After listening to the two versions of “Strange Fruit”, I did hear a clear pulse from both versions. The Holiday’s version rhythm is driven by piano and saxophone. The saxophone tends to be the instrument that creates momentum in the song. When the saxophone sound is gone, Holiday sings softer (but still meaningful, and solemnly) whereas when there is the saxophone sound, Holiday raises her voice which make it sounds powerful. On the other hand, Wilson’s version is driven by drum and saxophone which sounds happier than sad or serious. There is not significant momentum in this version, since the instruments remain same throughout the song. However, there is a movement created by Wilson. She raises and lows her voice in some sentences, which

Blackberries in June is a short story, written by Ron Rash, that highlights the harsh economic standings of families in the Appalachian region on the United States. The main characters are a young newly married couple, Jamie and Matt, who have been blessed with a lake house in the mountains. The young couple are optimistic about having their whole lives in front of them but elders in the story elude to a more somber reality. In the short story, Blackberries in June, the author uses the presence, or lack thereof, of water as a symbol to represent the character's state of freedom.
Describe the differences between the soundtrack of the film in the expository phase and in the time Chuck is on the island. What are the sounds we hear in each one? What is the message the filmmakers are trying to tell us through these differences?
How many choices with consequences are there in Tangerine? Tangerine by Edward Bloor is a book with many choices followed by a consequence. However, some of the consequences have a bigger effect than others. Erik Fisher, Mr. Fisher, Mrs Fisher, and Theresa Cruz’s choices impact Paul by disabling him, ruining his self esteem, and making him new friends.

Playwright, author, and activist or maybe hardworking, dedicated, and passionate are all worthy to describe the phenomenal Lorraine Hansberry. Born on the south side of Chicago, Hansberry was introduced to racial segregation at a young age. Racially discriminated and treated unfairly, Lorraine Hansberry set out to make a difference in the world some day. Attending University of Wisconsin in Madison, it was there that Hansberry discovered her appreciation of writing. This newfound love opened up an entirely new world for Hansberry in theatrical playwright. Hansberry found that theater plays allowed her to express her feelings and thoughts about the multiple issues and events that were constantly occurring during the Civil Rights era. Lorraine Hansberry believed strongly in not only racial equality, but gender equality as well. She like many Civil Rights leaders during that time period believed that all human beings should be treated equally no matter their race, gender, or beliefs. These strong views on the African American society lead the writing of one of the most famous plays of all time, “A Raisin in the Sun”. The highlight of her success “A Raisin in the Sun” became a stepping stool for Hansberry that allowed her to send her own personal message to her readers about things that bothered her. Being an African American woman during the 1960's caused Lorraine Hansberry to be ridiculed and looked down upon, not only by whites but by her own race due to the fact that Hansberry did not follow the stereotype that was placed on African American women. Lorraine Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun" uniquely illustrates the gender stereotypes African Americans placed among themselves during the 1960's Civil Rights era.
The main character in James and the Giant Peach is James Henry Trotter. Dahl includes three elements of characterization, how a character acts, how a character look, and how others characters in the story react to this character. With how a character acts Dahl always put him as shy and quiet around his aunts but, around the insects he is witty and fun. With how a character looks he described James as a skinny young boy in the beginning of the story. With how other characters act around him he made his aunts act mean and gross to him but, the insects act nice and friendly around him. The conflict is how James had to live with his two horrible aunts because his parents got killed by a rhino. The conflict influences James by making
Strange fruit is and amazing dark poem told by Billie Holiday as very powerful song. Strange Fruit is a terrifying protest against the inhumane acts of racism. Strange Fruit was about the murders and lynching going on in the south at the time from public hangings to burnings. The south has a cruel and terrifying past that haunts the very people who still live down there and remind them that only a short time ago was no one prosecuted for killing someone of dark skin since whole towns were involved in it.
”Oranges are not the only fruit” is Jeanette Winterson first and most popular book. The book itself belongs to the genre semi-autobiographical, it has some elements of truth in but most of it are fiction. As the book goes along we get to follow the protagonist Jeannette who raised in a strict religious family where everything is either black or white. We get to follow Jeannette's journey where she confronts her own sexuality and struggles with her relationship with her mother and church. My thesis is; the novel oranges are not the only fruit is embracing thinking individually and not to follow others blindly.
Arnie Grape’s disability has a number of traits and has developmental disability. When looking at Arnie, we notice he has sensory issues, inappropriate laughs and cries, ordinary tantrums like when he yells “I want hot dogs” like a four year old, poor verbal skills; he is able to speak but has limited vocabulary, he has major social issues and does not understand morals. Arnie comes from an economically depressed and dysfunctional family where incidents happen quite often such as the death of his father and older brother, the struggle of his obese mother who is unable to perform as a normal mother, the role of his older sister is like a mother to them, his younger sister who is in a stage where she has not found her identity yet and is embarrassed of Arnie, and finally Gilbert his second brother who acts as a male head of his family after his father’s death and is the main caregiver for Arnie. Indeed, every member of the family has a role in the house that fulfills every one of them. This paper will clarify the movie, the role of the characters and their purpose.
natural swing feel and jazz colored phrasing of his singing , including his use of dynamics
The boy declared that the pears were both the evidence of theft and the proof of innocence. In William Saroyans Novel, Five Ripe Pears, the critical approach that I decided to use is psychoanalytic criticism. I do know about Five Ripe Pears as a novel because I have done a paper on this novel before but I had no idea what psychoanalytic criticism was. Saroyans device of addressing Mr.Pollard (the principal) directly and using I really dominated the novel for me. It is almost like Saroyan is trying to be back in his childhood years. The style that Saroyan chooses by using figurative language and many metaphors really helped understand this essay for me. For example, Among the leaves I watched the pears, fat and yellow and red, full of the stuff of life, from the sun, and I wanted. Another thing to consider would be the point of view of narrator in style. By doing this Saroyan really wants the reader to know what he is talking about when he says, But it was not to eat. It was not to steal. It was to know, the pear.
Dorothy M. Johnson’s Some Went West novel and The Hanging Tree short story share symbolism, characterization and the connecting themes of culture clashing and feminism through the eyes of men and women to reveal the experiences of nineteenth century women and their fates.
Her voice even with its distinctiveness, sounds like an instrument in the mix. Over the years the track has been remixed multiple times. Its fast paced drum beats are easy to sync with today’s music. The notable remix by Danny Howells become commercially popular amongst the rest.
