There is a saying that goes something along the lines of: It’s never easy to stay on top. After reading extensively into the rock band known as U2, I can without a doubt say that they are the exception to that rule. This band’s rise to fame and fandom has had very few bumps along the way and I’m excited to tell you more about the members, their roots, why their music is impacting the world, and what they’re doing with their fame and fortune.
Currently the band consists of four members, each one an original to the foundation of the band, but when the group was originally created there were three other participants. Larry Mullen Jr. had posted an advertisement at Mount Pleasant Comprehensive School, where he and the others went, for musicians to audition for a yet-to-be-named band (Kootnikoff, p. 3). What I found most interesting about their early years was that, while most bands that are formed by teenagers are “garage bands”, this band was established in Larry Mullen’s kitchen back in the ‘70s. Additionally, despite The Edge and Adam Clayton being born in England the band is considered Irish, though there have been various awards given to U2 that claim them to be the best British something-or-other. Ultimately, they were founded in Dublin, Ireland where they all met through their school. Today, U2 consists of Bono also known as Paul David Hewson, The Edge also known as David Howell Evans, Larry Mullen Junior, and Adam Clayton. However, the three other men that responded to Larry’s advertisement with the others were: Dik Evans, the older brother of The Edge; and two friends of Larry’s- Ivan McCormick and Peter Martin (Chatterton, p.130). William Damon uses the classical rhetorical devices of logos, pathos and ethos to convince his audience of the urgency to address the decline of honesty. He provides a balanced assessment of the need for discretion in specific circumstance, the expectation of lying that leads to the decline in honesty, and the outright accommodation to cheat without consequence. By alluding to historical attitudes regarding honesty, Damon provides a vast background to support his thesis. His essay successfully evokes a response to this current situation of decline in honesty, and creates an urgent call for action to restore the virtue of honesty. As a society, the audience would likely agree with Damon that the virtue of honesty is fundamental to the success of democracy and we would desire to espouse to the protection of this jeopardized virtue.
The Dave Matthews Band has been a musical power house for years. They have meshed together almost every type of music together to create their extremely unique sounds and attractiveness towards their music. Dave Matthews, lead singer and guitarist from South Africa has put together a band that no one will ever be able to create again. Dave picked four extremely talented and unique sounding men to join his band and together they have created some amazing music. The members of the band include Stefan Lessard on bass, Boyd Tinsley on violin, Leroi Moore on saxophone and one of the best drummers in the world, Carter Beauford. Together these men will one day leave behind a similar reputation as one of the all time greatest "jam" bands of time.

Phish is one of the most amazing and unique bands that were ever founded. The music is a cross between bluegrass, folk and rock. The fans would pretty much do anything for this band, as they follow them around the country to different cities. In resemblance to the Grateful Dead (A Jam Band during the 70’s and 80’s), Phish puts on long shows with continuous jams. Each show being completely different from any of the other shows that they have performed drives fans to continue to follow this astonishing band. The members included Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Larry Van Kriedt, Dave Evans, and Colin Burgess. The people who wanted the most success out of them were Australia’s legendary roadie Ray Arnold and his partner Alan Kissack. The two men convinced “Chequers” entertainment manager Gene Pierson to let the band play at the popular Sydney nightclub in 1973. Colin Burgess was the first member fired, and several bassists and drummers passed through the band the next year. The Young brothers decided that Evans was not a suitable frontman for the group, because they felt he was more of a glam rocker. Since the beginning of time humans have worn clothing that defines their era, race, and personality. From a caveman wearing his favorite mammoth skin to a 1980’s righteous teen wearing her all time favorite bright orange neon retro blazers. Heartbreakingly, at the school of Putnam City North High, fashion has shot down the drain as teens decide to get dress blind folded every morning. As I look around the halls of sweats and dirty over-sized t-shirts, I am bombarded with the embarrassment of having these “fashion senses” be the look of our generation. These undressed, tacky, lazy wear must come to an end before our children look back on the classes of the late 2000’s with expressions of disgust as they wonder what the heck we were thinking.

Fashion plays an important role in the lives of billions all over the world; people, as part of a status craving society, turn to “fashion capitals” of the world for ways in which to dress and carry themselves. New York, Milan, and Paris are leaders among this fierce industry that the world lusts after. Fashion can speak volumes about ones personality, or also about the condition the world is in at the time. In France, fashion changed rapidly and feverously as the times changed.
