Memoir Research paper influenced by the book Tweak. Nic Sheff’s memoir Tweak takes the reader on a powerful and raw journey into the world of drug addiction and the road to recovery. Tweak exposes how Southern California drug culture and youthfulness contribute to addiction, while Nic is now trying to help others with addiction as he was once a person who kept relapsing while battling with addiction. The setting of the book Tweak is Southern California, the importance of this is that Southern California has a wide spread of open drug use and youth. Southern California is filled with people who like to enjoy their youth, there is a lot of common drug use there as well. For example, Nic said in the book “Laguna Beach served as both my playground and my prison. Nestled in Southern California, this sun-soaked beach town with its crystal-clear waters and upscale homes became the backdrop for my tumultuous journey into addiction”(Nic Sheff 1). After writing this memoir, Nic Sheff is living what you would call a normal life. He is also a best-selling author, screenwriter, and national speaker on addiction and mental illness. Nic Sheff has also been focusing on sobriety and recovery from his past battles with addiction. The books he writes are in the hope of helping other people who suffer from addiction. For example, an article stated “His compelling story of addiction, relapse, and recovery inspired both his father's memoir, "A Beautiful Boy," and the 2018 Felix van Groeningen film of the same name. And in July, Sheff will recount his painful addiction experiences as keynote speaker at the Summer Institute, hosted by the Center for Applied Behavioral Health Policy at Arizona State University”(His compelling story of addiction).
