As I sat on my couch exhausted from getting only two hours of sleep the night before, barely able to move, I was not positive that I even knew what day it was. But then suddenly, a foreign thought came to my mind. That thought was one that did not have to do with bottles, burp rags, diapers, or any other baby related issue. I had just given birth a week and a half prior to my son, and until that moment, I am not sure that I had a thought that was about myself since I checked into the hospital. I was hungry. This was not a casual "I think I could eat something" type of hungry. No, this was a "if I do not have food in the next five minutes I may become angry enough to rip the head off the annoying rattle toy that had been given to my precious newborn son" type of hungry, and I have no clue how to cook. …show more content…
My favorite smell of all the delicious food that had filled our home the week before had to be my grandmothers recipe of pot roast. She has made this recipe since I was too young to talk. When I think of it I can almost smell the powerful aroma of the herbs melding with the meat and getting stronger with each hour it spends in the slow cooker. This is what home and comfort smells like. Every woman in my family knows how to cook efficiently, except for me. To whip up a quick three course dinner is not a tall order among my grandmother, my mother, and my aunts. I decided to peel my sore body off the couch for just enough time go into the kitchen and see if there were any leftovers from all of the dishes that accumulated in our house over the last week. When I opened up my refrigerator to collect a Tupperware container of something wonderful, it hit me. There was nothing left in that fridge. Somehow, my husband and I had eaten every last bite of the
I come home from college and see my mom cooking dinner over the stove as I walk up the stairs. My tiredness sets in as I rush to my room to put down my heavy bag. My mom yells to me as I start to change my clothes.
...ould hear the creeks soothing sound, the doves calling as dusk approached. The beautiful sound of wild turkeys gobbling in the spring. All the faces of my loved ones came flooding back to me. I couldn't wait to get home!
In conclusion, reading the poem “Smell!” by William Carlos Williams made me realized that the way my nose function can be compare to many other aspects in my life. The author tells us about the good and bad odors our nose smell. I also find this poem to be really inspirational because we can all draw many different conclusions out of this
I arrived at my grandma’s house in bewilderment. The smell of flavored pork and freshly made red sauce wafted out of the windows and rose with the sound of laughter. The family was already there: all four of my aunts elbow deep into bowls of chicken, pork, sauces; my cousins and a couple of uncles with rolled up sleeves spreading
Never, ever, in my life has something tasted so good. We shared a meal that no restaurant could ever top. My father and I became even tighter. From that day on, regular meals tasted like plastic and hot dogs and no better than that. Dangerous dishes became our gourmet good eats.
I closed my eyes and sat quietly in the classroom. The slightest scent of cinnamon in the air and I was stuck. It was like turning back the hands of time to the most beautiful Autumn season I could remember. The aroma painted a picture in my mind that was so realistic every one of my senses were triggered.
I pulled into the driveway of my house and parked my car. I grabbed my coat and bag and opened the door. When I got out I instantly began to smell the sweet aroma of the long rose bushes making their way out of our fence and into the world of our driveway. I was so captivated by the fall breeze, and the beautiful smell of fall in the air that I didn't even know that I was to the door. As I snapped back into reality, I looked up and I was standing at my doorway.
delicious potato soup about to be served to us by my mother. My mom asks us if we would like, and we always say, “Yes, mother, I would like more of your scrumptious potato soup. ”My mom serves the soup on a cold winter’s night. When I devour her soup, I usually can eat another bowl. It fills my stomach making me unable to do anything for at least four hours after I get done consuming her soup. I can never wait until she makes her potato soup because that just happens to be my favorite food. Her soup reminds me of a teddy bear, warm and soft inside. It also gives me the feeling of togetherness with my family sitting around the dinner table telling each other of our days and how life is going.
What do you think of when you hear the word home? I think of comfort, love, and of coarse the sweet smell of warm apple pie. The first thing that you notice when visiting someone’s home for the first time is the smell. If the first thing you smell when you walk into someone’s home fore the first time is a dirty wet dog, the chances are you won’t want to revisit that house. That’s why the smell of your home is so important, not only for the people who visit but also for the people who live there. Each room in my home has a different and wonderful smell. It ranges from the bedroom and living room, where I like to relax, to the kitchen where all the cooking is done.
My kitchen at home is a sanctuary for me because it’s my family’s meeting place. When anyone in our house has something to announce, an important event is upcoming, or we have to discuss anything- it’s done at the kitchen table. The smell of my mom cooking something, or something she had cooked always welcomes us. One very important discussion we had was when I received my high school application. We all sat around the table and discussed what choices I should put for two hours. All that was done at the kitchen table, and it was one of the most wonderful experiences in our family. The whole time my mom had been preparing chicken noodle soup, and the smell satisfied us all- it would definitely be scrumptious. We also, had time to talk about what I wanted to do in my future- and I have never before been...
Every morning I wake up thinking that she is in the dining room drinking her coffee and watching her favorite TV shows. All of a sudden the truth starts rushing up and I come to realize that it was just a dream which was still hanging around me. In spite of my outward calmness, I felt as if there was a big hole inside me. My grandmother’s death was truly a sobering event and the most traumatic loss in my life. The commemoration of my grandmother will always be with me wherever I go and always tinting my dreams with her gentle smell of rosemary and the glittering silve...
When we arrived at my grandparents, before even opening the door, there was a smell of food like no other. As if we Walked into an Italian festival, and in many ways this was.
There is some strange aroma that starts to wake the senses. In a nearby room there is a fresh, hot pot of coffee brewing. It begins to wake the senses and the mind, however, one still would rather be at home in bed. An awful stench begins to take the place of the coffee. The smell of breakfast begins to drift down from the kitchen. It has the aroma of mom cooking scrambled eggs. One begins to ...
Finally, we arrived at our destination. I left the car leaving my parents and little brother behind and ran up the steps to my grandma’s house. I just had to be the first one to knock on her door, so I did. She opened the door for me, and I went inside parting with the bitter cold and darkness surrounding me. Inside the house I was immediately encircled with the aromas of her Christmas cooking and baking. A real fresh Christmas tree which was already beautifully adorned with old family ornaments perforated the air with more holiday aromas. I went into the kitchen with my mom, and together we helped my grandma finish preparing the Christmas Eve dinner.
My mother always comes up with ways to make vegetables taste delicious. Her meals are so mouthwatering that it is known throughout the neighborhood. Occasionally, we would have many guests over during the holidays. Partying and enjoying the nice atmosphere around the dining room, however, I 've noticed that they are all there impatiently waiting for my mother 's famous chicken fettuccine pasta dish. This is when my mother is the happiest. Cooking has always been her way of entertainment and she loves seeing others happy as they enjoy her delicious meal that she work so hard on. I 've never thought food could bring people together in such a comforting way, but it taught me that as long as you 're doing something you love then it can make others happy as well. Seeing her happy always warms my
