I believe that Fitzgerald Public Schools should have uniforms from kindergarten all the way to twelfth. The uniforms can stop part of the bullying issue of many schools. Also, they can have kids have fewer absences, in a way. It can also help parents save money! That is why I think Fitz students should wear uniforms.
Colors are everywhere. They make up everything we see. Lots of times they are associated with feelings, emotions, characteristics, etc. In his book, The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald utilizes many colors as symbols to represent many feelings, passions, and descriptions. Each color has its own symbol, some have obvious ones like grey embodying lifelessness; however, some have more hidden meanings as black exemplifies the destruction of negativity (people usually think of black as more of a negative color in general). A color that represents Gatsby, and the Jazz Age as a whole very well, is the color silver, and it means glamorous and mysterious; distinguished, which is an excellent description of the 20s and Mr. Gatsby, himself. The color Green also represents Gatsby well because green in the novel means something of desire that has a possibility of being unattainable. Gold is a third color that personifies Gatsby, as it represents riches and extravagance in the novel, which is what Gatsby is known for. All these colors and symbols all connect to one of the themes of the book, which is the (idea) of The American Dream.
In the iconic book The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, a story about a wealthy man chasing the fantasy of being with his former love, colors expressed more than what was on the page. Over the course of events narrated by Nick Carraway, one could easily identify that colors meant more than they appeared. Colors like red indicated emotions like anger and others like yellow indicated multiple concepts, one of them being danger. In The Great Gatsby, the name “Daisy” and her character’s personality/actions can be interpreted as the colors and structure of a daisy flower to shed the dynamics of her character.
Symbolism in The Great Gatsby Symbolism is what makes a story complete. In "The Great Gatsby" Fitzgerald cleverly uses symbolism. Virtually anything in the novel can be taken as a symbol, from the weather, to the colors of clothing. characters wear. There are three main symbols used in The Great Gatsby, they are The East and West Egg, the green light at the end of Daisy's dock, and the eyes of Dr.T.J. Eckleburg.
Throughout the world, societies can become cruel and unjustified machines. In the novel, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the morality of a society is clearly revealed through the choices and consequences its characters experience. The two societies within the novel, West Egg and East Egg, create an atmosphere of mixed ideals and morals, so completely opposite of each other. Three examples will be given to support the above thesis. Firstly, Jay Gatsby, arguably the main character, is involved in a number of criminal activities. Secondly, Tom and Daisy Buchanan, are a true symbol of how the morals of their society are revealed through their actions. Finally Nick Carraway, the narrator, is truly and innocent in a society gone mad. These three points will be elaborated below.
F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote The Great Gatsby in the 1920s. It is a story told through the eyes of Nick Caraway. Nick tells the story about a tragic love triangle between Nicks cousin Daisy Buchanan and Jay Gatsby. Daisy is married to Tom Buchanan who is having an affair with a married woman named Myrtle Wilson. Fitzgerald uses many colors to describe many objects, feelings and emotions; this is called color symbolism. Color symbolism is “the use of symbols to express or represent ideas or qualities in literature, art, etc.” (Merriam-Webster.com). Some of the colors Fitzgerald uses are green, white, and cream/yellow.
Colors are an essential part of the world around us. They can convey messages, expressing that which words do not. Gentle blue tones can calm a person and bright yellows can lift the spirits. If an artist is trying to express sorrow or death he often uses blacks blues, and grays basically he uses dreary colors. Without one word, a driver approaching a red traffic light knows to stop. Colors are representative of many things. In his novel The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald uses color symbolism throughout as a major device in thematic and character development. He uses colors to symbolize the many different intangible ideas in the book. Throughout the book characters, places, and objects are given "life" by colors, especially the more prominent ones.
Many educators and even former President Bill Clinton, in his 1996 State of the Union address, have publicly supported the use of uniforms in schools. Larry Wilder Ed. D at Fresno Pacific University School of Education is one of those supporters. The reason he agrees with uniforms is because “They lead to a safer educational environment that increases Student's ability to learn, increases equality between the sexes and tolerance among ethnic and social groups.” There is much debate by educators on whether or not students in public schools should wear uniforms or have a dress code. There are many positive aspects and several negative aspects of uniforms in school. No matter what side you are on, there is a mixed bag of data when it comes to the ...
It is a great idea for schools to implement a policy on school uniforms because statistics show that students who wear uniforms make better grades. Additionally, male students are not distracted by what female students are (or aren't) wearing. Moreover, students feel a sense of fairness with one another as they are all wearing the same things. When students are at one with one another, their confidence soars, which leads to better academic performance. Student uniforms help reduce the amount of bullying, and students who would normally be bullied now have a much better disposition while at school.
...presents unity and pride within the school, which brings the students and the faculty closer together. This helps the students to feel a part of something and can lead to helping how they feel individually. It can lessen the stress of worrying about the outer appearance and support the attention of the students focus on the studies. In the long run, changing over to school uniforms will be beneficial and help the education system. If the idea was pushed forward and eventually it was accepted, it would not seem so foreign or wrong. Schools should want to build an environment where the students compete based on how well you learn and race to become the top student instead of becoming the most popular. Eliminating that one extra problem of school attire and making school uniform required clothing will become a solution in many of the schools on-going issues.
Even though the debate over school uniforms has been going on for years and is not showing any signs of cooling off anytime soon. I think it’s imperative for people take a step back and look at the bigger picture. The goal in implementing school uniforms is not to hurt children in any way by taking away from their freedom of self-expression. The goal is to provide children with a better education. School uniforms are definitely not by any means a fix it all solution for the school problems we face today. But if having a school uniform can make it easier for children to feel safe and comfortable at school, less embraced because their parents can’t afford to buy them brand name clothes. Maybe even prevent a student from committing suicide. I say why not?
Children tend to break off into "cliques," and uniforms could possibly help unite students. Finding creative ways to express their individuality through other outlets other than fashion can help children forge friendships based on their common interests. In conclusion, I feel that school uniforms are something all schools should consider implementing in their policy. All of these points show that they could be budget-friendly, help children focus, and lower the barriers children can build up because of merely what they are wearing.
...n our public schools today - they may seem like a good suggestion, but when looked at closer, all uniforms do is disguise the center of attention of the real concern that need to be successfully worked out. If security is a worry, we shouldn't be looking to a uniform to rectify the issue - if the concern is students not concentrating on school work, or getting meager grades, again, uniforms should not be seen as a way out. We have a duty to teach our children as much as we can in safe surroundings, and those are grave concerns that cannot be resolved by putting all children in the same attire. If all the children are wearing the same clothes, you still have a question with security and poor instruction - and now you have a student body that is being taught not to express their individuality. Uniforms in some cases, add to a school's concern, they do not answer them.
I don’t think children or teens should have to wear school uniforms. It deprives them of their freedom of speech. They should have the right to wear what they want when they want. The uniforms are degrading and appalling. Everything would be dull and boring if everyone looked the same and wore the same stuff! Whatever happened to our U.S. Constitution? Some kids become stressed out and could get depressed because they cannot choose what they can wear, In Our own country? The land of the free and the home of the brave and we can’t even choose what we wear? The effect would be: students becoming angry and violent, and worst case scenario, suicide.
Finally, Joyce will summarise our arguments, convincing you, without a doubt, that school uniforms MUST be enforced in all schools. Point 1 (Brian): Having school uniforms will greatly lift the feeling of teamwork and sense of school spirit and belonging, and is a benefit for students. According to SafeSchools.edublogs.org, school uniform programs make it easier for students to develop a sense of belonging at school because greater attention is given to who they are instead of what they wear. School uniforms will make students feel that they are part of school and not whatever new trend they are wearing, which is beneficial to them. Another example is from an article on www.rjmccarthy.com, which tells us that logos on school uniforms enhance spirit and pride, and creates a more “community” feel among students.
I strongly agree that school uniforms are necessary because it creates and identity, avoid the potential of bullies and insults, saving time and money and helps students to be prepared for adulthood and in working
