Davis wants Aza to look for his dad, paying her $100,000 to stop the search. After this, we see two couples, Davis and Aza, and Mychal and Daisy. One day, Davis tells Aza to finally read Daisy’s Star Wars fanfiction, where Aza finds out Daisy has been writing her frustrations with Aza in her fanfiction. Aza takes this as well as someone with severe OCD and anxiety could take it, spiraling out of control and ending up in the hospital after drinking hand sanitizer. After her visit, she agrees to help Davis find his father. They go into an underground art exhibition, where they find an unfinished tunnel that Pickett's company had started to work on. There, they noticed the bad smell, and anonymously told the police, which later confirmed the death of Russell Pickett. Aza faces a lot of obstacles in the book. For starters, she has to overcome her OCD, and her anxiety. She always has to fight these awful thoughts and spiraling thoughts. Her OCD makes her constantly live in fear and sometimes, not even be able to function …show more content…
However, through her investigation tactics and determination to find the truth, even when her mental issues get in the way, she is able to finally solve the case with Davis. The moral of Turtles All the Way Down is that even while we are struggling, we can push through and be successful. For example, Aza’s mental issues, and spiraling thoughts really make her struggle in everyday life. She can’t do basic things like be in contact with others. But, even with the OCD and anxiety, Aza is able to crack the case and be victorious. She is able to push past her illness and be a supporting detective along with Davis in the mystery of where his father went. This book teaches us that even if people have problems and battles, they can overcome them and still thrive. I would recommend this book to a friend because of the way it educates people about mental illness. As someone without a mental illness, I never really understand what people with them think. I can’t really grasp what they are going through or thinking. But, through the author’s impressive writing and interesting book, I can see how people with OCD, or other mental illnesses like anxiety, can actually
Marietta was raised in a small town in Kentucky. When she became an adult, she decided she needed a change. She wanted a different name and a different place to call home. She got in her Volkswagon, started driving, and on this journey she changed her name to Taylor. A stranger gave her a three year old Indian child to take care of, who she names Turtle. The two finally settle down in Tucson, where they live with a single mom who is also from a small town in Kentucky. Taylor works for a woman who hides political refugees in her home, and Taylor becomes good friends with two of them. These two refugees act as Turtle's parents and sign over custody to Taylor, so that Turtle could become her daughter legally. Taylor was very unsure about whether or not she would be a good mom, but in the end she realizes that Turtle belongs with her, and that Tucson is home.
In the novel, Turtles All The Way Down by John Green there are two types of conflict: person vs. self, and person vs. person. Aza Holmes is the main character in the novel and she experiences conflict with herself everyday. She has high levels of anxiety and outbursts of overthinking which she calls a ‘thought spiral’. In the beginning of the book, Aza introduces her thought process. She hears her stomach making noise in the cafeteria and immediately thinks it’s “Clostridium difficile, which can be fatal” this line demonstrates how the slightest changes to her body send her down a never ending spiral of nerves (Green, p. 4). The thoughts alone aren’t what consume her daily life, ever since she was little she “pressed [her] right thumbnail into the finger pad of [her] middle finger, now there is this weird callus over [her] fingerprint” (Green, p. 5).
Betrayal is being disloyal to others and even oneself, therefore betrayal can cause many emotional fallouts and baggage within relationships. In the story, The World on the Turtle's Back, betrayal is a huge factor in how the story plays out, as it is in the song The Letter by Kehlani, Genesis 4:1-16, and Matthew 26:14-16 . Three ways in which betrayal is portrayed in the story, the song, and the Bible is by the actions people take to one another, disconnections in relationships that lead to betrayal, and emotional baggage.
In the Grapes of Wrath, a novel by John Steinbeck, there are many examples of symbolism. One of the most prominent symbols found in this book is the turtle seen in chapter three. This turtle is symbolic of three things: the Joads and their journey west, Tom Joad himself, and the promise of new life. First, here’s a little background information on the turtle. This land turtle was somewhere to go. Where than is, no one knows, except perhaps John Steinbeck. To get there the turtle decides to take the perilous journey down a dusty dirt road that stretches along the quiet countryside. What could happen? A lot more than one might think. In fact, the turtle faces quite a few challenged ranging from pesky insects, to ledges, to even cars. But, the thing that makes this turtle special is that he never gives up (Pages
Yertle the Turtle was a children’s book written by Theodor Seuss Geisel, commonly known as Doctor Seuss, and first released on April 12, 1958. It is about a turtle king named Yertle who is engrossed in building a bigger and bigger throne, which would then lead to his downfall. Doctor Seuss very much dislike the idea of a Fascist state, namely the Axis powers, and was pro-democracy. This book was written post WW2 would no doubt reflect his strong feelings for the Allied cause to liberate the Fascist states. Although not necessarily fascist, Yertle the Turtle could be interpreted as a very close representation of Josef Stalin, the leader of the USSR.
Throughout the animal kingdom, adaptations take place continuously and even the smallest of changes can leave a significant impact. Examples can be seen within any plant or animal. One example would include sea turtles, specifically, the Loggerhead Turtles. These turtles are native to the Indian, Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans as well as the Mediterranean Sea (Deurmit L 2007). They thrive in either temperate or tropical climates and can live in a myriad of biomes (Deurmit L 2007). These biomes include the pelagic, reef, coastal, and brackish water (Deurmit L 2007). Loggerhead turtles are omnivores and can eat anything from insects to aquatic crustaceans, to macro algae (Deurmit L 2007). According to Deurmit (2007) Caretta caretta is classified into Animalia Kingdom, Chordata Phylum, Vertebrata Subphylum, Reptilian Class, Testudines’ Order,
Nature has been an important role in numerous stories in and past and present. The early myths and creation stories had the natural world as characters or playing an important part of the plot of the story. Strong examples of how nature has been an important part of stories are stories written for children and origin myth passed down through the generations. Just like many early creation stories of western civilizations nature plays a huge part in the origin myths of the Native Americans. Native Americans showed a strong connection to nature when they used parts of nature in their origin myths, examples can be found in "The Earth on Turtle's Back," when the animals helped save the sky chief’s wife, "When Grizzlies Walked Upright," how the first

Native American Legends are Great Spirit that are the basis of Indian theory. Many differ from how the earth was created to how humans were made. Each story shows how the worlds, traditions, and beliefs came to earth. The Earths on Turtles Back, When Grizzly Walked up right, and The Navajo Origin Legend, all show the attitudes and traditions native americans created.
The poem Mark O’Connor wrote “Turtles Hatching” at a time in his life when was closely studying nature.
“Myths can be described as sacred tales that help man understand the world and his place in it. Myths often try to respond to various eternal questions, such as the origin of the existence of evil, and also, through the archetypes that they provide, seem to give guidance to every generation,” as an Access teacher states, on enotes.com. During one’s education, grammar school through college, we fortunately get the opportunity to be exposed to countless myths and also numerous mythological creatures that we have never heard of before. Personally it was quite the challenge to relate some of these mythological tales into my own life. We don’t usually realize or understand, at that exact time of hearing or reading the creation myth, their drive
The world on a turtle's back is an Iroquois creation story and it starts out with a pregnant woman in the sky world telling her husband to go fetch her some roots from the great tree of life. The husband was wary about messing with the great tree because in the sky world it was forbidden to touch it. But the man did as his wife had asked but when he dug a hole he found that the world was empty beneath the sky tree. He immediately refused to dig around the sky tree anymore for fear of what would happen but his wife was curious and got to close to the hole and fell into the ocean. On her way down she grabbed some roots from the great tree and some friendly birds broke her fall to the ocean. When she landed in the ocean she thought that she was certainly going to perish because their was no land for her to live on but a turtle from the ocean went and fetched her a piece of earth from the bottom of the sea and she planted the roots of the sky tree in the ground on the turtle's back and walked around it everyday.

They are circumtropical species (LeBlanc et al. 2014) meaning they are distributed throughout temperate and tropical ocean regions, but most abundant species are found in the United States coastal range. Loggerheads largest nesting aggregations in the Atlantic are found along the southeastern United States coastal range where about 80% of all nesting occurs and 90% of all hatchlings are produced (Abecassis et al. 2013).
Every Thing Is Not As It Seems… I decided to write my paper on the 1st seminar we had this year, which was a Gathering Of Voices, I chose this seminar because it was one that I completely read threw, not only did I read it I could understand the meaning behind the story’s. 3 of my favorite story’s was, The Earth On a Turtles Back, When Grizzles Walked Upright and Museum Indians. When I read “The Earth On a Turtles” Back I though more into the story than just the meaning of the words, it hit me in the heart, it shows the true meaning of kindness and caring, “We must do something to help her” as she falls from the sky land above, the birds catch her and lower her down to safety but not only did they catch her they caught feelings for her.
