Unforgettable Experiences in the U.S.
Problems faced by international students who come to the U.S. for the first time are not always easy to overcome. As one of them, I've found it very difficult to handle most of the problems I've encountered. I've experienced a very terrible culture shock that still makes me upset. As a student, I've found that the personal and cultural problems I experience may gravely affect my grades. The three major problems I've encountered deal with independence, homesickness, and loneliness, which really shocked me.
Since my culture is completely different from the U.S., I was very surprised and shocked by the U.S. way of doing things independently. For many years, I lived in a totally different culture; I was completely unprepared for American culture. For example, since I first came here in August 1990, I have had to do many kinds of work by myself which I had never done when I was in Indonesia, such as doing laundry, cleaning the bedroom, and getting up early in the morning. In Indonesia, I never had a hard time doing such things since everything w...
... consider some ideas of what can be done to further enhance the management of the coastal issue. Using the research action plan, I aim to acquire a sophisticated understanding of longshore drift, coastal management and implementations of coastal issues, through the research action plan. Most importantly, I will include various diagrams explaining how the process of longshore drift occurs and what implementations it has on coastal environments, accompanied by an explanation of how the issue is being managed, a detailed outline of the geographical processes involved and a discussion of the impacts of the issue and why it is important.

It was the summer of 2012 and my family was taking another trip to Six Flags Great America. Earlier that summer we went just for me to be disappointed. At the time I wasn’t 54 inches yet and couldn’t ride any of the rides that I wanted to because they were the most popular at the amusement park. But, I hit a growth spurt between trips and we planned to ride all of the big rollercoasters. The one that I was most terrified of at the time was Raging Bull, one of the tallest, fastest, and longest steel coasters in the US. As we started to wait in line for the ride I was shaking with both anticipation and fear and began to rethink my idea to ride the rollercoaster. I decided to stay in line and see what many people thought was a great coaster.
Americans should consider taking lessons from other cultures and focus on progressing in certain areas of their life, such as their parenting. Instead of devaluing family and important qualities, they should be placed with greater significance due to effects that may lead their offspring to repeat the same wrong values. I do believe independence is a quality that everyone should possess, but it should be taught to an extent that does not interfere with their other qualities. Living in America I have also adapted to their cultural values, which is being independent early on in life. Americans are perceived as placing significance on independence, which may cause children to value
Causes of depression in international students revolve around the number of friends one has, financial difficulties, language barriers, academic difficulties, perceived discrimination and cultural shock.
Most parents want what is best for their children even if that means pushing them to their limits. Every parent is different in how they raise their child, some are strict, some are carefree, and some try to act like best friends to their children. Amy Chua is a mother of two girls and she chose to raise them like a chinese parent instead of an american parent. Chua wrote an article called Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother which explains how she raised her children and how different chinese parents are from american parents.
Sandy beaches are highly dynamic environments that have many valuable environmental impacts including: providing protection to inland areas, dissipation of wave energy, are important tourist destinations, and serve as a home to a variety of marine and coastal species such as sea turtles and coral reefs (Absalonsen and Dean, 2010). Both of Florida’s coasts have many sandy beaches, and climate change has impacted many species of fauna such as sea turtles and coral reefs, as well as the shoreline position of Florida’s coastline. In order to understand the impacts of climate change on Florida’s coastline, it is important to describe Florida’s geologic and climate settings.
In the last few years, studying abroad has become an increasingly popular choice for higher education among international students (Accessibility Navigation, 2014). An average of 10% of students in universities all across the UK are international students from countries all over the world. (Accessibility Navigation, 2014). Although the experience is different for each individual student, there are many common problems that international students face. Those problems include: culture shock to varying degrees coupled with emotional issues(Bailey, 2005), Language barriers along with other communication problems (Sherry et al, 2009), and academic problems due to a change in school curriculum (Ramachandran, 2011). This essay will expand on the common problems faced by international students in the UK, offer solutions for handling the problems, and making the process of acclimating to a new environment easier for students.
The North Carolina coast is a large part of the economy and brings countless people joy each year. Unfortunately, coastal environments are constantly being reshaped by tides and waves by moving and depositing sediment. This reshaping of the coast causes houses and bridges to be undermined as longshore currents move sand away from certain areas to others. Also, channels for boats migrate and fill with sand making industry and travel challenging. Despite efforts to stabilize areas, waves constantly batter the shore erasing all attempts. Due to all the social and economical effects coastal environments have on the state of North Carolina, it is essential to find an effective method to stabilize these areas while reducing the cost.
Culturally speaking, Western parents believe that strict parenting damages the psyche of children and does not build character within then. Kaung Chang, who commented on the article states, “Being a tiger mom or dad does not always raise successful children. It has to do with the character of the child. To an outgoing and confident child, it may work; however, to an introvert child with little confidence, a tiger parent may destroy his life. My (grown-up) experience was the only model I had for raising children. Therefore, I turned out to be a very (strict) father.” In his comments, Chang elaborates that his older son was a victim of tiger parenting, causing his son to go into a deep depression, believing that his father did not love him. His younger son, however, grew up without problems, confident that his father loved him despite the stern parenting. Chang explains, “These are attitudes of two boys raised by the same parent. Therefore, I think the character of the child plays a major role in this issue.” Chang concludes that Tiger parenting is not the ideal parenting style for every child; although it may motivate some children, it may harm others.

College is an institution where students from various walks of life come to study for degree. However, for most students it’s a new chapter in their lives as they have to leave the comfort of home. Homesickness is a common issue among college students, particularly international students. Being an international student myself, I have experienced such phenomena. Ho (2010) reports that being homesick isn’t sorely about missing home itself but missing the things we love at home. Nonetheless, college students can overcome homesickness by making the most of what they have. College students can overcome homesickness by keeping in touch, making new friends and bringing home to school.
My most memorable family vacation took place two years ago. We went to Corsica, a French island situated in the south of France right next to Italy. I remembered waking up early excited to visit this new land. Used to take long flights, I was surprised to arrive to the destination after a one-hour flight. Even though the flight was short for me, it was stressful for my mom, she has never felt secured in a plane, probably due to the fact that she is afraid of height. When finally arrived at the destination, the dry and warm weather was there to welcome us. We all felt relief, and knew that this was the beginning of the summer. Excited, we had a lot of activities planned for the few weeks, me and my father could not wait to dive in the clear
Throughout someone’s life they will go to many places with their family, friends, another relatives. I have been on a few vacations that have made a lasting impact on my life. But one of the most memorable vacations I have experienced was with my cousins. I went to goa beach. Most of you probably don’t know about that beach but it is a very famous one in south India. I enjoyed myself to the fullest. The beach environment was enlightening. I would not have wanted to take this trip with anyone other than my cousins. We had a great time on the ocean sands and swimming in the ocean everyday made this vacation unforgettable.
