Assignment:
In this assignment I will be creating a report about two different organisations why businesses recruit and have vacancies. I will be going into detail about what internal and external sources of recruitment is, also I will list examples of methods in recruitment and explain advantages and disadvantages of these.
Sainsbury’s
Sainsbury’s is one of the major supermarkets in the United Kingdom with a big share of the supermarket sector market owning 16.9%. Sainsbury’s was founded by John James Sainsbury in the year 1869, first shop in Drury Lane in London the company became the largest supermarket grocery shop in 1922 and embraced self-service retailing in the United Kingdom.

is the need for new staff so they hire new people every season to work for them and fill vacancies to keep the business going. Furthermore, job vacancies can follow if employees go on maternity or paternity leave, get promoted, retire, and change jobs or if people get fired. Sainsbury’s need to recruit so they can meet the standards for their customers and be able to keep up with shopper online and in the supermarket.
Sainsbury’s is one of the biggest supermarkets in the UK, having over 1,200 stores and millions of shoppers.
Burger King
Burger king (BK), is a worldwide chain fast food restaurant which sells mainly hamburgers. It started in 1953 in Florida with the name Insta-Burger King however the company ran into financial difficulties and was bought and renamed Burger King. Burger King have a total of 34,248 employees that have been recruited.
Vacancies occur in Burger King if employees when there is an increase in demand for products offered which may mean that the staff numbers have to increase to meet the demand. The demand could increase because income tax has decreased for example, meaning people have more money to spend.

Advantages
One advantage of internal methods of recruitment could be that it is cheaper to advertise internally e.g. through email or printing a poster (possibly free). Also using newsletters, posters, emails may motivate staff to work harder to try and gain a promotion. Only recruiting from inside the company means there is a smaller number of applicants making it easier to get this job and also all applicants know the business, what is expected of them and become proficient in the new job quicker.
Disadvantages
The disadvantages of internal recruitment could be that the choice of candidates could be very limited, also this person may be put under pressure by expectations on being able to adapt quickly and pick up new job quickly. Furthermore, as the workforce has the same employees there are no new skills or idea brought to the table to be learnt by others.

Advantages Due to all the different ways of advertisement for recruitment there is a wider range of applicants who can bring new ideas and skills with them that can be adopted by others. Also these new candidates are not aware of old policies in place and can bring in new culture to the organisation. Disadvantages A disadvantage of external sources of recruitment are that they are more expensive because public advertisements and interviews are necessary. Also, these processes take much more times than recruiting from inside the company as each candidate would have to go through interviewed stages, and selection may be not very effective. Opportunity cost is the cost of the next best alternative foregone when a decision is made. For example, a basketball player goes to a basketball training camp to progress and improve as a player instead of going on holiday. The holiday is the opportunity cost.

Cons of hiring internally however are that it creates new vacancy and these positions will eventually have to be filled. Another con is that employees who are not selected for a new position can be problematic or quit causing the company to lose money. In regards to skills needed to accomplish the tasks of the position new employees might not have the skills.
Recruitment and selection impacts the success of every organization. Organizations with effective recruiting and selection result in positive outcomes that affects the products and services, and the perception of the organization. Having the right people for the job will increase profits and decrease costly turnovers. Even though organizations are operating in uncertain times, focusing on staying committed, and making certain they have the best talent will ensure future success. The bottom line of the organization will be impacted by setting a clear direction that employees can get behind, and making sure the right people are hired for the right job.
Sainsbury’s is in the market of an oligopoly and few big firms run this kind of market. One of the objectives of Sainsbury’s is to gain market share. Sainsbury’s will be looking to beat competitors. To beat competitors Sainsbury’s will need to research and see what business activity they do compare to Sainsbury’s. If they research they can think of way to beat competitors in the market.
