For many, being a pilot is a very glamorous job. It does sound like a high profile job, but it is by no means an easy feat. I chose to be a pilot because I wanted to be a globetrotter. I knew that being a commercial pilot is an opportunity to travel to many exciting places. To become a professional pilot, I have trained over 2000 hours. After finishing my training I applied for British airways and trained for nearly one year in the flight simulators of the Boeing 777. Finally, to my delight, the day had come when I would be flying my maiden flight for British Airways. This was the new & most sophisticated airline, the Boeing 777-300ER from London to New York. The journey would usually take 7 hours but the crew has to report for the flight preparation 2 hours prior to the flight. After all the final checks with the ground crew, we gave the green signal to invite the passengers on-board. Once we had all the passengers and their luggage loaded, we taxied to the runway. The weather was miserable in London this morning and there was an excessive amount of water on the runway. Once we a...
Tom Wolfe explains that a career in flying was like climbing one of those ancient Babylonian pyramids made up of a dizzy progression of steps and ledges, a ziggurat, a pyramid extraordinary high and steep; and the idea was to prove at every foot of the way up that pyramid that you were one of the elected and anointed ones who had the right stuff and could move hig...
T’was the eve of Tuesday, January 28, 2014, where at 8pm, I attended the performance, Boeing, Boeing at the Venice Theater Main stage with my younger sister. After reading a quick preview of this play, I decided to see this as one of my required three because I was very intrigued in twisted love stories such as this one.
On July 17, 1996, Trans World Airlines flight 800, A Boeing 747-100, exploded and crashed into the Atlantic Ocean near New York 12 minutes after its departure. All 230 people on board died.
Executive Summary A key factor in determining a project's viability is its cost of capital [WACC]. The estimation of Boeing's WACC must be consistent with the overall valuation approach and the definition of cash flows to be discounted. Note that this process is a forward-looking focus and is laden with uncertainty. It is how the assumptions are modeled that many costly mistakes can be made.
Growing up I always wanted to fly airplanes, especially after I visited the Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. After high school with an uncertain future but desiring an education, I started taking classes at a local technical college that specialized in university transfers. Specifically, a university transfer to Clemson University where I joined the ROTC program as a sophomore. After sophomore year, I earned a two-year scholarship to attend Clemson fulltime, followed by a trip to Lackland AFB for field training. As a junior, I earned a navigator training slot, a flying billet that was an answer to my prayers. Upon completion of my degree in Human Resources, I commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and assigned to casual status to await navigator training.
Boeing 787 Dreamliner was first announced to the public in January 2003 with approximated costs of five billion dollars , since the sales of the aircraft were high it was supposed to enter commercial service during 2008 but the building up of aircraft seemed more anticipated than expected , since the management decided to use composite materials as an alternative for traditional metals as composite materials are lighter , stronger , cheaper and also resistance to wild variety of chemical agents including acid rain and salt spray as these are the conditions under which metals suffer , Boeing also shared their views in development of air craft with suppliers which effected in a project significantly more anticipated than expected . More than three years later after the project exceeded the estimated budget at last 787 entered commercial service in September 2011.
Critique of “First Flight” The “First Flight” is an excellent short story that made pathos for the reader to portray in the life of an everyman who has to deal with exclusion and people’s bad choices. Gregory is an 18 year old who just wants to be sociable but everyone just shuts him out and doesn’t pay attention to him. He stops in a train station to warm up and is ridiculed on a false accusation of stealing a pilot uniform. W.D Valgardson perfectly shows both of the main themes.
The aviation industry is very difficult to enter, and the threat of new entrants is low. The first and major threat to entry is the initial capital requirements. The development period is over 5 years, with very large initial investment costs, parts costs, and wages are necessary even before the company earn revenues and sell aircrafts. The economies of scale, when the airline company has a substantial order, there are reduction in cost because of discounts on large orders. The new entrant suffers a significant cost, which is a disadvantage compared to established companies. Another risk for the new entrant, the extra supply of products for the substantial order, will decrease prices. The result, the new entrant will
In 1990 Boeing was set to introduce the 777, the world’s largest and longest haul twin-bodied jet at the time. The 777 would serve the medium and long haul markets like the expanding Asian market. Boeing’s main competitors, Airbus Industries and McDonnell Douglas, had already announced plans to produce airliners that would compete directly with the 777. Analysts believed that the intense competition between the manufacturers would serve to depress prices for the airliners. Lower prices for aircraft would mean lower earnings.

Being an airline pilot can batch most glamorous and the most exciting thing in the world for somebody who are in love with aviation. Every year millions of people apply flight schools to become a pilot, but most of them do not have any idea about flight training and what kind of abilities that they should have to become a professional pilot. When you choose a career for you and decide to do this in your whole life, some risks have to be taken. For some positions when you work for an airline, it can take up to 10 years of flying experience to even qualify. Needless to say you need to be careful about your job and commit yourself emotionally and mentally to do work you are doing or course in spite
We got into our lines, behind groups of excited families and happy little old men and women. As the line ascended up the ramp onto this enormous water vessel, pictures were taken of every group of passengers. Smile, laugh and look happy! Riiight. As a matter of fact, I was pretty anxious. I'd never been on a boat like this, and especially not for a whole week.
To sum it up the Air Force is a great career path a person can take. The Air Force is history and a lot of people want to be part of history. Do not think the Air Force is just about flying planes and jets because there is much more to it than airplanes. It teaches many skills, it is a sense of pride for some and what is better than serving the country to defend the freedom we all value!
In conclusion i find that i would like to go into the job of being a pilot because I feel like I could prosper from the job. I would love to experience the job of flying through the air without a care in the world (other than that of my passengers). I would love to experience the passion of going to new places and learning about different cultures. This is why i would choose to be a pilot.
