Dear student,
University marks an other stage of our life, it is a new environment, a new experience, and a new community. We are in a totally different environment than what we have encounter before. We go to a new campus, have new classes, have new timetables, and have new study methods. It is okay to be afraid and frustrated about the new journey, because everything sounds so distant and unfamiliar. It is a place where we get to know new people and make new relationships -- with professors, friends, classmates. We face a distrinct living habit, we start our dorm life, we belong to a college, we have our own faculty, we have to do group presentations, we have to write term papers, we join societies and many more.
But then this question

Life is about love, relationship, dreams, and many more meaningful things. "Good life is not about looking good, feeling good or having the goods. It is about being good and doing good." (Rick Warren, 2006) According to Aristotle, the purpose of life is to pursue virtue and happiness. He states that sensational happiness is not good enough for humans, and thus we look for the recognition of goodness -- to attain honor. The purpose of life is to be a happy person, who is virtuous, rational, and active. After reading the Nicomachean Ethics, you will realized that friendship also takes an important role in our life. There three kinds of friendship, based on utility, pressure, and goodness. Our goal is to have a relationship that is based on goodness. This kind of friendship needs time for development, it consists mutual respects between the two and brings out the good in both persons. It is a kind of relationship which the two person care for each other, spend time to solve problems together and would not give up each other even when facing difficulties. It is important to have a friend in our life that will stand up for you and always be on your side to hear your stories and feelings. It is more than having a friend, but more like a mental support when you need help. Getting into the university gives you the opportunity to get in touch with different kinds of people due to diversity. You will be able to know people from diverse countries, cultures, environment and thus broaden your experience. You are here to make relationships with others, get to know how to be a good friend, and learn how to deal with the sophisticated way of people. And fortunately find a friend for
Colombo explains that “Beginning college can be disconcerting experience” (Colombo, p.1). That there will be more peer pressure from your peers and an increase expectations that you have never faced during your high school days. “In the dorms you may find yourself among people whose backgrounds make them seem foreign and unapproachable” (Colombo, p.1). Colombo also states “If you commute, you may be struggling against a feeling of isolation that you’ve never faced before” (Colombo, p. 1).
Personal Development, one of the core values at Saint Leo University, plays an important role in students’ daily lives. From the moment you step foot on campus to the day you graduate, you automatically become a different person. As a first year student, you are entering a new life and not knowing what to expect. Once you are in college, it is the start of a new chapter. You will become more mature and all the obstacles that you will go through will make you a different person. In order to have a successful Undergraduate experience, it is crucial to have a balance between personal life and school. Your personal development will strengthen your academics and the community. The Campus Life Handbook states, “Saint Leo University stresses the development of every person’s mind, spirit, and body for a balanced life. All members of the Saint Leo University community must demonstrate their commitment to personal development to help strengthen the character of our community” (Saint Leo 1). Based on the Saint Leo core values, personal development, responsible stewardship, integrity, respect, and community exemplifies Medea’s character as a Hero devolving throughout the play.
Coming to college as an adult, we have many expectations and preconceptions of what college will or will not be. The expectations we have can influence our college life for the better or the worse. My experience since starting college has been an interesting one. People have misconceptions about college because they do not know what to expect. After doing some research, I have concluded that there are three major factors that are often misunderstood about college life. The first is the financial aspect of college. Second, is the relationship between the professors and students. Third is time management. These three factors play an important role in why people are afraid to go down the path to college.
While transitioning into college, socialization is very important, but students should recognize the bigger picture (hbr.org). Everything might be an essential for college, only if students are able to regulate them nicely, in order to prevent stress. Create the perfect routine to reduce the decision about what to do every day. (hbr.org). Always take find time to do you hobbies, or just something that is in your interest. This can pull minds out of the stressful day, so it have time to “replenish your energy” (hbr.org). Students should always review the progress, and whether they approached their goals (hbr.org). No one is perfect, don’t always shoot for perfection, because it will only add on stress. To handle stress, talk to someone about your problems, one of the worst way to handle stress is to hold the feelings in. There are also psychologists on campus to help students with their needs. Stress will go away, if treated correctly, if not it will lead to bigger
When I graduated from high school, I spent countless days worrying about what college will be like. I worried about everything, like saying goodbye to my family and friends, making new friends, living with a roommate, getting involved, dealing with a huge work load, and so much more. My transition into college is quite a struggle, but it is not nearly as bad as I expected it would be. After watching “I’m a College Freshman,” I realized that the difficulties I am facing are all normal.
College is hard, scary, and stressful especially with children involved. I think it is a good thing I went to college when I did otherwise, I would be stuck in the same minimum wage job that I have had for the past year. It is going to be hard and stressful but the truth is that were all scared. It is just a matter of pushing myself into getting where I want to be. My main fear with college is mainly flunking out, it is scary but, it is also achievable. I thought to myself, “Hey, if my best friend can go to college then why I can I not”. There was three things that pushed me into going to college. Those are: getting a better job so I can spoil my children, continuing my education, and to be a role model for my children.
Young offender is a person who had been convicted or cautioned about a criminal offence. They can be either male or female. The criminal justice system may deal with the younger offenders different from the adult offenders. This will differ from country to country depending on the age of responsibility in that country (Why Do Youths Commit Crime, Teenage Crime Risk Factors.). In today's society a good amount of youths get caught in youth corrections.
Most students are introduced to a whole new world when coming to college. For many, it is the first time they are on their own. College is a very different culture than high school. It takes time for most students to get acclimated to the college lifestyle. During a college student’s years at college they will partake in situations they never dealt with before. Most have never been to parties that last till about 4am with all the alcohol they can drink. A lot are also not used to having to share a bedroom with one or more persons, the heavy work load in the classrooms, and for some actually paying school tuition. The day to day college life is different for majority of first time college students.
If one were to ask an adult about their college experience it is likely than the majority will say it was the best time of their life. They had fun, enjoyed the full college experience, etc. If you ask students currently in college to describe their experience, it may still be the best time of their life but it will likely also be described as stressful and filled with a variety of pressures. The average college student will likely change his/her major at least once, seek for clubs or fraternities/sororities to fit in with, work to have some spending money or to pay their way through school, deal with being away from home for extended periods of time for the first time, and other things that will increase anxiety levels. So what is a major cause initially?
When someone is younger they look forward to the milestones in their life in which they hope to see. A couple of them will be the beginning High school and then College. Those two events are two different jumps most people will take in their life. At first the student may begin to become intimidated by the fact they will be entering college. When a students begins their high school career they will immediately begin to start looking forward to college, and the freedoms in which it brings. Once the student graduates and starts their college career they realize there are a lot of things in college that high schools have in common, as well as many differences in which they did not expect.
It’s a place where can show up whenever you want to, It’s coming out your pocket anyways. A place that you have to actually pay to attend. Textbooks begin to cost you. Homework get so much harder. Taking notes is now mandatory. In High School it was all about fun and games, but college is different. In college you have to set goals for yourself. Do everything you can to achieve those goals. You begin to realize that you’re not a little kid anymore, because the decisions you make in college affect your whole life. You are now in adulthood. It’s up to you to become what you always wished to become. To be someone in life and achieve the career that you want. So much pressure is now on you. You pay for your education so, you might as well do your best to get back all that hard work and dedication you put
When students are still in high school, college looms in the distance like an ominous cloud. Frankly, all of the students are scared about going to college. When students go to college they feel like going to the great unknown – to go to a place where they don’t know anyone. But after all college is not that bad.
I can relate to Melanie’s first impression of college being unfamiliar, scary and life changing in college fear factor. When I started my first semester it was a lot different than what I was used to going from a one on one studying experience back to a class room full of students. Melanie states, “Individuals well outside the ‘traditional’ college age range also spoke of the stress of assuming the responsibilities of college” (24). Melanie’s point is that students of all ages experience some anxiety when first attending
High school and university are two important levels of every education’s foundation in the world. The leap from going to high school for four years to university is definitely a step up. Countless students expect the natural progression from high school to university life to be the same as the one they had while at secondary school. These students are wrong to assume this and will quickly realize these present major changes. University costs more, presents more academic challenges, and offers a greater social environment than high school.
College is a collection of diverse people, new experiences, and learning how to be an adult. While it is completely different from anything I have ever done before, I feel like I have adjusted well and am getting into the swing of being a college student. The transition from high school to college is difficult and I have faced some challenges including, learning good study habits and accepting who I am as a student, time management skills and putting myself into new situations where I can meet new people. While these have been difficult for me to encounter, they have taught me valuable lessons about myself and who I can and want to be.
