The Value of Teaching Entrepreneurship
An essential function of a family is to teach important values to their children. There are many important values that usually come to mind, but entrepreneurship is often overlooked. Children who are raised with the trait of entrepreneurship and decide to apply in their lives see life from an entirely different perspective than non-entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs see opportunities all around them to make a profit and tend to make better financial decisions. Non-entrepreneurs do not take on projects with much risk involved and they do not see opportunities and everything. Entrepreneurs are more likely to have successful and rewarding careers. Therefore, entrepreneurship should be taught to children to enrich their future.

One of the biggest expenses for most children is their college education. Entrepreneur start making money earlier in life than most people and therefore has more time to save up money for big expenditures. Another advantage to becoming an entrepreneur is there is no limit to how much you can make compared to an hourly wage earner. If you have a good business product or service you can charge less than a big company with lots of overhead costs, and you can make much more than non-entrepreneurs and minimum-wage. My love for business is not something I was born with. It took over a decade of experience and exploration to discover my passion. This discovery began ten years ago when I accepted a position at The Pitney Bowes Corporation. My job was to make unsolicited phone calls to prospective businesses in order to sell our base model postage meter. All that was required was reading a script, word for word, to potential buyers. Yet, after a week of working at Pitney Bowes, I still didn't know important details about the meter, like what it looked like, and how it actually operated. My manager acted a bit surprised when I asked to see the meter, but she agreed, and I took a walk to an adjacent building where I saw first hand what I was selling. It looked completely different from what I had expected, but by viewing and touching it first hand, my ability to convey to people what I was offering improved dramatically. Once I viewed the device, I felt more confident to adlib on the sales pitch. In a couple of weeks reading my hybrid pitch led to a higher rate of sales. People were more apt to buy from someone who sounded like a person and less like a robot. My sales steadily improved and in my third month I was the number one sales person out of over 200 employees. Management implemented some of my changes in the selling process and as a result, overall sales of the entry model postage meter increased significantly.
There has been a large amount of attention paid to the subject of entrepreneurship in the last few years; mainly because most people have chosen to go from working for somebody else, to be their own bosses and work for their dreams. Nevertheless, many still wonder what is entrepreneurship and what is that sets entrepreneurs apart from other regular business owners. At first, it seems both concepts do not differ much from each other since they both start up and run businesses and assume risks to pursue opportunities; however, there are certain traits that difference them.
