All states should require motorcyclists and passengers to wear helmets: Some states by law do need riders and passengers to wear helmets. Why would riders and passengers not want to wear helmets? Can all states reach an agreement to have the same helmet law? Why would some states not pass the law for motorcyclists to wear a helmet?
History and Status
The Department of Transportation states that motorcycle rider fatalities have risen from 1,742 in 1997 to 4,155 in 2006, an increase of 138 percent. Illinois, New Hampshire, and Iowa do not require motorcyclists to wear helmets. Alaska, Florida, Oklahoma and 24 other states require minors to wear helmets when on motorbikes. Only 20 states – among them Alabama, California, Louisiana and New York – universally mandate helmets for every person no matter the age. Helmet critics in Louisiana have frequently challenged the state’s universal helmet requirement as unconstitutional. It was repealed in 1976 and again in 1999 but was reestablished again in 2004. “All states have the power to pass the law for motorcyclists and passengers to wear helmets to help prevent severe injuries” (Universal Motorcycle Helmet Laws Reduce Costs to Society, 2006).

*19 states have the Universal Law, which requires all motorcyclists to wear a helmet
*28 states have the Partial Law, which requires some motorcyclists to wear a helmet, there are stipulations in place for this law such as horsepower and age.
*2 states have No Law, Iowa, New Hampshire and Illinois, there is no law in these states for helmet usage (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, Highway Loss Data Institute,
In Title 23, Chapter 316.211 of Florida’s constitution, the law states that “A person may not operate or ride upon a motorcycle unless the person is properly wearing protective headgear securely fastened upon his or her head which complies with Federal Motorcycle Vehicle Safety Standard 218 promulgated by the United States Department of Transportation.2” The Florida statue is actually more stringent on helmet laws than Vermont’s statue. In Florida, a person cannot operate/ride a motorcycle without helmet, while in Vermont it’s only regulated while riding a motorcycle on
By having these requirements REI would have an increase demand created by the state regulatory, as they will be able to sell quality helmets at higher
The operator she take a training If one is properly equipped and following the laws than it should be a safe ride. But with anything there is risk involved so to resolve this are we going to take cars off the road because people keep running into each other or band motorcycles because if they get hit there chance of survival is very small. No we have allowed all these items on are public roads because people are willing to take the risk every time one gets in there car and turns the key they are taking a risk not just for them but the ones that share the road with ‘‘ATVs are dangerous motorcycles are dangerous cars can be very dangerous but using the vehicle in a safe manner and proper education and training on how to maneuver the machine and using right speeds is key’’(bowman) as you can see from the reasoning above ATVs can and should be legalized on public roads. they are a more convenient way to get around and tour the state.
There are many laws about dirtbikes. One law about dirtbikes is always wear your helmet because it can save your life. There is a law that you not suppose to ride on the road because the rider can get a ticket.People need to wear safety gear when riding dirtbikes.People who follow the laws on dirtbikes will be safe if the rider of the dirt bike wears their proper gear and follow the rules.
Should we make all laws uniform across the country and eliminate state-to-state differences in policies? What can we gain from such a change and what would we lose?
Millions of people all over the United States choose motorcycles over automobiles for the thrill, speed, and high performance capabilities. On the other hand, motorcycles are not at all the safest way of transportation. Motorcycles do not provide the passenger with the outer protection that cars provide, therefore, when one crashes, the results are usually much more serious. Injuries to the head are responsible for 76% of fatalities when dealing with motorcycle crashes many of which could have been prevented had the rider been wearing a helmet. For this reason, many states have adopted the motorcycle helmet law. The law states that every passengers must wear a helmet at all times when riding on a motorcycle. This law has created a great deal of controversy. One side supports the law, believing that it protects motorcyclists from danger and saves the economy a great deal of money. The other side argues that the law is unconstitutional and it violates our right to freedom. However, statistics show overwhelming support in favor of the motorcycle helmet law. Although wearing helmets cannot prevent motorcycle crashes, they can greatly reduce the number of deaths caused by head injury as well as lowering taxes, insurance rates, and health care costs. Therefore, the helmet law should be put into effect in every state across the United States.
...y. Other state laws combine various restrictions. Tanning is an important economic industry in the United States however the states regulate tanning because of various health risks and have concluded that health is more important than economy.
Many other states have enacted law and regulation to help prevent that practice, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Texas, California just to name a few (ANA 2015)
However, in today’s times, mandatory use of a seat belt falls under various states purview. Each state implements its own laws regarding enforcement of seat belt use. Forty-nine states have adult seat belt laws as of 2009. New York was the first state to pass seat belt laws in 1984 and other states followed suit. In 1994, North Dakota became the last state to pass such a law. Currently, New Hampshire is the only state that does not mandate seat belt use for adults (Sefcik, L, 2010).
Should bicycle helmets be made mandatory for all cyclist? That is what two elementary students asked for from their city council, an ordinance enforcing the use of Bicycle Safety helmets for children under 12. So on April 25, 2002, in Richardson, Texas, the city council had decided against an ordinance requiring bicycle helmets for children under 12. Of course they had their reasons for not passing the request made by two young girls. If they would have taken a serious look at the issue, they may have viewed it differently.
As cultural identity being questioned in global screen due to the influences of transnational cinema and Diasporas in different places, this clip question further the possibilities in future transnational cinema. Through the emergence of cinema styles, all films are to be considered transnational. This essay will argue that transnational cinema could be emerging to a new level in the film industry. The clip provided with the essay explores the potential of transnational films with the context of films studied included in this subject.
Have you ever known somebody who was injured in a car accident? What do you think his attitude about seat belts was after they saved his life? If you knew that a seat belt would save your life, you would buckle up! It took years of legislation and public awareness campaigns to make seat belt use mandatory. Now a new topic regarding public safety is coming to light: people are dying or becoming seriously injured in seemingly minor accidents on bicycles when the rider's head strikes the concrete. When the head is unprotected "the brain continues to move in a forward motion while the skull stops moving" (Macyko1), causing trauma. What is needed is a way to protect the brain "by absorbing the energy from the impact, buying extra time for the brain to slow down" (Macyko1). Bicycle riders need to wear helmets to protect their brains from injury, yet unfortunately the public is simply not aware of this need and many people will continue to die or be seriously injured unless something is done. Bicycle helmets save lives and should be required by Arizona State law for riders of all ages.
1. Studies have shown that wearing a helmet can reduce your chances of head injury by 85%
Several states have a law requiring anyone on a motorcycle to wear a helmet. However, some states have laws that
It is important to follow all traffic laws to keep everyone safe on road. The amount of traffic accidents and losses drops significantly when people are obeying the rules on the road. Sometimes we forget what a big responsibility it is to drive carefully. Traffic laws are designed to protect you and other drivers on the streets. If we don’t follow them we are not only putting ourselves in risk but also other innocent people. By knowing the rules of the road, practicing good driving skills, you help play a vital role in preventing a crash. You will also be making the safety policies more effective. Many components play a major role in road safety including speed limits that are posted and making sure safety equipment is properly installed and used.
