Recommended: How social media affects today's society

Almost everyone has been on a social media website. Whether it would be for promoting business, advertising for fundraisers, or even just to connect with others. Social media can even be used to ask a classmate what the Math homework was that day. There are many social media websites such as Facebook, Snapchat, Vine, Youtube, EHarmony, Tumblr, and the most addicting: Twitter. This site in particular has impacted people in many ways, good or bad. It has changed the way people act and live. According to “The Real History of Twitter,” Twitter was founded in 2006, and was originally created to be used by a company called Odeo. The Odeo company was going to use Twitter as a podcasting platform, but when ITunes created their own podcasting station, there was no need for another one (Carlson 1). Twitter is now used for keeping up with celebrities or checking up on sport statuses. There are also a lot of fan accounts and people make fan accounts to connect with other people in a fandom. It can sometimes be entertaining to scroll through a bunch of tweets. There are many Twitter accounts that post enjoyable tweets, such as relationship or life quotes. These quotes are relatable or funny things that someone could look at and say, “Oh I know what that is like,” or “I have done that before.” The quotes can also be quick quotes of advice that can be helpful in a certain situation. There are also hilarious memes all over Twitter. Memes are humorous pictures with sayings at the bottom that go with the picture. Twitter also keeps one updated with what is going on in the world, which includes news and sports. They can keep up with the news and weather. They can look to see where their favorite celebrity is having a meet and greet or what show they will be on
