The First Amendment of the Constitution states that all American’s have the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion. American’s should also have the freedom to consume any food of their choosing because there is no limit to what foods a person should eat. However, there are foods that can lead to an unhealthy life. As a McDonald’s employee, I’ve seen how the food is made, prepared, and cooked… needless to say, it is not appetizing. The food served there has many calories, many grams of fat, and has high cholesterol, yet there are people that still go there every day getting a double cheese burger and a large fry knowing how harmful it can be to their bodies. Although not all cravings have to be sweets, they might be, and if people eat the sweets in moderation and still exercise, then they can live a healthy lifestyle. However, some people choose not to do that and that is their choice, they will have to live with their decisions later on in life, such as being diabetic or being obese. However, this is the lifestyle they have chosen so if they are happy with how they are regardless of their eating habits, they should not be circumscribed to the foods of their choosing. “If I give you fat, sugar and salt, and I can attract your attention and I can stimulate your affective circuitry, and I can do that for the next 25 minutes while you’re eating this stuff, you’re not thinking about anything else." (Lenny Bernstein) People can be more appealed to fatty, more sugary foods because they are sweet or they can be salty. Some people are more drawn to those types of foods because they know they’ll taste good, rather than having a carrot or an apple which might not be as appealing because of the appearance and smell of the food item. Also, there are more commercials for unhealthy snacks than there are for heathy food items and majority of the people who are unhealthy watch a lot of television so they are more drawn to those types of snacks versus healthy

Mark Bittman in his article, “Is junk food really cheaper,” argues that Americans are wasting their money on junk food or fast food restaurants when that money could be used towards a healthy home cooked meal. It is because fast food is so convenient and inexpensive to some. Even if a person wanted to eat healthy from a fast food restaurant, salads are more expensive than a burger or chicken nugget meal. How can a person with low income choose the “healthy” way when the healthy way is more expensive? Take a second to understand why fast food firms choose to sell products that are unhealthy. Their unhealthy products are in a high demand in the food market; in fact, they are simply giving us what we demand for. Most firms have started putting food labels on their menus so there is no room for excuse when making the right food choices. Nobody is forcing us to eat a whole box of Krispy crème donuts or a super-size meal at McDonalds. I believe that we are always looking for shortcuts in life and now we can anticipate there is a shortcut in what we put into our bodies. So we are consistently after things that are cheap, fast and affordable. Who better to attend to our needs than the fast food industry?

However, many have come to the conclusion that food is an addiction if it is overconsume excessively than it is necessary for an individual’s diet. Nevertheless, food addiction can create health issues that can affect an individual’s body. Even though, many individual may have such knowledge of overconsumption of food; however, many may choose to ignore the consequences that comes with food addiction. Generally, junk food is characterized as food with high fat and sugar content and minimal nutritional value (Karimi-Shahanjarini et al., 2012).
