People are always moving around and going to places all day, every minute of their lives. Whether it is standing up to go to the bathroom, walking to the park, or even driving to work, humans are always going to need a form of transportation. For me and for many other college students, as well as professors and staff, Uber is the best choice when it comes to car transportation. Personally, I have used Uber for a couple years now and I love it. Since Uber is used in most countries, I was able to use it in my hometown Bogota, Colombia, Miami, and now here in the wonderful city of New Orleans. I use Uber instead of a taxi because it will take me safely to my destination, it is affordable, and most of the time the wait time is short. It is surprising …show more content…
That puts me and other people at ease and makes us feel safe because we know that the driver is someone who has no criminal record, unlike taxi drivers which usually can start working without a background check. In all of the cars I have been in, absolutely all of my drivers have been very cautious and drive very well. There has not been a time where I have felt in danger of my driver’s driving skills. One thing Uber offers that other car transportations do not, is when one orders a car it tells the customer: at what time the driver arrives, what type of car it is, its license plate number, and the driver’s rating. All of these is to make sure one does not get in a stranger’s car pretending to be one’s driver. Also, the person can send the driver’s information to a family member or to a friend so they can have the information as …show more content…
One of the greatest things Uber has its the prices. The minimum fare is six dollars and if a person want to know how much the ride will cost, they have the option to put the pickup location and the dropoff location and get an estimate of how much the ride will be. If one is sharing the ride with another person or a couple of people, one can split the cost among others, therefore making it cheaper for everyone. From personal experience I can say that taxis and especially airport shuttles are very expensive. For example, when I arrived in New Orleans with my family of 4 including me, the shuttle company were charging us twenty five dollars per person, and take us from the airport to Loyola’s campus. My family and I laughed of how ridiculous their prices were and ordered an Uber which ended up charging us forty dollars. Another perk of driving with Uber is that customers do not pay the driver with cash. Everything is charged to the credit card one submitted when signing into the app. This is a great payment method because most college students do not carry cash and the one thing not only college students but everyone nowadays always have with them, is their
Have you ever felt stuck? Wherever you are, it’s the absolute last place you want to be. In the book Into the Wild, Chris McCandless feels stuck just like the average everyday person may feel. Chris finds his escape plan to the situation and feels he will free himself by going off to the wild. I agree with the author that Chris McCandless wasn’t a crazy person, a sociopath, or an outcast because he got along with many people very well, but he did seem somewhat incompetent, even though he survived for quite some time.
Jonathan Kay talks about the flashy Uber app which is kind of silly since with a little more research online, he can find other apps similar to Uber, for example, the ride-sharing app “Lyft”. Kay’s points about Uber seems to be tongue-in-cheek, meaning that it may be understood as
There are going to be sometimes where you do want too or must walk, bike, or use some other transportation to get somewhere. It’s just easier, more convenient, faster, and gives you more freedom when you do take your own car. Sometimes you must go somewhere at the last moment, where it’s easier to get in your car and drive. You get to your destination faster when you drive, it could be safer if you are the one driving, you don’t have to wait on anyone to pick you up, and you wouldn’t have to worry about where to put your bike. Although; if you choose not to drive; you wouldn’t have to worry about the traffic, you would get to see different views of your city, you would get exercise if you were walking/biking, save on gas, get to be with friends/family if you
There are a lot of positive reports about the benefits working for Uber has compared to working for a taxi company. Cab drivers have to pay exponential rates to lease cabs; Uber drivers have the freedom to drive cars they own. Many former cab drivers have switched to Uber due to the personal financial benefits (“Uber isn’t Just Good For…”). There have been some reports of inappropriate
What makes a good person good? According to WikiHow, "We should learn to define our own morals ourselves. One of the simplest ways to do so is to love others, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Try to think of others before yourself. Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.
Whether you are a CEO, Director, or a manager taking a chauffeur to your next big meeting or conference will provide many benefits. Not only will it take the stress out of having to rely on public transport, but you will not have to worry about parking or parking fares. All you will need to worry about is the importance of the day ahead. Still not convince? Here are seven reasons why business people should use a chauffeur service.
Investments in clean technology are rapidly expanding, as individuals, nations, and society are becoming increasingly aware of the damaging effects of greenhouse gases. With very few pure play electric vehicle investment opportunities, we view ElectraMeccanica as a high growth investment opportunity for investors looking to participate in the growth of electric vehicles. We model over a 400% compound annual growth rate for revenue (CAGR) going forward to 2022, with the company achieving 24% gross profit margins by 2022. The only true public pure play comparable to ElectraMeccanica is Tesla (TSLA), which has greatly rewarded shareholders with a return of over 1,000% over the past five years. We believe EllectraMeccanica cannot be compared to
If there were no drivers, there would be no profits, and if drivers found other more favourable ways to make income, Uber would be affected drastically. This is an impactful flaw in Uber’s design. Drivers will often be dissatisfied due to no real employer-employee relationship due to only contract employment, lack of communication, and extremely minimal room for drivers to advance in rank or professionally develop.
Uber Technologies Inc. continues to battle with law suits regarding several issues in violation of the antitrust law. The question “who are Uber’s drivers (Gersham, 2016)?” have yet to be answered (Gersham, 2016). In California the class action suit on Uber’s driver status is still in question, “employees or independent contractors (Gersham, 2016). While in Manhattan there is an unusual antitrust case where the federal court is trying to answer a simpler question, “what is Uber (Gersham, 2016)?” Customers complained that Uber is not a product or a service, but a conspiracy (Gersham, 2016). In 2014, Spencer Meyer and on the behalf of others affected by Uber’s price fixing algorithms is suing the defendant Travis Kalanick, who is the chief executive officer and co-founder of Uber Technologies, Inc (Spencer Meyer vs. Travis Kalanick, 2016). The allegations includes; a business plan that encourages fix prices among competitors while taking a cut of the profit, the classification of drivers as independent, and that they are only a technology
To begin, mass transit used to rule the city life, nobody could get around without using some form of public transportation. Now, there are many
The Taxi Industry in New South Wales has been one that has involved very little competition within its market, allowing prices for its services to be quite high. Now, however with the advancing technology, the rise of App-based taxi or Ride Sharing services such as Uber threaten to provide substitutes to customers increasing competition in the Taxi Industry.
Public transportation in cities was created to make it easy and cheap for people to get from point A to point B without the use of a car of their own. However, in many U.S. cities, the public transportation that is active is failing to do its job for many of the people who need it the most. Public transportation is not necessarily unavailable in a sense that it is not there, but unavailable because of poor maintenance and lack of funding. This is negatively impacting underserved communities within these cities. To narrow down the grand scale of public transportation issues, I have taken a closer look at the public transportation problems that we
Based on the journal that I have mentioned before in point one, life social of carpooling let you build friends network wider and new connections can be form from this activity. The driver can pick up their friends from house or at any transit to ease the journey and cut the cost. Furthermore, you can strengthen the bonds between family members by communicating inside the car, making jokes that can even make you closer than before. The journey also will not feel too lonely and you can enjoy the ride with your beloved ones. Hence, you can choose who you do you want to travel with, know a bit about them before travelling, and potentially make new friends with
Although public transportation may be economical, it takes a great deal longer to arrive at your destination. This is because of detour stops, and indirect road usage. Public transportation is safe and easy to use, but has disadvantages such as being late, being crowded, and the occasional smell. On the other hand, some advantages include low fees, reduced gas cost, and meeting new people. An extreme example of a worst case scenario involves being robbed at the bus station. Still, public transportation is always safer than driving yourself, as the bus is massive in proportion to cars, and provides protection against crashes. Be wary in regards to where the bus stop is located. Bus stops around busy intersections yield a large amount of people, chiefly around downtown. But do not be discouraged as these people likely ride it daily. An easy way to find quicker routes would be to ask a normal rider.
Uber has a set of clear advantages over mature incumbents. First advantage is higher value for competitive price. Value is comprised of convenience (one tap to require a ride), high service, verified cars and drivers. This is in contrast to taxis that have rude drivers, car issues (AC or payment terminal) and not reliable pickups. The second reason of Uber’s success is low marginal costs, as it does not operates as same as taxi, it does not needs a license that may cost up to 1,000,000$ per car. Also low marginal cost implies fast ability for scaling up the business model. Another reason of success is fleet variety, riders are not obliged to hail same type of sedan anymore as it happened with taxis, now they can choose what type of car they want.
