Canada is a unified nation with many different climates. Prince Rupert and Prince George are both in British Columbia, so you would think they both would have a similar climate. Wrong, Prince George and Prince Rupert have two different climates. There are six main factors making the two places different. There if the most important are being near water, elevation, and relief precipitation.
Vancouver currently maintains an image as a sort of maternal ethnic melting pot, a region rich in cultural diversity and with a municipality that is both tolerant and welcoming of various displays and traditions. However, upon closer examination of recent history, it becomes clear that the concept of the city embracing minorities with a warm liberal hug is both incorrect and a form of manipulation in itself. The articles Erasing Indigenous Indigeneity in Vancouver and The Idea of Chinatown unravel the cultural sanitization that occurred in Vancouver at the turn of the nineteenth century as means of state domination. Through careful synthesis of primary documents, the articles piece together the systematic oppression suffered by BC indigenous
The history of Canada was flooded with many influential and incredible events, particularly during World War 1 and World War 2. During the 20th century, Canada got more involved in worldwide events. It was a very important period for Canada; it was where they gained their independence and progressed as a country. After this century, Canada was considered an important and powerful country. The three main 20th century events in Canadian history are the battle of Vimy Ridge, the change of woman’s rights and the battle of Juno Beach.
Russel Ogden’s topic in the early 1990s for his MA thesis at Simon Fraser University (SFU) helped to start up his long involvement with controversy. By deciding to conduct research on assisted suicide among people living with HIV/AIDS), Ogden became involved in a contentious moral and political debate. As he continued his research, he soon encountered a second controversial issue – academic freedom. Later, in early 2015, a third area of controversy happened, this one about his status with his employer.
Vancouver is not affordable to live for the young professionals due to gentrification problems. The economy requires gentrification to develop the city. In order for a city to flow better, more people have to spend and sell. Furthermore, for people to spend or sell more, it requires more people to live. However, gentrification is pushing people away from their homes, and makes it difficult for the young professionals to move in. Therefore, a lot of young professionals and working class would move out and live outside the city.
Geoffrey Canada shares his story about growing up in an inner city neighborhood of the South Bronx in the 1950s and 1960s. Geoffrey Canada is one of four boys who live with his mother after their father left them. Geoffrey Canada talks about the struggles of growing up in the inner city and facing many challenges. As Geoffrey Canada grew up he witnessed a lot of violence which included young children getting their hands on firearms. The prevalence of firearms among children has changed the nature of violence in the United States. Violent acts have transformed from fists, sticks, and knifes to guns. Guns have undermined the street code of honor, the OGs back in the day were ruthless but not killers, this new generation has no developed courage and fighting skills but relied on guns for protection.

Have you ever wondered which events in Canadian history have been the most significant in shaping Canadian identity? Many significant events in the twentieth century left a lasting legacy for Canada. Canada would not be the culturally rich, prosperous and progressive nation that it is today, without its immigration patterns in the past. World War I (WWI) was also a significant event as it united Canada and left behind a legacy of sacrifice and national pride. Economic development during the post war period contributed to Canadian success nationally and globally. Immigration, WWI and economic development were significant events in Canadian twentieth century history. Each event brought new and powerful
Their professional outlook on how education should be has allowed me to envision a better future for students of all ages. Smaller classes, but more classes for only a certain number of students to learn, will be a must. Also, teaching students of all ages “things to know about the adult life” is a requirement. This will help glue what should be and what is to grow into a question of the past. My plan is to create a growth of love for learning for the young generation.
“New France was not merely the settlement of a few fur traders; it was also a colony of Christ in the New World, even more a colony of Christ, or of the Church, than of France.” Due to the pious believers that inhabited New France, the country was run in a particular way, separating itself from France. Although falling under the jurisdiction of “New France,” the Acadians governed separately than the rest of the country and were a separate entity within New France. Today, “the Acadians are the French speaking population of the Canadian Maritime provinces,” and these are the Acadians that were not displaced during the expulsions, under British rule. Acadia’s beginnings, with the construction of Port Royal, could have marked the colony for success, but instead, led to a troubling conclusion for the European descendents. Through failed leadership, two major expulsions, and a takeover of the Acadian peoples’ French culture, the once-thriving group has been displaced primarily to Louisiana, taking on a new identity of Cajuns.
Before a person is well recognized in society, they need to go though a lot of trouble, discrimination, and change to get there. No one judges them by their individual merit. This also applies to countries. The government of a country is always trying to get themselves in a higher position around the globe. This is done so they are well established for their good qualities. Canada is also a name in the list of such nations. Recognition was really hard for Canada to get because of the fact that it is one of the younger countries. Over the years, Canada has really shaped as a nation politically, economically, and socially. These three factors have affected the nations past, affecting the present, and will definitely affect the future. For instance, three examples of such events from each section of the course are: The Person’s Case, the Baby Boom, and lastly, The Montreal Massacre.
No community in Canada comes into conflict with criminal justice system officials more disproportionately than Aboriginals (Dickson-Gilmore, 2011, p.77). Indeed, Aboriginal Canadians are often subject to both overt and unintended discrimination from Canadian law enforcement due in large part to institutionalized reputations as chronic substance abusers who are incapable of reform (Dickson-Gilmore, 2011, p.77-78). One of the more startling contemporary examples of this is the case of Frank Paul; a Mi’kmaq Canadian who was left to die in a Vancouver alley by officers of the Vancouver Police Department after being denied refuge in a police “drunk tank”. Not surprisingly, this event garnered significant controversy and public outcry amongst Canada’s Aboriginal population who have long been subject to over-policing and persistent overrepresentation as offenders in the Canadian criminal justice system (Jiwani & Dickson-Gilmore, 2011, p.43 & 81).
By the mid 19th century, Canada was taking its first steps as a new colony in the British Empire. The Canadian government was faced with several challenges at the time, John A. MacDonald, the Prime Minister, had a plan to ensure that the Dominion of Canada's first century was a successful one. A major component of this plan was the establishment of a stable population in the West who worked the lands to create a strong agricultural economy. This agenda was not without its obstacles and conflict, but eventually, by the 1900's, the goal was essentially achieved.
Canada has demographics that are similar to the United States in many aspects, but at the same time, it has a lot of differences. The population of Canada is around 34,834,841 people ranking it number 38 in the entire world. 32.22% of the population says they have a "Canadian" origin. "English" origin comes next in line with 19.8% with "French" coming in at third at 15.5%. English and French are the two official languages in Canada. Canada is the second largest country in the world with around 10 million square kilometers of land mass (Central Intelligence Agency, 2014).
Who I am today and my story all started to form from the day I sat on a plane to the Great White North back on September 16, 2001. My family’s journey to Canada was a rough trip. We were all alone in a new world ready to start all over, with no language skills fitted for the place or a place to stay. Back then it was only; baby me at the age of two, my bigger brother David who was just turning six and my two lovable parents. However, we made it, moving to Toronto, Ontario. We all managed to find our places in the world until we got suggested to move due to legal reasons a place called Saskatchewan, they told us Saskatoon would be a good place due to it being small and friendly, so we did as we were told. Saskatoon turned out to be just as good
