Since 2006, Twitter has become a huge social media platform. Over a billion people use twitter on a daily basis. Everyone from celebrities to the average teenager has a twitter. Over the last decade, Twitter has been affecting the way we communicate with one another. Twitter causes people to receive information quicker, oversimplify conversations, and impacts the in person conversations that occur every day. Who would have guested that a hundred and forty characters would change we communicate?

The invention of Twitter has been such great things for those in the military, since they are able to still communication with those that they love, no matter the distance. Also we are able to make friends around the world and get to share our laughs and sadness with those we can relate to us no matter the distance. In a way it has bought the world closer to together even though we are not physically talking to that person face to face but we are able to connect on similar interest and things are on trending on twitter. For example, when the Super Bowl is on and Twitter is having a live freed going on, millions of users can tweet their thoughts on the game and who they are rooting for, along with what their favorite commercials that are playing through the Super Bowl are. Allowing millions of people to follow those people who tweeted the things the liked. Honestly, it has made people more aware of what is going on with the world and has made people want to give back to the communities and help those in needs since they see that there is a need. Another research shows that students who use Twitter in class for participation purposes feel more comfortable with being in class and asking the professor questions, since they feel like they can express their opinion and not feel judged if they do not get the right answer. Whether walking down the street, at a party, or even looking through the App Store, chances are the name "Twitter ' has stood out. Twitter is a social media site that allows it 's users to post news updates in real time, socialize with other users, or even just to view the most recent events going on in the world. It can be used as a modern-day newspaper, a text-messaging service, or even a blog. In David Carr 's article, "Why Twitter Will Endure", the main topic of discussion is how long this utility would last among us. In his article, Carr clearly and eloquently expressed his views on why Twitter will endure, through the use of his own ethos and logos.
Though relationships might seem ordinary on the outside, when taken a closer look at, they may have underlying issues. The need to embrace, understand and utilize social media has come from the top down, literally. President Obama won the election largely due to money raised from grassroots donations and by reaching people through social media. Additionally, the President signed the “Open Government Directive” which makes transparency in government a requirement on all levels. This directive has a handful of unprecedented benefits. For the first time ever, all federal agencies were required to have two way communication with citizens. Additionally, citizens could make suggestions, vote up or down others’ ideas, and have an active voice in government through Twitter or replying to blog posts which was previously seen as near impossible.

Social media has a negative impact on our society today due to bullying, job stability, and in person conversations. Bullying affects people because they could attempt to commit suicide.
