Poverty and Unemployment
South Africa is a country that is known for its beautiful and colourful scenery and culture. Unfortunately, South Africa is also known for a very horrible time in its history, namely Apartheid. Apartheid was a time in South African history when racial groups were separated and segregated according to race. The black people were segregated on more than other races and treated very poorly. Unfortunately, this time in history, may be the main reason why poverty and unemployment is such an issue in this country.
According to Oxford Dictionaries, poverty is the state of being extremely poor; it also defines poverty as the state of being inferior in quality or insufficient in amount. It is very clear from the afore mentioned that poverty not only means to lack in monetary value but also to be inferior and or insufficient. The misconception is that not having money brings about the inferiority complex that is found in those considered to be the lesser of society. This is the incorrect train of thought, as being inferior or seeing oneself as inferior is what prevents them from seeing a way out their poverty and that is what prevents them from getting or seeing a way( a legal way) to getting money.
According to Economics Help, Unemployment is defined as a situation where someone of working age is not able to get a job but would like to be in full time employment. The definition above of unemployment paints a grim picture, one that is unfortunately very much a reality to many youth of South Africa. Unemployment doesn’t only affect those who are lacking in education and qualifications. ...forced many corporate companies to make lernerships available to youths who have matriculant certificates but no funds for higher education. This enables the young people to earn job experience. This was developed in an attempt to prevent young people from getting doors slammed in their faces because of them not having enough work experience.
Government also has built a lot of FET collages that provide skills and training at a higher education level at very low cost, a fraction of what universities cost. They do all this and still provide bursaries for those who are unable to pay the minimal fees that they charge.
There are other initiatives by the government like the NYDA who provide bursaries for the most deserving of youths; those are youths who perform academically during their matric year and provide them with funds to carry one with their higher education.
