Use Of Metaphors In Love's Vocabulary

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, Kourtney K. and Scott Disick broke up due to finding out that their relationship wasn't working.This shows that being in love is difficult and has a downside at times.The authors of "Love's Vocabulary", "My Shakespeare",and Romeo and Juliet use metaphors,allusions and again metaphors to illustrate how confusing love is. In "Love's Vocabulary" Diane Ackerman uses metaphors to describe how love can be a struggle when you're in a relationship.In line 1 she says "love is the great intagible" which sums up the idea

that it is complicated and hard to grasp.Furthermore, in line 15 it says "love is the white light of emotion".Ackerman is saying love is all of the emotions combined.Lastly,in lines 46-47 Diane states love like truth, is the unassailable defense,she means that love can't be defeated.

In "My Shakespeare" Kate Tempest uses allusions to illustrate that love is in everything around us.In line 4 Kate says "he's in every father with a favorite" this reveals that love is even in people.Similarly in line 12 she states "he's in every girl who ever used her wits" this is important since it demonstrates how powerful love is,that it can be anywhere.Also Tempest wrote in line 39 "he's in us".Kate means that Shakespeare and especially love is in us and it is hard for us to fully understand and grasp.If love is in us we cannot hold it, it's intangible. In Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare uses metaphors to show how love is like many other things.In line 3 (act 2 sc 2)

Shakespeare says "it is the east and Juliet is the sun" he means that Juliet shines bright like the sun.This shows Romeo's feelings for Juliet are big based on what he said.William stated in line 15 (act 2 sc 2) "two of the fairest stars in all the heaven"he compares her eyes to stars this shows that love can take over many or all of your feelings and make you feel many emotions.Lastly he says in line 15 (act 1 sc 4) "I have a soul of lead"this demonstrates that being in love may take over your body and you could be feeling one emotion at one time and a different one atanother. All three of the authors included something about love into their writing to show us the difficulties of love.At times love may be a struggle or going very smoothly, we just never know what we are going to get when it comes to love.In the writings "Love's Vocabulary","My Shakespeare" and Romeo and Juliet they show how confusing love is by using metaphors in two writings and allusions in one.
