The Invention Of The Underwater Saw In mechanical engineering, inventions include designing machinery to make our jobs easier. The job of cutting down standing timber in lakes, was made easier from the invention of the hydraulic underwater saw, This saw has a unique make-up and function.
The Make-Up of the Machine The underwater hydraulic saw was initially developed by Carl T Burgin, from Longview Washington. This underwater saw was connected to a tugboat by means of a flexible umbilical connection. The connection included an anchor cable, hydraulic lines, control lines, a television and a underwater camera with light connections. The

The majority of the areas for the saw's need, is below dam sites and areas where timber has sunk. The underwater saw is used in combination with the tugboat, as one would not work without the other. The tugboat provides the fluid, pressure, electrical source, and a satellite component. The order in which this device is used is as follows, the tugboat anchors at the destination of standing timber the satellite camera along with the saw is lowered into the water via the hydraulic cables. The standing timber is located with the camera, the hydraulic propellers position the saw. The pair of saw blades, rotating in a horizontal plane by hydraulic motors line up at the bottom of the tree, cut off the tree and the tree is removed from the water. Mechanical engineering and designing is in everything we use, in our jobs and everyday items used in our homes. We often don't think of the work that goes into the designing of large and small tools but we do know how much easier it makes our
In the American Revolutionary War, a manned underwater craft named the American Turtle (or the "water-machine") was used against the British Navy. David Brushnell designed this ingenious machine in 1771. The submarine was a one manned, egg-shaped vessel which was propelled by hand-operated screw-like devices. It was bottom-heavy in order for it to remain upright. The operator would plant a submersible mine that could be triggered by a simple clockwork mechanism. He could paddle away after he attached the magazine of gunpowder onto the enemy ship. The operator could stay under for about thirty minutes
As the propeller rotates (fig 3-1) it forces water down and back as this is happening water must move into the void created by the spiraling blades. This creates a pressure differential across the blade- Low pressure on the back side and high pressure on the front side. This causes water to be sucked into the propeller and accelerated out the back (fig 3-3) much like a house-hold fan (fig 3-2). This action creates the thrust that drives a boat.
There is three propellers which were working by the steam, the rotation of the propellers were working by the movement.

One of the memories of my childhood I deeply cherish is that of my first visit to my father's small scale factory.Exploring the machinery which made my goal more easier and my dad sharing his experiences about the working of machines made me to grew up grossing my interest towards them. That was the time i chose to get into the field of mechanical. As a child, I was always intrigued by the working of complex mechanisms and equipment. I used to spend a lot of time trying to explore and figure out their principle. In school
There are various types of engineering that make the world the way it is. The engineering field is a huge necessity to the world. The field provides a sense of infrastructure and stability to anywhere and everywhere, and without engineers, the world would pretty much fall apart. Lots of people assume that engineering only has to deal with the environment and the external structures that make up where we live, but that is just the tip of the iceberg. Other types of engineering include the makeup of the body, and the function of the specific internal organs. This is when we land on the field of biomechanics. The purpose of biomechanics is to study the function and the movement of the human body. This engineering field is very important because
While reading Stephen Crane’s Own Story, the mysteriousness of the time period intrigued me. The only true description of the vast ocean made a broad scene allowing it to be set any day and age. However, engaging closer into the reading, unfamiliar terms, names, and equipment gave hints of the time period. As I started to understand the setting was in the 1890’s, I wanted to know how their technology affected their survival, and how the technology in 2016 would have saved them.
When these systems are implemented they allow us a new and better understanding of the world below our lakes and oceans. I have worked several hours on NMC’s research vessel the Northwestern and have worked through problems and issues that arose with the
The use of the computer has had a positive impact on manufacturing engineering in many ways. Engineering is a term applied to the profession in which a knowledge of the mathematical and natural sciences, gained by study, experience and practice, is applied to the efficient use of the materials and forces of nature. The term engineer denotes a person who has received professional training in pure and applied sciences.
When designing products, they may start to just sketch out the idea and then after a couple of sketches, he or she will start to use a Computer-Aided drafting program. After a product has been built, they will preform a quality assurance check on the product. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2015) says, “Employment of mechanical engineers is projected to grow 5 percent from 2014 to 2024, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Mechanical engineers can work in many industries and on many types of projects”. As technology advances so will the number of engineering jobs in the workplace. If you have a mechanical engineering degree you are able to work in many environments from the rail industry to the aerospace
As you now know, Mechanical Engineering has been around for a very long time. It has
In 1818, Marc Brunel, a French engineer, invented a machine that facilitated digging tunnels under different water sources,as rivers, without having mud and water facing their hard work .
