Edgar Allen Poe has had a mysterious, horrifying life. “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe uses a certain type of tone words to effect the overall mood in the story. “The Raven: has a suspenseful and creepy and gloomy like mood by using negative connotations. The author uses a word choice and different connotations. The storyline creates a suspenseful mood. For example, line 14 says “filled me with a fantastic terror.” This phrase indicates that the guy is a little mysterious if he thinks that a terror is fantastic. Another example is when the author uses the phrase, “long I stood there wondering, fearing.” As you can tell, fearing is the word I want to emphasize on here. Just think when you fear something, are you usually happy or scared?
