What do people enjoy bout television? A riveting story? A star studded cast? Or maybe it’s just a way for them to unwind at the end of a long day. Regardless of why you choose to watch TV, everyone has their favorites. Some people prefer the avenue of reality television, for example Survivor or Big Brother. Others love the intense drama filled side of the networks with shows like Mad Men, The Walking Dead of the immensely popular Breaking Bad. Personally I like my TV to be a bit more on the cinematic side with action, drama, and a bit of mystery sprinkled in there. Lost premiered over ten years ago and with only 6 seasons that were made, I still miss it like crazy. The premise of this show is so hard to explain at first, and honestly by the end as well. But its well worth a watch. It’s about people stranded on a strange island after surviving a plane crash. But it slowly reveals itself to be so more. From savages to polar bears to secret societies and even doomsday devices This show honestly had a bit of everything woven into its extremely complicated plot. It even took on one of the greatest mysteries of all, death. Since …show more content…
Over the past 8 years a new trend and started in the entertainment industry and that is on demand and original programing via streaming services. If you haven't noticed it seams like every channel on TV now has its one original programing and streaming services like Netflix and Amazon have shows of their own that you can only get if your a subscriber. TV has also transpired space and time to become something entirely different then it was just 10 years ago. It used to be that you had to go to the Tv set to watch what you wanted to see when it aired. Now it has become some thing entirely different. Not only can you watch television wherever you want, but whenever you want. We don't go to TV anymore, But TV comes to
The panoply of programs a television provides allows a viewer to search for new interests and inspires them to do new things. I, for one, can attest to this, as my knowledge of baseball was limited as a child, until one day I decided to watch a broadcast of the San Francisco Giants; now I am a baseball superfan with friends from all over the country who share in this interest, and also a softball player who exercises every day. I did not become a couch potato from my experiences with television, but rather, a happier, healthier
Steven Johnson wrote an article for the New York Times in which he argues that back in the days, television shows use to have a very simple plot which was easy to follow without too much attention. It was just an other way to sit back and relax. However, throughout the years, viewers grew tired of this situation and demanded more complex plot lines with multiple story lines that related to recent news topics. He takes the example of the television show “24”. “24” is known for being the first show which its plot occurs in “real-time”, it is also known for not censuring the violence of its topics. It is a drastic change from what Johnson states as an example “Starsky and Hutch” where basically each episodes was only a repetition of the last one. Johnson also believes that there is a misconception of the mass culture nowadays where people think the television viewer wants dumb shows which in response makes them dumber. Johnson does not agree, for him, television shows such as “24” are “nutritional”. He also states that sm...
Seinfeld was a sitcom from NBC that was very popular during the ’90s, and is often referred as “a show about nothing.” It consisted of the life of a fictitious Jerry Seinfeld and his friends in New York City (IMDb). Seinfeld reached a Nielsen rating of 21.7 percent and number one in the United States ranking during its ninth and final season (“Appendix 3: Top-Rated Programs by Season”). It was unique in the way that it portrayed social life during the ‘90s, and this inspired shows such as Friends, Ellen, and Mad About You (Pierson 49). In Seinfeld episodes, the viewer can observe social customs, fads, social standards, and family portrayals of ‘90s semi-young adults.
Parks and Recreation is a political satire sitcom about a Parks and Recreations department in the city of Pawnee, Indiana. Many of the events portrayed in the show are based on real life ones, and the cast has moments where they perform “interviews” with invisible, non-existent cameramen (mockumentary-style). To go along with this show’s style, the focus would be Pokémon Go in 2016. To best understand the relationships between the characters at the stage they would be in this episode, the best episode to watch would be Season 5, episode 9 (Article Two).
Almost everyone who owns and drives a vehicle, sings along with their radio every once in a while, it’s what most people call ‘joyride’. Then again, celebrities are normal people too, that is why they also love singing in the car. It was indeed proven and tested in a segment called “Carpool Karaoke” in CBS’ Late Late Show with James Corden. Ever since it started, it gained millions and millions of views and is always on the top trends. It is where the host, James Corden, would invite a famous celebrity in the car and sing their own songs.
As humans living in a world where problems occur on a daily basis, we need entertainment to distract us from life's complications. One special type of entertainment, satirical material, is an exceptional way to be humorous while also bringing to light several social topics. Unfortunately, this category of humor usually involves an idea being criticized to the extent of possibly being offensive. A comedy skit done by the show "Saturday Night Live", for example, is a superb satirical piece that is seen as distasteful by some. It uses humor to not only entertain its viewers, but to also make an argument regarding current social issues, creating a prime representation of satire.
Since the beginning of humanity, we humans have longed for, and are constantly longing for, enjoyment. It is in our very nature to want what is pleasant and to reject what is harmful. Most humans in the current age find their enjoyment in a discourse called comedy. Comedy is very successful within our world because it's purely made up of things that are funny and enjoyable, while being fairly easy to comprehend. Many television shows, movies, books, and stories incorporate comedy into their content to make it more pleasurable, which ultimately makes it more successful. Also, because things that are comedic, are enjoyable, and things that are enjoyable, are successful, there is a lot of media content completely dedicated to and based on, comedy. One of the most successful tv comedy shows is called South Park. South Park is a critically acclaimed animated sitcom, produced in the U.S. and is purely based on comedy. The first episode of South Park first aired in August of 1997, and new episodes are still being produced and broadcasted today. South Park is highly successful and still on the air because of its satirical approach on cultural, political, and religious
Before television existed people had to depend on Radio stations to receive their little bit of entertainment and news. But in 1878, the invention of TV began. The first TV made didn’t look anything like the way TV’s look today. It was a mechanical camera with a large spinning disc attached to it (Kids Work). But as over the years, of course, inventions of different TV’s progressed and by the 20th century about 90 percent of our population had a TV in their household (MGHR). Television today is mainly used for people take a break from their life by relaxing and enjoying some entertainment.
As the old saying goes, “One well-timed joke can save the world”. Comedy, throughout the history of time, has served as a means of bringing people with common interests and experiences together to communicate and resonate facts or opinions, whether it's an intelligent pun diffusing a fight between two friends or a comedy skit on National TV confronting the ugly truths of today’s society. From the erudite witticisms of Roman philosophers like Horace and Juvenal, who wielded satire as a tool against the moral and social decay of their era, to today’s modern humorists who lend a voice to the voiceless, their lineage spreads across various eras, cultures, and mediums. Humorists have an indispensable role in our society as they have the liberty
Like everything else, watching television seems to have its pros and cons. So is watching television something we should all be doing? Watching television is not necessarily something that we must not do, it's just something that we must not do in excess.
One new type of show that came out was reality TV. Two of the most popular shows that fell into this category were Survivor and American Idol. Survivor was one of the reasons that reality TV got popular (“Defining Decades”). Some people who watched American Idol even claimed that the show was one of the most revolutionary shows to appear in TV history (“Defining Decades”). The 2000s was also a good year for the film industry.
Today households have not one television but multiple, allowing for separate viewing per member. The most significant change is the realization that not only people can watch television by themselves, but that they prefer to do
Although the Internet is a relatively new technology, television has been around for about fifty years. There are many problems with television though,
Television has become one of the major entertainment providers in our modern life. It sits in the living room of about almost every home in the world and it is the one thing that most people like to come home to after a long day of work or school. Not only does it give us something to laugh or get scared at but it also provides us with valuable information about what is happening around our local community and around different places in the world. But, as good as this sounds, Television may be affecting us without even realizing it. Being one of the major distractors in today 's society, it gets us attached to its content in which a lot of people spend a lot of their time watching. Being thus, watching too
