There have been many problems that have arose between the U.S and the Middle East, such as the first time the US launched a full invasion of the middle east in 1958. Though in the past the two countries have also had a good trade relationship, supplying more than half of the United States oil. In return for receiving billions of gallons of oil, the US supplies their allied countries with the foreign aid that they need to keep their countries protected against terrorism. The United States should be involved in the Middle East to stop the spread of terrorism, protect the supply of oil, and to provide foreign aid to their allied countries. One of the US’s main goals after getting involved in the Middle East was to stop the spread of terrorism. …show more content…
Billions of dollars is used in the middle east to keep the flow of oil consistent. “We now consume over 130 billion gallons of gasoline each year, which now comes from 7.3 billion barrels of oil, nearly 60% of which is imported”(Wolf, Chris) The US used billions of gallons of gasoline per year and depend on the gas that is imported from the Middle East which is why the need to have a good relationship with many Middle Eastern countries. “ The notion that US policy in the Middle East helps give Americans access to affordable oil...takes account of military and other costs.” (Hadar,Leon) Since the US is involved in the Middle East it allows Americans to get oil and gasoline that they can afford. If the oil is actually affordable it allows us to supply the military with supplies they need. “ The special relationship with Saudi Arabia… is keeping reliable flow of moderately priced oil.” (Barnes,Joe) The United States has a special relationship with Saudi Arabia, they send large amounts of oil to petroleum markets in the US, in return the US has to protect Saudi Arabia if they were ever to be …show more content…
The US is sending military to other countries that don't need it and they are spending billions of dollars. “ Economists have calculated that the deployment of the US military to safeguard oil supplies...costs the United States between 30 billion and 60 billion a year.” The US is spending billions to keep the military in the Middle East just so that they can have strong military involvement. They're using money from American taxpayers and using the money to support other countries instead of trying to better the US economy. Even though many people think they should not be involved in the Middle East, i think that they should be involved. “ Washington figured it was worth the price to be involved in the middle east.” The US may be spending money to have strong military involvement but it also allows them access to middle east oil and strong
Kuwait has the 3rd most oil in the Middle East. Iraq was very poor and needed money. They had just suffered a war with Iran. (Stroilov)They invaded Kuwait in hopes of getting oil to sell and get some money. America was the number 1 country buying oil from Kuwait so we put troops on Kuwait's grounds to defend them.(Stroilov) The deadline for Iraq to leave was Jan. 15, 1991, so Iraq needed to leave and America took action and forced them out of Kuwait. Although before they left they set over 600 oil wells on fire. It took over 1 year to extinguish the fires. In the Gulf War USA played a big part to defend Kuwait. (Stroilov)In 1990 USA defended Kuwait from Iraq invading them for oil to sell it. Later Iraq did get into Kuwait and Desert Storm
The U.S. has been sending troops to over-sea countries to aid the needy, and take certain measures to try to keep our country safe. We want to help the innocent lives, care for the civilians, and want them to be free. We help other countries so that maybe one day they can stand on their own! Power is everything. Power is what controls the world, and without it, you become weak. When we help other countries, that shows how powerful we are, and how strong we are to stand on our on and help! The U.S is considered to be the superpower in the world. Therefore, it should use its power to help other countries in need. Yes, we have a lot of problems with our government,
Saddam’s government collapse in the US impacted the country of Iraq by creating a democratic government where the citizens have rights. Two years earlier Afghanistan was invaded by the us because their government was believed to be an aid to Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. Later the US defeated Afghanistan’s government, the Taliban and established a democratic government like in Iraq today. We can infer that the Middle East has complicated problem going on with the region, that not even the u.s. president can figure out. (Doc C) all in all the US has impacted the region of the Middle East and build a strong relationship with it over the past
Currently, the most important factor in the rise of gas prices is the increasing cost of crude oil. Unfortunately, the United States has three percent of the world’s oil reserves. (Horsley) In 2009, the United States was third in crude oil production as well as the world’s largest petroleum consumer. (e. I. Administration) Such consumption required and still requires the United States to import petroleum/crude oil from other countries.
The United States is the Super Power in today’s world and two reasons for that are the outcome of World War II and how the President at the time, Franklin Delano Roosevelt handled conflicts at home as well as overseas. America was going through a very difficult time dealing with the Great Depression and the problem of Germany starting conflicts in Europe where nothing was being done about it. World War II was something America stayed out of for about three years, but when we finally did get involved the “scales” were now tipped in the favor of the Allies due to the American involvement. Also, as shown in World War I when the United States gets involved with conflicts dealing with issues overseas we are very successful and are adamant on becoming victorious. Much like the conflict America is dealing with today in Iraq, although many people do not agree with the war and the grounds for the war I think that our government is doing the right thing. People need to realize that our government would not do anything to hurt the nation or its people because that is just a reflection of the government and the people who run it. They want to be perceived as the super power of the world and would not do anything to hurt that image. Much like Roosevelt helped the United States to appear the Super Power, President Bush is also doing his part by continuing the war on terror and not ending it until he feels we have conquered the men behind the 9/11 attacks.
Proceeding from a simplistic perception of regional stability, Washington utilized the surrogate strategy to control the outcomes of regional interactions in the Middle East and chose Israel to play the role of regional surrogate. But Israel, in many cases, instead of maintaining regional stability on behalf of the US, served its own interests which were not always consistent with US interest in regional stability. The Israeli violations, however, were either condoned or even approved by the US administrations. These reactions comprised what this chapter addressed as a pro-Israel model of intervention.
Every year the demand for oil grows, and the amount the U.S. produces decreases while the amount of oil America imports increases. In 1994 the oil imported from OPEC members was about 1,400,000 thousand barrels in 2008 it was about 2,200,000 thousand barrels. The amount of American oil imported from non-OPEC members was roughly 1,700,000 thousand of barrels to 3,000,000 thousand barrels. According to eia.doe.gov the U.S. imported roughly between 4,000,000 and 4,500,000 thousands of barrels of oil in 2010. All this boiled down means that the U.S. imports more than half of all its oil. And at the current rate the U.S. spends roughly $13 million dollars on oil per hour. Furthering its impact on our economy the NRDC found that roughly 1/5 of our trade deficit stems from imported oil. Every day the U.S. loses $390 million to foreign oil, money that could be spent on the United States’ infrastructure, or helping to get the U.S. out of its recession. This is money that is most likely not going to be reinvested in America and will only further our deficit. Another problem outside our spending is the fact that we are importing from some highly unstable nations...
Since the oil embargo of 1977, there has been an increased awareness of our nation's energy security. As global population and energy consumption rise, the need for a stable energy supply has become a hot topic and a politically volatile issue. As our negative trade balance grows larger by the day, the United States finds itself in a rather precarious position. We are becoming more and more dependent on Middle East oil.
United States starts fighting terrorism in Afghanistan by overthrowing Taliban (Terrorist Organization). Tried to support Pakistan and Afghanistan people by bringing their Force into their countries to end war. When Osama Bin Laden was killed, it was a big victory for the US to change everything and not weaken Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda has a mission to overthrow all American troops from the land of Muslim countries. Here I recommend the United States to leave Muslim countries in their own way and do not intervene in their foreign policies and other internal decisions, if they really want to end up in a war on terror.
In the past American forces have been sent to the Middle East to battle terrorism. It has proven to be somewhat unsuccessful however. Many people are still losing lives due
Oil is very important in the United States. We need it heat, electricity, asphalt, cars, etc. In Seth Jones’ article “The Mirage of the Arab Spring” he writes that the “United States imports about 23 percent of its crude oil and related products from the Arab world”. Saudi Arabia is our second biggest foreign supplier of oil (Canada is our first). If the United States stops buying oil from the Arab world and does not provide a substitute as good or better than oil then there will probably be mass protests. I lived in a house for 18 out the 20 years of my life that was heated by oil. If there was an oil shortage during the winter me and my family would probably be turned into popsicles. Also, Americans would probably go crazy and complain
The U.S should help countries who ask for help who can not do it on their own. Other countries who ask for help just want their countries the way it was before. The U.S should also help because those countries can not deal with it on their own anymore. The Iraq military is ranked 59 in the nation , the U.S is ranked Number 1 in the nation, there for the reason they would want the United States to help them in the fighting the terrorist in because for their rank. Iraq only has 16,000,000 manpower to fight for them and there is only has 801,500 in service. Countries ask for help because the United States has a bigger military and is ranked number one in the nation.
The United States has been nicknamed the “Policemen of the World” because of how often we intercede, and many think our intervention needs to stop. There is the standard reason that discourages intervening since it isn’t “our war”, and there are more reasons specific to the Middle East. Atrocities are happening all over the world. In the Philippines, Russia, and many African nations, people are fighting and attempting to overthrow their government. If the United States is fighting in the Middle East to settle world conflicts, they aren’t succeeding because there are similar fights everywhere else in the world. Another opposition to the fighting is that our enemy’s enemy is not necessarily our friend. The United States main enemies are Iran and Syria. Some people think that their enemies on our side, and justify that for fighting. The United States also struggles to pay for this. We have a huge national debt, and financing war on the other side of the world would bring in heavy costs. There are clear drawbacks to intervening in these Middle Eastern
The U.S. has also money and military force in the middle east. Sure we get some
To prevent tragedies like 9/11 from taking its toll on the United States, terrorism needs to be thought about still to this day. One quote that proves this point is, “In 2001, the federal commission warned that terrorists could get weapons that could cause mass destruction. Congress needs to work on the integrated governmental structures to better the nation's security” (Augustine). The nation's security can help with the destruction of weapons that are dangerous to the U.S. This can cause more attacks like 9/11 and create a larger threat to the population.
