that utilizing nonverbal communication was much easier than verbal, but I did feel peculiar when participating in these acts. The goal for the assignment was to find a nonverbal norm that we wanted to violate, and then we needed to violate this norm three different times. Once we had violated the norm we needed to observe and analyze the reactions we received. The norms that we had the option to violate were kinesics, oculesics, haptics, etc. I just so happen to pick kinesics, which is using movements or gestures to portray nonverbal communication.
Effective communication is a key principle for developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults. By ensuring that communication is effective it provides clarity on what behaviour is expected and a clear understanding of the tasks. In providing this children and young people will feel they are able to join in and it also provides positive experiences in variety of situations. The result is children will feel more at ease within the school setting and with those around them. By listening to what a child, young person or adult has to say a sense of value and self-worth can be achieved, which forms another factor in developing positive relationships, trust.
Communication between people is done in two ways: verbally and nonverbally. Those are layman terms. The language of verbal communication is described as digital code, whereas nonverbal communication is called analog code. The main difference that you could probably presume is that verbal communication involves a language, or better yet, spoken words. Inversely, nonverbal communication integrates the use of symbols or gestures to communicate an idea or feeling.
Nonverbal communication is rich in meaning. Everyone communicates through nonverbal gestures and motions. I realized that you can decipher a lot from an individual or individuals by just paying close attention to what they do, and that words are not really necessary. Watching two people interacting, I figured that they are really close by their space communication, eye language, and body movements.
A vital aspect of interpersonal communication is the style in which one listens. While every individual possesses their own preferred method of listening in communication, it can be enlightening to analyze our own strengths and weaknesses so as to maximize effectual communication. Within the confines of four main listening style categories, I have chosen those which best describe my own personal listening style.
The initial hypothesis for this assignment was that in order for a school to succeed then a mixture of both formal and informal methods of communication are needed. The evidence collected from examining literature based around this subject appears to concur with this idea so the next step was to analyse the data gathered from the questionnaire to see whether staff opinions in school supported my original hypothesis.

Communication is the simple “process of acting on information,” but communication is a lot more complex than that. Communication comes in varies categories and can be misunderstood if the message is not clear. Communication is an important aspect of processing and transferring information in our society. The important entities needed for a successful communication includes; a sender, receiver, message and feedback. First, the sender is a person or entity that is sending information to the receiver. After receiving the message, the receiver will attempt to decode the message and prepares a proper response (feedback). Communication is an essential part of our daily interactions; it can be seen used in businesses, for pleasure, sports, education and many more activities.
My research was done at the J. Paul Leonard Library at San Francisco State University. The library consists of 5 floors and a basement level available to students. I chose this location because there is a high number of student flow and range of resources and things available to do. Each of the floors seemed to have a different vibe that students would follow. When visiting each level for a half hour each to determine which part of the library to cover I found that the first-floor research assistant resource was most interesting to observe student and librarian interactions.
I learned a lot about Human Communication in this class when I read the chapter about Nonverbal Communication. Nonverbal Communication is the process of using messages that are not words to generate meaning. I learned that it happens every day. I also learned that is very hard to read or understand depending on the person you are speaking to or with. Verbal and Nonverbal codes work in conjunction with each other. The words we speak or say are used in conjunction six different ways: to repeat, to emphasize, to complement, to contradict, to substitute, and to regulate. I never knew until reading this chapter that we do these things all most every time we communicate. These are things I took for granted until now. I now know that I will pay
