My story exploited the themes of: the role of violence in society; the consequences of irresponsible or rash actions; and the consequences of hate which were clearly exhibited in Act 3 Scene 1. I chose to convey these themes through the modern context of social media and an online world. I made this decision because it is more relatable for teenagers and it is a common form of violence in society that can harm people physically, emotionally and mentally but is often left out on the list. I changed the gender of the characters from the play and also altered the names; however, I did carry the first letter of the characters names to have continuity. I also manipulated how Mercutio introduced to Tybalt as the “King of Cats” and used a metaphor
Romeo and Juliet is the tragic story of two young, “star-crossed” lovers from feuding families, destined for disaster. The Capulets and the Montagues have an ancient grudge on one another that has been passed down over generations. Unfortunately, Romeo and Juliet end up victims of their families’ vicious loathing. Romeo and Juliet’s story has several intertwining themes such as the aforementioned hatred between the Capulets and Montagues and the revenge Romeo strives for after his friend Mercutio’s death. Also, the love and passion between Romeo and Juliet and the loyalty of Romeo and his friends. Honour and revenge also feature frquently throughout the play including Juliet’s pressure to honour her family, and the revenge Romeo sees as his duty when Tybalt kills Mercutio.
Since I was young, I’ve always took a special interest in learning about the Holocaust. While the Holocaust represents a horrible time in history, I’ve always been interested in learning about the horrifying details because I simply couldn’t imagine how so many people complied with and remained silent as the Nazi regime took over much of Europe. So naturally, I was very excited to begin reading Maus. Similar to Persepolis, Maus is a graphic novel. I do not like reading graphic novels at all, but because the Holocaust is a topic that interests me so much, I was still able to enjoy Maus.

Writing essays was never my forte, it just never came easy to me like it would to others. Since other subjects came easy to me and I had to focus more than others on writing, I had a negative attitude toward the process as a whole. Over the past semester I have learned many things in my English class, educationally and through life lessons. This semester entering English 102 I thought of myself as a bad writer with a lot to say and no idea how to coordinate it or express it. A big reason why I took English stretch composition was to strengthen my writing skills. I feel like I have a better idea of where to put my ideas but I really need help with the technical writing and how to do research papers correctly. My concerns over the semester are not the same as they were at the beginning, they have changed. One of my concerns was that I wouldn’t know how to organize a college essay, but that concern is gone now. A new concern I have this semester is my run on sentences and the punctuation and the lack thereof.
