Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
The Shack is a riveting book that presents an answer to the question, “Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?” The reader learns the communications of three theological truths revealed through Young’s words: revelation, salvation, and the Trinity. The amazing story challenges the reader to understand God’s plan in its entirety.
As the novel opens, Young introduces Mackenzie Allen Phillips as the main character. The story unfolds as Mack’s daughter is abducted during a family vacation. Her body is never recovered, though the police find evidence in an old shack to prove that she was brutally murdered by an infamous serial killer. Young illustrates how his daughter’s death ultimately causes Mack to live in the shadow of his Great Sadness. He eventually receives a note from “Papa” (God) inviting him to return to the shack so they may spend time together. Mack is skeptical of the suspicious note, but eventually gains the confidence to visit the shack. Mack then experiences a weekend encounter with the Trinity in the shack. Young illustrates each member of the Godhead manifested in a bodily form. The doctrine of revelation is considered important. Revelation explains the way God chooses to reveal Himself to man. “Papa” is depicted as a large African-American woman. Jesus is a Jewish, middle-aged man from Middle-Eastern descent; the Holy Spirit, known as Sarayu, is a light and eclectic Asian woman. In addition, Mack meets Sophia, who is the personification of God’s wisdom. Revelation proves to be a central point in The Shack. Young’s goal is to deviate from the stereotypical view of God, so that the reader may focus on the message that he is trying to portray.

... learns that he should “trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thy own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5) Mack is finally able to lead the authorities to where his daughter’s body lay. Through the help of forensic evidence discovered at the scene, the authorities are able to locate and arrest the serial killer. Young truly depicts a worthy story through the pages of The Shack.
William P. Young presents a truly a heartfelt testimony to the reader in The Shack. The novel compels the average believer to deepen their relationship with God. Personally, the book has challenged me to understand the will of God on a more intimate level. I highly recommend the book to people of all ages. In my opinion, the students of Foundation Academy will prosper spiritually from the message. The Shack emphasizes the understanding of theology and wisdom within each page.
Grandma’s worship of Jesus and the “Good Lawd,” Joe Starks’ worship of himself, Mrs. Turner’s worship of white characteristics, and Janie’s worship of love, all stem from a lack of jurisdiction in the society they inhabit. All these Gods represent a need for something to believe in and work for: an ideal, which they wish to achieve, to aspire to. Each individual character is thus able to find himself or herself in the God that they worship. Grandma embodies the initial faith in the book. Her faith is in the Spirit and her allegiance is to Jesus and God.
N.T. Wright: During my first semester at Northwestern College, I was assigned the book, “The Challenge of Jesus” by N.T. Wright for one of my Biblical Studies courses. This book and every other book Tom Wright has written has dramatically impacted my Christian faith. Dr. Wright has not only defended the basic tenants of the Christian faith, but also has shown how an academically-minded pastor ought to love and care for his or her congregants. N.T. Wright was previously the Bishop of Durham and pastored some of the poorest in the United Kingdom. His pastoral ministry has helped shape his understanding of God’s kingdom-vision which he is diagramming within his magnum opus “Christian Origins and the Question of God”. This series has instructed myself and countless other pastors to be for God’s kingdom as we eagerly await Christ’s return. Additionally, I have had the privilege of meeting with N.T. Wright one-on-one on numerous occasions to discuss faith, the Church, and his research. I firmly believe Tom Wright is the greatest New Testament scholar of our generation and he is the primary reason why I feel called into ministry.
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" (Matthew 14:31) The manner in which Goodman Brown based his faith is a very good example of how not to base one’s faith. The strength of Goodman Browns faith was based on his wife’s faith, his trust in his neighbors, and his personal experiences. The strength of one’s faith is one of the most important aspects of any person, and it is especially important in the story Young Goodman Brown.
Timshel; meaning “thou mayest”, holds a significant role in East of Eden. It shows that anyone can desire to surmount vile in their hearts and create morality within them self. In the novel, Steinbeck portrays the significance of timshel through the introduction of free will, the internal conflict of Caleb, and the blessing of Adam.
In the first chapter of God Behaving Badly, David Lamb argues that God is unfairly given a bad reputation. He claims these negative perceptions are fueled by pop culture and lead many to believe the lie that the God of the Old Testament is angry, sexist, racist, violent, legalistic, rigid, and distant. These negative perceptions, in turn, affect our faith. Ultimately, Lamb seeks to demonstrate that historical context disproves the presumptuous aforementioned. In addition, he defends his position by citing patterns of descriptions that characterize God throughout the Old Testament. “Our image of God will directly affect how we either pursue or avoid God. If we believe that the God of the Old Testament is really harsh, unfair and cruel, we won’t want anything to do with him” (Lamb 22). Clearly, they way Christians choose to see God will shape their relationship with Him.

Young Goodman Brown is a short story where the main purpose is to show the social issue of religion during the Puritan time. Although the author Nathaniel Hawthorne had not being living in that time, he came from a long line of Puritans. He wrote Young Goodman Brown to show the flaws of the Puritans’ view of religion. They made God seem heartless and mean spirited, someone who just used humans for entertainment. The short story Young Goodman Brown demonstrates that people should test their faith of their religious beliefs and even people considered upright can fall short of their own religious faiths from temptations and imperfections. In addition, the story shows that there is some degree of evil nature in everyone because of the freewill to choose right or wrong.
In “Young Goodman Brown” by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the author tells a story of a man named Goodman Brow. From the beginning to the end of the story, Hawthorne uses suspense, mystery, and conflict to create an interesting journey for his protagonist, who walks through the woods at night. However, there is more in it than just the story by itself; it is full of many forms of symbolism for the character names in every part of the story. Throughout the many symbols and elements, the story of “Young Goodman Brown” suggests the idea that man always faces an internal conflict between good and evil, and when the wrong path is chosen, the effects of this can cause one to fill with doubt for the rest of his life.
