Twilight is a book written by Stephanie Meyer, originally published in 2005 and later made in to a movie in November, 2008. The story of Adam and Eve is a story from the bible. Both stories have things on common. I will discuss how Bella and Edward which are the main characters from Twilight, demonstrate good and evil. Specifically, how their relationship compares to that of Adam and Eve. There are four themes / symbols that while researching and analyzing both stories I found that are very similar in meaning for both stories. Those themes/ symbols are: “The Apple,” “Good Vs. EVIL,” “Choices,” and “Mortality.”
To begin with, I will begin with a brief summary of both stories in order to better
explain their relationship. Twilight is a story

about Bella Swan, a high school student that moves from living with her mom in hot Arizona, to living with her dad in rainy Washington State. During her first day of school she meets Edward Cullen. Edward Cullen is a vampire that comes from a family that does not drink any human blood, and whom are always trying to do good for others. And just in a blink of an eye Bella’s life is completely flipped upside down with her new dangerous immortal friend. In the other hand, according to the article by David Peach, “Adam and Eve Bible Story” Adam and Eve’s story goes like this, “God gave Adam and Eve many beautiful plants and trees to enjoy for food. But He also gave them one tree from which they were not to eat. This was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. God’s command to them was that if they ate from that tree they would die.” (Adam and Eve Bible Story) The story of Adam and Eve continues with Eve being tempted by the devil to eat from the forbidden tree.
Eve does exactly what God commanded her to not do. Now that I have explained the main things a bout both stories I will continue by discussing the main themes and symbols that are existent in both stories.
To start off, there is one symbol that is very important in both stories, that symbol is a bright red apple. Apples have been used in many stories to represent immortality, temptation, knowledge and good vs evil. In the book Twilight it is no different from any other book with an apple linked to the story. In the book the two main characters both encounter situations that make them decide between good and evil. There are several quotes from the book and after reading and watching the movie I was led to the conclusion that in the story, Edward Cullen is the “Forbidden Fruit” he symbolizes immortality, temptation, knowledge and good/evil. For example, when Edward thinks he is evil and needs to stay away from Bella he says, "It would be more…prudent for you not to be my friend," he explained. "But I'm tired of trying to stay away from you, Bella." (4.165). Edward is
being tempted himself by evil and is also being a very clear temptation to Bella. Edward is dangerous and he knows that’s, therefore his biggest temptation and the definition of good and evil for him is deciding whether or not to stay away from her. All he can do for her is put her in life threatening situations, and that’s exactly what he does. In the other hand Bella is also trying to figure out what to do, cave in to temptation and eat from the “forbidden fruit” or just forget about it and go on with her life. In the end of the story both Edward, and Bella decide to cave into temptation despite the dangers and pursue a relationship with each other. In other words, they ate from the forbidden fruit by caving into temptation exactly the same way that Adam and Eve caved in to temptation by eating from the forbidden tree. As quoted in the article by "And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, the serpent beguiled me, and I did eat." (Meg Greenfield). Both Adam and Eve knew that the had been forbidden by God to eat from one tree “the forbidden tree” and that’s when evil, and temptations start to occur. The devil tempts Eve to eat from the tree and she caves into temptation, also convincing Adam to do so. The forbidden tree is represented by apples. Apples are a symbol in both stories of immortality because in twilight Edward is a vampire (immortal), and in Adam and Eve, if they eat from the tree they will become mortal. They are also a symbol of temptation because in Twilight Edward is a temptation to Bella, and in Adam and Eve the temptation is the apple. Good and evil goes hand in hand with the forbidden fruit which is the apple, and in both stories the characters chose the evil side by caving in to temptation. It was their decision, and their choice to do so.

works of literature have tremendous amounts of similarity especially in the characters. Each character is usually unique and symbolizes the quality of a person in the real world. But in both stories, each character was alike, they represented honor, loyalty, chivalry, strength and wisdom. Each character is faced with a difficult decision as well as a journey in which they have to determine how to save their own lives. Both these pieces of literatures are exquisite and extremely interesting in their own ways.
Symbolism is very prominent over the course of this story, giving it that much more meaning. Knowles makes not only one, but several instances to religious principles and more precisely in this case, Adam and Eve. These of jealousy, greed, and selfishness are prominent throughout both stories as well is a significant fall whether it would be as monstrous as humanity or on the smaller scale of relationships. The disruption of peace and harmony are also evident in the two. In addition, it is interesting how the author finds a way to tie them all into each other.
Both narratives compare as timeless tales of reputable heroes. They both include similar plots of long journeys back home. The main characters’ flaws are arrogance which is the source of many of their troubles.
both stories shared similar ending and moral which is receiving enlightenment in first hand. "The
Writer Natalie Wilson approaches the topic of race as what appears to be “unexamined” to many in the movie Twilight. In her article “Civilized Vampires Versus Savage Werewolves: Race and Ethnicity in the Twilight Series”, she points out many interesting details that support her opinion that Twilight depicts some sort of racial differences and biases amongst the characters. The movie is based on the storyline of diverse relationships between Bella Swan and a group of werewolves and vampires, including Jacob Black and Edward Cullen. The difference between the depiction of Edward and Jacob are very contrasting as Jacob is associated with savagery while Edward on the other hand is described as wealthy, talented, and smart. Jacob and his tribe are Native American and those who pertain to the Cullen family are white; some consider this
Anyone that has watched The Vampire Diaries and Twilight have noticed similarities and differences with the main women protagonists, love, supernatural powers, and craving of blood. In the Vampire Diaries people are introduced to Elena Gilbert a young outgoing teenaged girl. She has lived in Mystic Falls her entire life, unfortunately her parents are deceased. They passed away in a car accident while their vehicle sank in a nearby river. Elena had a normal life until it was interrupted by meeting Stefan Salvator a 165 year old vampire. Unlike the Vampire Diaries, Twilight has Bella Swan. She seems like an awkward shy teenager. Bella moved to Forks, Washington to have a better father-daughter relationship with her dad. Both Bella’s parents are divorce and share custody; which is why Bella had to move to Forks. Just like Elena met Stefan, Bella meets Edward Cullen the handsome intriguing 107 year old vampire.
In the beginning of both of the pieces of literature, the main character(s) have not had the experience that will shape their values yet. Rather, as time moves forward in the stories, the

The struggles both characters face demonstrate character development and contribute to the themes of the stories. Both short stories prove to be literally effective in that they disclose the main themes at the outset of each story. Although the themes may alter over the course of the stories, they are clearly defined in their respective introductions.
These novels tell the dark love story between Bella Swan, an average, somewhat shy high school student, and Edward Cullen, a mysterious and strong vampire. Rape culture is evident throughout these four novels. For example, when Bella’s best friend Jacob kisses her against her will, she tries to fight it and then gives up “acting on instinct…I opened my eyes and didn’t fight”. Charlie, Bella’s father, asked Jacob why Bella hit him, and when Jacob said “because I kissed her”, Charlie said “good job kid”. At another point in the novels, Bella admires the bruises on her skin after having sex with
All in all the actions of Eve were neither good nor evil, but instead necessary. Through her actions she brought to light the evils of the world, and as a result man is able to appreciate that which is good. Moreover one cannot blame Eve for what she did because although as we have seen God did instill upon mankind free will, he used his threats as a means of manipulating this gift. Although there were many trees in the Garden of Eden, having the tree of knowledge of good and evil forbidden created mystery for Eve, and therefore drew her to it over the tree of life. And once both Adam and Eve choose with their own free will to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil immortality is no longer an option. Now that man is knowledgeable enough to appreciate immortality, God removes it as an choice. In a way this story shows us the flaws of both man and God. Man in that he is tempted by that which is forbidden and does not always respect the orders of those in a position of authority; And God is shown to be somewhat devious and perhaps even malicious at times.
Lilith is seen as a strong woman, who is willing to do what is best for her. Earlier, I mentioned how God reacted to Lilith in the midrash of Ben Sira, which is another difference between the two. In the midrash by Judith Plaskow, God seems more caring and understanding to Lilith. “The Lord, inclined to be sympathetic, sent his messengers after Lilith, telling her to shape up and return to Adam or face dire punishment” (2). It is almost like God understood why she was leaving and let her go. Finally, the last major difference I noticed is that Eve is mentioned in the later story but not the first. I am curious as to why because it changes the way I see Adam and Eve in the creation
...e biggest problems of humans, and people feel fear about this. For instance, before Bella had become a vampire, she wanted to become a vampire so badly in order to stay with Edward forever. When she turned a vampire after she had died due to giving birth, she had sex with Edward and said that vampires do not need to sleep because we do not feel tired at all. Today we have seen a lot of aging women and men undergo to plastic surgery in order to improve their physical looking. The authors of Twilight books and movies understand the humans’ desires, and they want us to know that the world we live today is just a temporary life. They believe that humans will have an internal life after we die, so they try to convince and encourage us that we should accept the limitations of human life and even inequality between sex roles because we will live happiness in later life.
